The retail on your parents Octavia back then was a lot more that €20.5k. Was the car a demo or pre-registeted? Skoda prices have gone up but alright but not to that extent.

Also a 21k Fabia is not a boggo one either.

The father has the same car, I can't remember the sum but I'd know it wasn't that. I'd reckon close to 25k.
    I'll chat him and see!

Ye the fabia wasn't boggo but wasn't top of the range either. Ye now you mentioned it I forgot the parents was a demo but that only accounted for 1.5K euro off or so they said as it wasn't a used demo it was preregistered but never driven or used there was 2km on the clock when they collected it the garage only got in the colour they wanted that day so it wasn't used by anyone or test drove hence why I sometimes forget it was a demo.

Still its they've definitely gone up a good few thousand which I don't get as they were always the budget brand in the VW group which now seems to be seats position. Tbh the only skoda that represents good value for money is the octavia VRS and maybe some models of the superb too but when you spec them way up they are no longer good value for money.

Maybe they are not expensive but just they don't represent the value for money they once did. I suppose it seems they are trying to loose that image though.

DSG? AWD? What engine is it? ?

Ah top of the range spec standard 1.6tdi engine and manual not AWD a big engine and DSG wouldn't of worked as I was only learning to drive they do regret not getting the 2.0tdi

Well thats straight up what they paid but theres was demo and they shopped around and that dealer was the cheapest by a bit I suppose.

    @KKV RE: Glowplug error.

Don't bother trying to change them yet. They are an absolute bastard in that engine and the plugs are knowing for snapping in the head when trying to take them out.

If the car is starting fine then leave them or it'll be a real job !

Yeah the 407 I had before was the same. I didn't DIY it but the mechanics I gave it to said it was a pain in the hole alright. Apparently you need to keep the car running to let everything warm up before trying to remove them, as the heat helps them come out a tad easier.

But you're right. It is starting with no bother at all (albeit, I haven't even seen the glowplug light in the car since I bought it. So dunno if that's a sign of something).

I will probably do it in jan/feb or if it starts giving hassle before then, but it's definitely on the long finger, anyway.

But at the same time - its not really comparable looking at an effectively used car that realistically had 4-5k discounted off it 5 years ago against a new one today, assuming both are mid spec models although a 21k Fabia is probably a style.

Octavia prices have gone up too much if you ask me, the Golf is a cheaper option excluding the VRS/GTD/GTI where the Skoda is cheaper but less well specced as standard.

2km is nothing either, most garages would do that just filling the tank on top of transport.

Ye maybe it wasn't a fair comparison. I was sure it had 1.5k euro of it as opposed to 4k as it was a new car with 2km just pre registered to the dealer.

Someone I know has a new model octavia ambient spec (or whatever the mid spec is called now) and I was in it and it wasn't anything to get excited about very plain interior golf interior is nicer in them specs. The VRS is far nicer inside however. I suppose anyone thats buying a standard octavia over a standard golf is buying it for the extra boot space plus I suppose it more suited to people with children for this reason.

Looked at going a few weeks ago and it was working out a lot more expensive

Went out this morning, noticed a puncture pumped it with the hand pump wouldn't hold air. Swapped to the spare micky mouse wheel and headed up to the local mechanic. Only when I wheeled the wheel up to his garage I noticed the tyre was flush with the wear marks.

He had a Dunlop sp sport 200 that he had for a few weeks hanging around.. He said he will get a new Dunlop sp sport 200 and give them for 70 euro each. Is this good or bad? Not up to date on tyres

When I first seen that all I seen was 1 atm as in pressure one atmosphere /14.7 psi / 1.013 bar / 101,325 pa I don't know why haha. Ye maybe someone else can confirm as I've never had 14s but I though you'd get cheaper that that even on mid range.

Also lidl have a few bits and boobs tomorrow bottle jack, coolant and windscreen washer not sure how accurate they are and the first aid looks good for 7 quid I might pick that up myself as the first aid I have for the car is too big I need a near compact one.

LOL that's gas :Pac: There would be some pull towards the ditch with that pressure.. I not sure to be honest with you. All I do know is I'm looking forward to getting a known brand tyres to see the difference. Previous tyre was muck in the wet. Dry weather was meh.

I remember I paid €55 a tyre I think it was for a Dayton, from a tyre place so I'd say €70 if it's fitted as well isn't bad!

Ya fitted the whole lot.. I thought though Dunlop may have been more expensive.. But maybe its just the size? Like low profile be more expensive?

That particular one is a summer tyre but they have winter tyres too. One there for €54.

Just having a read around here and a couple of other forums about the Focus ST170. I'm actually shocked at how bad on fuel people claim they are, with one owner even saying he would do well to see 350 miles on a tank and taking it easy that is.

I was hoping to bring an ST Fiesta 150 into the country next year but with the way the sterling has gone these past few weeks ( and its predicted that it won't improve for a long time to come ) it wouldn't be worth my while now at this stage.

That doesn't sound too unreasonable at all tbh, what size is the tank in the focus?

Usually I get roughly the same, if I brim my tank, drive it until there's roughly an indicated quarter of a tank left, i'm usually in the ballpark of 350 miles. It's a 55l tank, so usually takes around 38-40 litres to fill, costing around €48-50. Works out around 40mpg which is pretty ok.

Had similar from a normal mark 2 focus back in the day. Size of the tank comes into it too.
