I'm gonna buy a scotch whiskey, I think. A bottle of laphroaig should do the trick.

The smokiness and peatiness of it will serve as exquisite aftertaste to my internet warrioring.
No man is an island they say, but I'll be the king of islay.

At least throw a few extra quid on top and go for a midleton rare.

If you're that confident would you not want to take the free money from all comers? You'd get so much action that you could retire come May.

    I like my job.

The papers link United to a lot of players. Gaitan is a long running gag at this point. Every club in the world would like to sign Ronaldo, Bale and Neymar and the media can only say that United are one of those clubs. None of these players are for sale. Any move by any club for those top rank players has to be opportunistic, and is usually accompanied by the player forcing the move like Ronaldo did at United and Bale did at Spurs.

You're setting yourself up for huge disappointment every transfer window if you believe every transfer story in the paper. People do not want to hear next summer that Ed Woodward is a joke and a failure because he didn't sign Ronaldo, Bale or Neymar when they were never for sale.

I don't think a sensible deal could be done for Ronaldo. I wouldn't go above 30 million for him, and even then I would be trying to break it down into performance related payments to offset the risk of a player in his thirties with recent concerns on form and injuries. And on the other hand, I cant see Real want rid at a low price unless his form this season continues to be unremarkable for the wages he is on there.

It was the Sun newspaper that linked United with Neymar, and they were seen as losing their marbles and taking the rumours level to a new level of a joke.
Then Neymar's father came out and admitted they have been in contact. The rumour is united offered Neymar £75/over €100 million over 5 years.
From what I see this is a win/win for United, in that it means Barcelona have to spend more on a new contract for Neymar, or Neymar will likely leave.
Given the talk that Barcelona is not in a good financial position at the moment - talk that their financing via loans are nowhere near the very manageable level of United, it is like United are playing a cold war game, where both the US and Soviet Union were trying to outspend each other and it all ended bad for the Soviet Union.
If United don't get Neymar and you would say at the moment the odds are high that they won't, it means Barcelona are less likely to be able to afford other top players that United want.
All the talk at the moment is that they can't afford to spend big on any new player in January.
Then a former president who might have his own grudge said, Barcelona will need to sell either Messi or Neymar.
Neymar's father then talks about the possibility of leaving Spain.

There is one thing people are ignoring, or at the very least not paying enough attention to. The rise and rise of revenues in the English Premier League, no other league is able to compete with the amount of money that is on offer to teams. From next season on if you win the Premier League the revenues of winning will rise from around £100 million to somewhere around £160 million - easily the most of any league.
You can be sure agents and their players want a piece of that pie.

I've read the massive difference in what a pl team in 20th gets compared to what a LA liga team in 20th gets, ( barca and Madrid earn the majority could you see Spanish teams putting up a fight to have a more balanced payout for each team

Spurs look good this season. Definite threat for the top 4, I'd say.

Was about to say Kane was playing well, until he scuffed his shot one on one.

Yeah as you can see in the link I posted below. The pay structure has been changed for this season, as Real Madrid and Barcelona no longer can negotiate their own deals separate to everyone else.

Looking at that one would have to assume less money for both Real Madrid and Barcelona?

Yes, as I posted in the matchday thread, I am a fan of Kane, but that mis-hit was embarrassing, but at least he had scored before that.
    It was bad...

Sorry pal, you're too late to the party.

I was early to the party but you ignored my bet, repeatedly :(

No, I never asked for a charity bet. You would rate Leicester at a 500/1 shot for the title and United similar. If you would like I will accept odds of 400/1 for United to win the league?

Spurs are really coming along this season I have to say. Favourite for the 4th CL spot for me.

Sign Kane in the summer and get Pochetino the summer after. Both absolutely top drawer.

United will strengthen well in January - maybe in defense and most likely in attack.

It doesn't matter what other teams do, United have a good consistency going, maybe I am wrong, but aren't the last two goals conceded both penalties?
LVG said he was working on the attack a few weeks ago, when it was dire and some were near enough to arguing it was the way LVG wanted the team to play - no it wasn't, yesterday was a bit closer to what he wants but Van Gaal will want a big improvement still in the attack.

Yesterday was a title winning performance, going level with not many minutes left and to then get a winner with time running out very fast, is the sort of thing champions are made of.
All this despite the injury crisis that seems to have sprung up over the past two weeks.
From what we have seen, no other team has dealt with a similar injury crisis in the same way in terms of being consistent, and for United most of the injuries were thankfully minor ones with Shaw and Valencia the longer term ones.

Old Trafford is again looking like the fortress it once was, and we are winning away games more easily than we have been where we struggled at times last season.

David James said yesterday he could see United winning the title, Scholes was less sure but I think James was closer to the mark than Scholes.
Eight games unbeaten in a row now, great record in defense which we hope continues, more chances being created and if you were LVG you would have to be really believing the League is there for the taking.

Lads, don't engage. Too many people seem thrilled when someone jumps into the thread looking for a reaction, and are too eager to give them one. Don't. Don't engage, don't take jabs and don't backseat moderate.

    Time to move on, please.

Kane would be a great replacement for Rooney.

Kane and Stones would be ideal signings.

Would cost a fortune but in my opinion guaranteed first team players for over a decade

Everton want £45 million for John Stones. according to reports.
Kane would be at least £50 million, such a vital player for Spurs.

Spurs are three points behind us now with a 3 goal better GD.
Just 4 goals worse off than City, and we're 2 goals worse off than Arsenal. Liverpool did us a favour with their scoring last night as the goal difference was a bit 7 off City.
We are two goals better off than Leicester.
    Not bad all things considered.

Yes but you are looking at two young English players who will be first team players for the next decade.

Barkley is starting to fulfill his potential also but he is injury prone.

I don't have a problem with the price or the players for that matter. We got Rio for £30 million and that was in 2002, so while £45 million is a lot of money, it is also not unreasonable from Everton.

Daniel Levy would probably want at least £60 million for Kane and far more if his current form continues.
He looks like he could be a consistent 25 to 30 plus goals a season player.
