The Eagles of Death Metal have at least brought some measure of good news

    Have you heard ours?

Don't take much heed in national anthems as most of them are nationalistic violent war anthems. Islamic States one is probably no different either mind

Picking and choosing is all your doing, the bible is the holy book of Christianity and preaches some pretty awful ****, your a hypocrit by choosing to believe some and not the rest when the church teach to believe it all

Nobody gives a bollix what people believe (or are allegedly told to believe), it's what they do that counts.

You come back and spew some more of this mess when we have a load of Christians going around slaughtering scores of civilians in the name of their god/bible/whatever. And I mean now, not a thousand years ago.

    I won't hold my breath.

Does this extend to all sets of ideas or just religious ones? Am I obligated to not disrespect the ideas of those who see mass privatisation & scrapping of regulations as being a solution to all economic ills? Am I obligated to not disrespect the ideas of those who reject the notion of manmade climate change & want to continue polluting the planet without limitation? How about people who call for mass control, surveilance & censorship of the internet? Can I disrespect their ideas? Please?

it is notable how this thread is being used by people, not to discuss the events, but to have a go at the IRA, Catholic Church, the USA, capitalism, communism or whatever group they want to have a go at.
It is all a bit sad.

Will people shut the **** up about things that happened centuries ago or things a few pedo priests did.

This attack happened literally a few hours ago. Those things have no relevance.

Sky News saying a former writer with Charlie Hebdo who lived to see the aftermath of that murder spree in emergency treatment as a result of this. How horrible.

    He was shot?

I remember one of the people killed in the Virginia Tech massacre a few years back was a lecturer that survived the Concentration Camps.

Imagine, surviving one of the worst atrocities known to mankind and then being killed by a delusional crazy person.

I don't pretend to be tolerant of anything. Not like the fakey fake lefty brigade.

    hashtag weloveallmoslems

It's nothing to do with politics. It's to do with taking the humanistic approach.

People are dead/dying because of extremist monsters. They are not indicative of an entire religion/group of people.

You have a problem with religion. Fine. I'm not religious either but I can accept that some people are and hey, as long as they can respect my views, I have no issue with that.

I get that you have views of your own on the subject but I can't agree with them. Shutting off EU countries to immigrants/refugees sets a bad precedent.

But I bet you'd have no issue applying for a 2 year visa to Australia/Canada etc if the opportunity arose.

Whataboutery. Poor effort at it even. That was then. This is now. The rest of the world doesn't do that these days. Just Muslims.
Christian terrorists have maimed and massacred hundreds of thousands in the last few decades alone.

I've been locked up doing work stuff for the last few hours, only saw this now when a friend from Paris marked himself 'safe' on Facebook a few minutes ago. Appalling stuff, don't even know what to say to the guy. :(

Have you ever read about the crusades?
Or the Christian Pilgrims treatment of the native Americans?
Or European Christians treatment of aboriginals?
But the events that this thread are about happened hours ago not hundreds of years ago!
    Big difference!!!

Does anyone honestly believe that if religion had never existed, this kind of thing wouldn't still be happening?

I find that fairly hard to believe.

Why are these bastards not targeting countries which haven't been involved in the pillaging of the Middle East?

Religion isn't something that happened to humanity.
It's a product of the illogical part of our brains - our heuristic intelligence that takes shortcuts through rational thought because jumping to conclusions is a safer bet when it's warning you about what might be a tiger in the long grass.

For religion to have not existed would require us not having that part of our brain. If that were the case, then there's every possibility we wouldn't be blowing ourselves up because of stupid nonsense like this.

The world really is ****ed up. The worst part is we're probably at our most 'civilised' we've ever been. God knows how bad it was before.

When you consider that Hitler and Napoleon were atheists, it really takes some neck for atheists to throw mud.

    This is really hitting home.

I attended the Eagles of Death Metal concert in Dublin on Tuesday and had a really great time, and to think the people who were in the same situation I was in just a couple of days have been subject to this horrifying experience is really making my blood boil.

My better half also lives in France, but thankfully a good distance away from Paris, so there's a whirlwind of emotions obviously, but she's safe and will stay vigilant regardless.
I just hope that the vermin who are in any way connected with this bull**** are dealt with, and I mean properly. I never wish death on any person, but these aren't people.

    Per The Guardian:

The Paris prosecutor has said that five attackers “may be” dead across the various attack locations.

Two were earlier reported to have been killed in the operation by French security forces to retake the Bataclan.

It was also reported that at least one of the attacks at the Stade de France was a suicide attack.

It is not known how many attackers were involved and how many could still be at large.

President François Hollande has visited the Bataclan, the concert hall where 120 people are reported to have been killed.

He says France will show no mercy in tracking down terrorists.

Are you seriously putting Napoleon, arguably one of Europe's greatest leaders on the same pedestal as Hitler ?

Napoleon also was in no way an atheist.

This is obviously going to be an extremely emotive thread, we will bear that in mind while we attempt to balance modding with free discussion.

Please separate Muslim from ISIS/Islamic Extremists/Terrorists. We cannot tolerate peaceful human beings being branded otherwise.

Please try to be civil but also have a little more patience with your fellow posters as this is a worrying time for all of us.

Have you ever read about the Crusades? Spanish Inquisition? The things the Catholic Church did in Ireland and that its leadership covered up?

Evil is not unique to one religion and it never has been.

All of these events were un Christian and could not be justified in the new testament. There is nothing Jesus said that could justify the crusades, Spanish inquisition or clerical abuse.NOTHING.

The Quran justifies terrorism, it instructs it's readers to fight, kill and behead the unbelievers.
