You wont get wipers changed in a service. They won't even point them out usually. You'll get your filters and oil done and that's about it. They can tart it up all they like, but essentially that's all you'll get. You may get a quick once over, but it won't be thorough. Basically what I'm getting at is, if you want something checked out, ask them beforehand, don't assume they'll check it for you.

Ye I don't know what Renault are like for services generally. I know the service manager so I'll tell him to give it a proper going over. The Skoda garage my mother gets her car serviced in is great. The last time I was there half way through the service the service manager came out with a 3 page checklist filled in and she went through it with us and there wasn't to much not included in the checklist tbh down to very small things. They also always change the wipers I mean we've never bought wipers for it and they are new after the services.

I doubt the Renault service will be that good that's probably the best I've seen. I'm not too bothered once filters are changed and it gets some look over. I normally service my car myself but this has a full Renault service history with the same garage from new when I say full down to ever set of tyres have been bought there. So would be a shame to break that and would be better when I come to sell it on if it got serviced there. That and the fact that they have to be one of the most awkward cars to service.

I doubt anyone in the market for your megane in a few years would care whether a skoda or renault dealer serviced it. The fact that it's actually been serviced is all that's needed.
If you know you're gonna get better service in the Skoda garage, it's mental to go to Renault just for matching rubber stamps on the book.

Ye I suppose you are right there. I am only speculating on the Renault service as I don't know from experience. Infairness I know the Renault garage has very good mechanics and they are the only ones that have ever touched the car and it runs perfect now and is mechanically very good so they have obviously been doing something right. But you are right anyone buying the car is not going to be majorly concerned there is only a 50/50 chance they will even ask about service history.

Its a new ssangyon tivoli. Its the main dealer I bought the Passat from.
Tbh a very nice car, boot is pretty poor but a very nice spec. Had black heated leather, a heated steering wheel, hd DVD screen so you could watch DVDs and it had a hdmi cable so you could connect the laptop to it and watch movies via the cable.

Actually a serious question though for a full service in a main dealers you know the way they have a checklist they go by do they generally check timming belt condition during a service ?

Unlikely, next to zero chance really. Can't see any garage removing cover to peak at it unless there is signs of coolant or oil leak in engine bay.

Timing belts aren't check for condition items really, change at required intervals is usually the way.

A glance at water pump for leak wouldn't be unusual for most thorough mechanics.

Ye I was thinking that they wouldn't remove the cover to look at it. Its due on a time basis in march and it is also fairly near the mileage limit of 150k km (130k km on it now). It would of suited to leave it till the summer but Im not a lucky person so playing timing belt roulette mightned be the wisest thing to do :pac:

Traveled 9 counties (550ish km) today with work just to turn two machines off and on again. Was dreading it but down around Dungarven was beautiful with the weather we had today. Never down that way before. Really nice drive.

Today on the beach we were flying around all grand until someone decided to head up the beach a little too far :)

I went out of sight in like 0.2 seconds!!

We met some foreign guys on off roaders and a Dodge ram, they saved us big time :)

Massive thanks goes out to them! We got some great film of them, they are massively talented and will surely end up in the next video :)

Seems they have you thrown in the deep end. Is it a case of the new lad gets stuck with the sunday work :) Infairness I'd rather have a long drive and a quick easy job to fix the problem as opposed to the other way around.

No its the norm. I cover some of the Munster region (mainly North Cork and Kerry) but every third week I work the weekend the same as everyone else. I have to cover every train station this side of Dublin then but its all call outs. Its rare that I'd have to do that much driving on a weekend but it can happen. If that call came in 10 mins later I wouldn't have had to do that trip. Fcuk it, its done now and I'm off till Wednesday and only have a 3 day week next week :D You're right about the long drive for 5 mins work too. I'd take that any day. Literally 5 mins. Didn't even switch off the van.

Ah not so bad sounds like you get to see plenty of the country anyway. You wouldn't mind doing work every third weekend and it can be nice to get days of during the week too. I worked shift during the summer and loved the mix working weekends is not as bad as people would think. I'll probably be caught to work one weekend a month when I start granted not straight away until I've built up some experience well I hope anyway.

People think I'm mad but I actually consider it a perk working 7 days straight for a Monday and Tuesday off and a following 3 day week. It suits me down to the ground. When are you starting the new job?

Not till June as I'm in final year of college and not finished till mid May. I got offered it in September so it's a long build up to the start date but can't wait. After 4 years of college I'm well and truly sick of it. A lot more of a trill and satisfaction from solving real world problems.

Brimmed the focus, ready for another week. You can see last weeks mileage there too. I reset it every week, don't know why, to keep track I suppose. When I think about it, it's just about diesel territory.

Best of luck with it. June will creep up on you before you know it. Also, the novelty of solving real world problems wears off fairly quickly :pac:

Ye I always reset the trip after filling up even though I use odometer reading on fuelly I find it a good way to keep track. I haven't been doing much driving the last few weeks as I'm so busy studying and doing assignment at weekends where as I'd normally be doing a reasonable amount of driving at the weekends. I mean I came home Friday afternoon drove about 5km Friday evening and the car haven't moved since.

Ya, but college is a lot of bull really. The amount of shyte you go through if doing a B.Ed for example, is unreal. Lecturers thinking we should all be singing and dancing delivering lessons, having off the wall stuff every class. They were so out of tune with classroom dynamics is wasn't funny, away with the fairies if you like. Forget 70% of the shyt they spoke and you were fine. Plenty of courses could be condensed into 3 years, but all they see you for is money, and they like to drag things out needlessly. Anyway, rant over.

I'm not up on teaching but I've a friend doing primary teaching B.Ed afaik and she seems to be doing loads of teaching practice over the 4 years which I think is a good thing. I mean my placement improved my abilities an unbelievable amount the lecturers always say the improvement in students coming back from placement is unreal. It's like it helps gel the whole course together and gives you a taste of being qualified and finished so gives motivation for final year.

Didn't really do the whole college thing myself but the people I know who did would probably agree with you 100%. Well I did in a way. 2 of the 3 off the job phases of the apprenticeship were done in LIT. I can't think of a single time that I've had to use the stuff I was taught there. I'd say many apprentices would agree.

It's freezing hard now. Seems I'll have to root in my magic boot box in the morning to find some de-icer hopefully I have some. The one thing I miss from the focus was the quick clear heated front window screen they are very good Infairness.

Yar, I've an early start too, but heading more west so the frost generally isn't as bad the closer to the atlantic you get. I love the quick clear windscreen, the focus has the switch, but someone must have replaced the windscreen with a standard, non heated one at some stage. Still, both cars are garaged, so they should be dry and clear in the morning. Then it's all about finding the balance of warm air coming into the cabin which will keep you warm yet keep the windows mist free at the same time.

Having the air-con / CC on too certainly helps the minimise the humidity in the air and stop the fog up. There isn't a de-humidifier though AFAIK, so wonder how it works.

Used my heated screen for the first time the other morning. Missed it since my last focus yonks ago.
