I don't like this situation. What happens next should be interesting. So many tools running the world it's frightening.

Though we aren't technically neutral like the Swiss.

The Swiss happen to be in the top 10 -12 arms exporters in the world

Point taken but I would have thought that some sort of agreement should have been achieved when Russia went into Syria that it may happen that they might stray into their airspace. It would be completely different if Russian jets just flew into it for other purposes.
Besides this is just conjecture at this point as the Russians say they were in Syria and the Turks in turkey.
Might be a while before we actually know what indeed happened.

Ah come on! The russkies have been messing with airspace boundaries and flexing their muscles for some time now. They just annexed Crimea for a warm water base. They did not 'stray' anywhere. This had intent, as with everything they are doing.

So this is it, the start of WW3. You would think they would at least wait till Christmas.

Don't worry, it'll be over by Christmas.

We cant assume what has actually happened as we don't know the entire facts.
Crimea is a bit of a different story now isn't it, but that will drag this off topic

Turkey have done nothing but fuel ISIS, they hate Assad and want him gone so instead of using their vast military to hit ISIS they start hitting their old foe the PKK only strengthening ISIS on the syria/turkey boarder.

Lets not forget in the start of this problem Turkey was the one letting Jihadi wannabes cross from Europe into Syria in their thousands.

Now that Russia is involved they are pissed and are shooting down anything that comes close to their airspace.

Great NATO partner and EU candidate we have there.

Well it is understandable given they have been bombing them for the last month. The question is did he die from injuries sustained from the plane being shot down or did they kill him.

It's publication is going to make Putin's life very difficult.

I'd reserve judgement for the minute, the last one of these videos of muslims "celebrating the Paris attacks" turned out to be Pakistan fans celebrating a win in the cricket.

Don't know if 'celebrate' is the right word.

Hard to tell if the airman was russian.... his face was blackened by burns.
    Certainly dead though.

This is the type of incident that could start a war.

    Specially in the current climate.

Russia has REPEATEDLY encroached on Turkish airspace and have finally drawn a reaction...wonder what the game plan is here....

Remember when Russia invaded the Ukraine and nobody did anything about it?

Yeah, nothing will happen here. Russia won't touch Turkey directly but will treat all Turkish aircraft as hostiles while vehemently denying that it ever violated Turkish airspace. A couple of misguided bombs may land close to the Turkish border. Turkey will get all hot and bothered, NATO will shout at Russia and Russia will deny everything.

It's not like they've ever been best buddies anyway.

What's even more interesting is the NATO missile defense system on the border with Syria was taken down in October.

Russia says its plane was shot down by artillery fire from Turkey, yet last month according to reports Turkey didn't have this capability to do it without the Patriot missile defence system.

    UKR is not NATO though.

They (Russian Media) are also saying that it was shot down by rebels using a Manpad. They seem to be avoiding the narrative that the Turks shot it down.

It's being widely reported that F-16s shot it down, only Russia saying it came from the ground.

Russia have recent form of spinning whatever bull**** is convenient to their current propaganda narrative. Downed by AAAs is less embarrassing than having been outclassed by another nation's aircraft.

That said, Turkey were not happy about the decommissioning of the NATO sites, so if they had kept some of them active on the quiet, it would suit Turkey's narrative to claim the downing was done by aircraft.
