People wonder why young criminals aren't afraid of the gards.

They can put it up to the gards, mouth at them, shout, push, provoke etc and they know the gards cant do anything.

Young people see there parents carry on like this, what do you expect?

About time the gards start dishing it out to anyone who behaves like these morons.

Get a bit of respect for authority back.

Authority destroyed itself in this country by corrupt politicians, pervert priests, corrupt bankers/regulators and a failed Garda/Justice leadership.
Ordinary people had nothing to do with it. Respect has to be earned which will lead to respect for authority. End of rant.

Would ya stop, bankers blah blah.

We have the softest police force in Europe.

Nobody is afraid of the law and thats why we see so much repeat offenders, little scumbags running riot with no fear.

As soon as a gard tries to exert a bit of authority you have the usual whingers on.

You wont get a smack if you keep out of trouble and not be a general nuisance quoting the law and roaring peaceful protest while pushing gards.

Morons need to do something more productive with their lives.

Ordinary people had nothing to do with it.

Except, of course, when they did have something to do with it. Like when even the dogs in the street knew what was going on here for years, at the hands of the religious, and did nothing, said nothing and actually facilitated it's continue.

Respect? You think people have more respect for Gardai who act like thugs?

For a full 8 seconds that man stood hunched behind the Garda after regaining his balance (and at least a foot away from him also). At 3m44secs in the above video you can actually see that one of the other men is actually hunched with the man at this time and both are looking at the ground and in conversation. There was absolutely no need for the Garda to turn around and start beating the man with a baton. He was doing nothing wrong.

It's quite clear that many of you just don't like these people are incapable of looking at the incident and seeing what actually occurred.

All I have seen is selective footage as yourself.

But like most of these videos there is always more.

Remember the footage of the gard pepper spraying a chap a while back?

    The usual outrage and uproar.

It then came out the chap had mugged 3 people just before it and tried to grab the pepper spray while been arrested.

    No smoke without fire.

Violence has been tried by our State since its foundation and has not worked with any of the groups it has been tried out on. This incident could have ended up with riots on the streets more guards kicked and beaten etc all for the actions of one man. The guards are trained to not respond to provocation and unfortunately this guard responded incorrectly at the heat of the moment.

Guards can no longer hit out at annoying people like they could have done in the past in small numbers because there were no cameras or people motivated by what they see as unjust actions being taken by the financial and civil powers that be in this case the sale of distressed properties and repossessions etc. Now is the time for guards to be trained to be as cool and calculating in their every move against trouble makers and such like. As an organisation they cannot afford to have bad tempered actions being shown in public being committed by their more ill tempered members.

Your right that's when people were afraid of authorithy. We have learned a lot since.

From looking at videos the guards where in among protestors intent on getting some sort of reaction from the Guards. I was sick to my stomach when I hear them calling out "shame on you" to the guards. They are on a paltry wage, under staffed and get a lot of abused thrown at them.

What are you on about? We see continuous footage. The incident you are referring to was far different in that we had no idea what had gone on previous. That's not the case here as we see what led up to the man standing beside the Garda and before he ended up being beaten by him.

The Garda was writing in his notepad from 3m17s to 3m27s and then he decides to push the girl (along with the man) away with his left arm. This results in the girl falling backwards and grabbing the man's arm. In turn he grabs the Garda's arm (this I could be persuaded was justifed). The Garda had no notepad in his left hand at this point. The Garda then puts the notepad into that his left hand briefly (after the man interlocks his arm) and eventually the man and the girl regain their balance. The man and his friend then appear to be looking for something on the ground for approximately 8 seconds at which point the Garda starts to beat the man with the baton. Are you all blind or what? The video is there folks. Might be an idea if you watched it.

Might be an idea if you watch it again, keeping an eye on the man that was hit. After he fell, he was up to something behind the Garda, leading to the Garda to use his baton.

"He drank the wine in a laneway close to Parnell Street.
The man had been asked to move on by the garda after he was found drunk and slouched against the shutters of a shop. Five minutes later, he was seen on CCTV “staggering and appearing to be very intoxicated, loitering around the entrance to an empty shop on Henry Street”.
The garda approached the man a second time and eventually arrested him for being drunk at 3.30pm and waited for assistance".

I don't see any mention of muggings in any of the reports the Guard did not say anything about it or was he charged.

Read some of the articles about what happened Maybe you could correct your post.

It's the plain close Garda's hand that is on the man's arm before he was hit and the detective reacted angrily to his colleague's actions.

You mean he hit his own colleague? Oopsies.

Did you look at the film?

Yes, I did. No one has their hand on the Gardas arm before he used his baton.

Read post 349 again and then look at the film again.

Let me correct the post. The tall detective (plain clothes) on the right side of the Garda with the baton has his right hand on the arm of the old man that is about to be struck with the baton. Look at the detective's (plain clothes) reaction to his colleagues actions. He pushes the baton-wielding Garda back with his right hand, look at his facial expression.

It is a shocking (but not surprising) indictment of this State that our Police are employed in this capacity. With our long and tragic history of evictions by rack renting landlords, exploitation of our poor and vulnerable people and the robbery of our land, our State should NEVER allow peoples properties to be thrown away to the highest bidder in this manner.
Shame on us and shame on that policeman - no better than the land agents during the famine.

    rabble rabble.

Unfortunately if you take a loan and cant pay it back there is consequences.

    Its a way of life.

Only in extreme cases will evictions happen. Thousands have met with their banks and worked out an arrangement.

Most of these people been evicted wont even turn up for a meeting.

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Have you any sense of what it is like to 'meet with the bank and work out an arrangement?'. The many people I deal with in these positions have a horrendous time from the banks - when they can be even bothered to meet. One person I know has just received an eviction notice having missed one payment!

    Bull****.

You are lying. That person did not receive an eviction notice for missing one payment.

Their their lying to you or you are.

I resent the accusation - I have no need to lie. Please try to argue your point while remaining civil. She is a single parent who had an interest only aggreement with her previous bank due to inability to pay the full mortgage. Her loan has since been taken on by another bank. She missed a payment in Sept and received a letter from the banks solicitor threanening eviction. I advised her to meet with the bank and they are refusing to meet.

So please hop off your high horse like a good man.

you didn't say she was on an interest only agreement in your other post ,,that's why you were challenged.

Ah, but a letter threatening eviction =/= an eviction notice. Perhaps you would be clear in your posts in future?

I watched it all and garda assaulted an elderly man who was not directly engaging with him.

That garda is a thug nothing more!

Very hard to defend that excuse for a public servant .
But I am sure that there are those on here who feel the garda was threatened beyond reproach!

Did you see the part where the Garda was impeded when trying to arrest the bloke over an alleged assault and then the jailhouse lawyers hopped up on their soapboxes talking bollix.
