And its possibly the worst food in the city.
To be fair, its better than mc donalds!
Ill probably get hammered for saying this but here goes..........
I honestly reckon their wings are the best in the city, their toblerone cheesecake is also top notch if you like cheesecake but everything else inbetween is vasty over rated and over priced!

Funny I don't like their wings any more, they used to be gorgeous but they taste very strongly of vinegar now. I was there with a group on Saturday night and we ordered a mix of stuff and shared it. It's a good way of doing it if you are out for a few drinks and don't want a big sit down meal. We had wings, nachos, pepperoni pizza, chargrilled chicken pizza, breaded mushrooms and a prawn dish. Everything was pretty good, it's not fine dining, but there is a good lively atmosphere there. I have to say the chargrilled chicken was savage! I'm not the biggest pizza fan and it's something I would never order, but it was really, really good. We also shared a few desserts and yes, the toblerone cheesecake was yummy.

went into Iyers for lunch. Amazing food and really good value. Loved everything about it, friendly staff, chef popped out for a chat on the menu and they were doing a seasonal with Brussels sprouts :D:D

Best Indian in the city imo

I'm just back from my first visit to La Gourmandises. It's lovely in there and the staff were very friendly. The food was delicious. I had the slow cooked beef and it just fell apart when my fork touched it. Yum.

The wife had a longing for Scoozi's so we went there on Friday. Packed as usual and lovely as usual. It's great to hear about new places but I love restaurants that have kept it going at a good level for years.

my mate and her man were there last week - they were so disappointed with it - food was good but they were were not full when they left - given the price..

i liked it though when i was there - i liked the experience - the presentation, food and service.. i guess fine dining is not for everyone

That's typical of "fine dining" though, you tend not to get much food at all.

Ive always found it somewhere between poor and average but it has a lot of fans so perhaps im ordering the wrong thing.

One of my favorites but yeah the dessert can have more food then the main.

The only complaint I'd have is that my beef was to come with carrots, I got about a quarter of a carrot I'd say.
The same happened when I went to Jacob's a few months ago, I was supposed to get peas with my main and I got about 10 peas with it.
Everything I got was beautiful but what do these places have against veg?

Tried Son Of A Bun last night. Really excellent. Will definitely go again.

Meant to add, Bad Boy BBQ. There was literally no one in there as I passed going in and out of SOB last night. Not good.

Yes, but it was years ago. Tasty food, but my overriding memory was that is was ginormous portions (which some people love, but it's not for me).

well i guess thats not a bad thing - i mean, you just dont have to eat it all - would be worse if it were on the contrary

Looking for a recommendation for somewhere to go on Christmas eve (do restaurants even open on Christmas eve?!). Would be looking for 3 courses and drinks. The Hughenuot would've been first port of call :( R.I.P.

A friend of mentioned that their family went to the Imperial - I think you may need to book it. Am not sure what time it closes though.

Most restaurants open on Christmas Eve. My family used always go out for lunch on that day.

Yeah, I know some people like it, but it's something I absolutely abhor. So, bad thing for me. I find waste utterly revolting, both from an ethics point of view, and how unappetising I find a mountain of food. I can picture the leftovers rotting and congealing, scraped into landfill by an underpaid dishwasher. I much prefer the contrary. Too little leaving me with some room, is far nicer than feeling disgustingly overstuffed looking at a remaining pile of gunk tepidly festering on my plate.

Finally got to try Son of a Bun last night, I thought the food was absolutely incredible. It was crazy busy even at 6pm on a wet Wednesday, there was people queuing the whole time we were there. There was a gig in the Everyman which probably accounted for some of it, but it's great to see a place doing so well.

As it was our first time there, we decided to try a bit of everything. We had the nachos and wings to start, both were excellent, all the nachos toppings tasted home made and fresh. They were excellent value at €6.50 and were definitely big enough to share. My husband had the SOB burger and I had the special which was a double burger with mushrooms, slaw and horseradish. They were both incredible, every bite just melted in the mouth. They were served just the right amount of pink. We had the cheese fries and mac & cheese as sides. The fries were lovely, the mac & cheese was only ok, but I think that’s because there was a lot going on with the burgers so it might have been cheese overload! We shared the churro to finish which were a little bit greasy, so I would probably give them a miss the next time.

Service was friendly and attentive even though our server was rushed off her feet. We never felt rushed or pressured even though there were a lot of people waiting for seats. We felt it was very good value, for two starters, two mains, two sides, a dessert, a coke and a tea, it came to €53, but we had waaaaay too much food. We could have done without one of the sides and starters and that would have brought it down to €40 for two. Absolute bargain for that quality of food.

I agree Ncmc, the food in there is awesome. If you go again and you're into that kind of thing, get a shake and have it extra thick. Best milkshake in Cork. :D

Idaho Cafe, popped in during the week while I was doing some Christmas shopping. I had forgotten how good the food in there is. Everything homemade, simple straightforward lunch (bap and a mince pie), but the bap was real quality, Fillings were great (blurbs on the wall about where ingredients are sourced), mince pie was homemade and came with a blob of fresh cream. Hit the spot!

It was jammed this time of year, great buzz in there, and the table staff are friendly while zipping around at the speed of light. Nice spot for a quick lunch or cuppa in the city.
