Anyone have a link to the original ad or where could one see it? And who is John Lewis or what is he famous for?

    Try either of these.

They turn up a very long list of ads, so it's a bit difficult to figure out which one people are referencing.

Search "John Lewis Ad Christmas 2015"
It's the very first one on both.

Kind of up-market (overpriced) UK retailer. No shops in Ireland.

He was inspector Morses sidekick. Also invented the telescope.

Only saw this tonight and I have to say I'm slightly offended by it.

I know it's all advertising and in a small way it's clever marketing by aldi.

I really feel John Lewis hit on a very important point of this time of year and Aldi have made a very poor choice in mocking it.

My sister works in a elderly care charity and their phone was off the hook when the John lewis ad aired with volunteers coming forward.

Not impressed with aldi over this one. Am I just taking it up wrongly?

I felt very uneasy watching the John Lewis Advert. Why was the man banished to the moon?
Who thought it a good idea to have an old man spying on a young girl?
Why use a theme tune that is associated with a dysfunctional family?

I Love the Aldi one, however. It pokes fun at their rivals. Brilliant.

Because of the OP's oversensitiveness, I have now discovered that Aldi sell telescopes.

    Sweet.

... not that I'm going to buy one, but it's still good to know.

Is the point that he was able to get himself a mail order bride, or that the little girl has sent him a hooker for Christmas day ?

Liked that one for about two years but sick of it now and have to turn the radio off when it's on. [spoiler, he bought the lads a trainset, bet they were impressed. not.]
All sentimental ads should have at least one decent spoof made of them.
In fact all sentimental anything should have a decent spoof made of them.

Feck it... everything that takes itself seriously needs to be spoofed in the interest of a well balanced society.

(Except of course, Muhammad, blessings be upon him.)

Anyone else find this concept hilarious and have massive difficulty believing it?

This ad is getting the john lewis one in the media eye again, so she might get more volunteers.

If he was cracking one off while using it to scope out women getting changed I still would not be offended. -must put one on my santa list.
