turkish in the hold waiting to have a go , listening to Liveatc a lot of pilots are refusing to take off as outside limits fair play , although a Cityjet just just got off

edit : well done the turks, not often you hear "nice landing" from the tower

EI1LM finally getting airborne after what seemed like about an hour holding on the taxiway ? My cousin is flying back to London on that flight and will well and truly hate that she has no patience :p

    Re: winglets in crosswinds.

The Falcon 2000LX has the same design of blended winglets as the 737NG ( by the same company, Aviation Partners ) and suffers no reduction in crosswind performance compared to the 'plain' wing.

So it's not an automatic consequence.

On the 2000 the effective increase in span with the winglets is four metres which is a useful 20%.

I was at DUB last night waiting for Mrs CML to arrive from Prague.
They made it after an extremely bumpy hold.

I'm intrigued by the BA pilot's comments.

If he didn't file an MOR, was it just a general gripe?

The effects of the wind are clearly to be seen at Dublin Airport now. The next arrival is around 30mins out and nothing has take off/landed in around 20mins. Very unusual for 4pm on a Saturday.

I've never seen it so quiet. Feet up in the tower telling war stories at this stage.
Ryanair seem to have cancelled everything.

EI139 is up and away, as is EI172.

I can't see Ryanair getting anything out of Dublin today

The speedbird is still pondering his options while the Shamrock boys are up and away.

And, EI109 has just gone up.

    Strange, surface winds aren't exceptional.

Although it's pretty breezy once you go up a little :P

Winds have been around 25-30kts gusting 40-45kts. The key is the direction, 210-220 degrees. If it was 280 degrees you can guarantee the disruption would be minimal

Exactly. It's the crosswind component is the problem.
Someone has asked for 18, it seems marginal for that runway as well.

Has anyone seen that both RJ85 arrivals seem to track south of their actual position?

I think that's due to them having old receivers. They always do that.
