In fairness though, if they did block all porn into Ireland, we'd all see massive gains on our download speeds!!

and once we all had our glorious 1GB download speeds, the first thing we'd all do is miss porn.

Could we just ban porn down there in Kerry? Compromise is the name of the game.

We could just carve away Kerry and let them be their own state!

Swings and roundabouts. I think I've only ever encountered one person who I'd classify as a porn enthusiast and the guy ended up with ED because a real woman didn't do it for him. I've met as many women as men who enjoy a bit of porn though.

A bit of porn to get you off, but then there are people who watch it as a form of entertaining.

That's what's so entertaining. Some of them are so bad in terms of acting and story, they're downright hilarious.

One of my friends showed us a porno he'd watched. A mechanic was fixing a car, when a woman came up to him, said her car broke down. He took a quick look at it. She asked if he could fix it. He said "Sure, if you suck my dick". She told him to f*ck off and walked away. It cut to a few minutes later, where she returned, asked him again, he said the same thing, she called him a pervert and walked off again. Cut to another few minutes later where she returned and finally said okay. They had sex for a while.

At the end, he's sitting in a chair and she's sitting naked on his lap. She asks "Now will you fix my car?" He says "Doesn't need fixing. It's just out of gas!" She slaps him, calls him a pig and walks off, while he rocks back and forth in his chair laughing like a maniac.

Honestly, it was more entertaining than the actual sex.

What's "progressive" about banning something that is perfectly legal?

I have a feeling this crowed would have been against the old Gay Marriage and all that, After all I would wager they think watching Gay porn turns you gay.

They remind me of the oul wans protesting in front of Stringfellows strip club years ago.

Maybe we should send Fidelma Healy Eames down to them, she'd fit right in.

I don't see them being very successful and rightly so. Lots of adults are able to manage porn without any adverse affects. I do believe there is a danger for young people who grow up with porn being normal part of their online activities, its creating hyper sexualised young people with unrealistic attitudes to sex and that is a worthy concern but banning porn is not the answer. Its a shame this very important aspect of their campaign is being lost but they should have expected this reaction.

Jesus Christ, it's bad enough when I have to go into hospital every once in a while for two weeks and porn sites are banned. Then I have to rely on the likes of nuts magazines that my friend brings me, it's no way to live  :p

Nothing -- it's regressive. But it's government considers it a progressive step. It's expected that more governments will follow in the coming decades.:D

Some feminists want the same thing and consider it progressive (although there's some messed up porn out there). Right Wingers want it for different reasons.

Porn's been illegal in Iceland for over a hundred years, they never got around (or never wanted) to legalising it. But the law isn't enforced. You can by porn magazines, films and things, it's freely available and accessed online. There was a bit of a thing a couple of years ago where some minister suggested a ban on online porn (wanting to ammend the century old law to cover it) and then trying to block it in the country. There was a little bit of support from feminist and conservative religious (it's amazing how often those two sides end up yelling the same things) quarters, but it was overwhelmingly ridiculed as ridiculous, backwards and unworkable and never got off the ground.

Exactly. While I don't think porn should be banned, people are entitled to express their view that those aggressive depictions are just disturbing.

In fairness the worst crime is giving them coverage, I shouldn't even know about this silly womens group, so mission accomplished for them.

Ps, could you imagine this country if porn was banned, I'd imagine there'd be a rise in rape and voyeurs, ironic that a womens group is calling for that!

Not sure I could stand a return to waiting for this months Kays Catalogue to arrive.

Anyway it will never happen. They banned torrent sites. tap tap tap - Im looking at a torrent site. They might get as far as an opt in policy, but really, there are bigger issues to deal with like homelessness, housing shortages and fixing the health service to name but a few.

Yes the filter stops access to pornsites on a mobile phone

Well it only works when one is solely dependent on Three's internet connection and it does not bar access to all of them, believe me. I've been with three for a few years now and only recently bothered to disable the porn filter I certainly looked at porn before then.

LoL... because we haven't been able to torrent things in years:rolleyes: We can't even effectively remove child abuse imagery from the internet how the hell do you think they will ban videos of consenting adults engaging in sex?

These individuals are wrong on a number of grounds factually in regard to what they say about the effects of pornography and morally in that they wish to oppress others.
