Even with your incredibly scientific description of these people it is still not so clear cut.

Within law many can be treated the same.

Eg. Defilement of a child. An 18 year old man who has consensual sex with his 16 year old girlfriend will face the same charge as a 40 year old man who sexually abuses a very young child.
Some people just like to argue, dissect peoples comments etc., for the sake of it in AH...so be it!

Is violaters/predators/defilers of children a better scientific description?

Clear cut enough for you, I'm sure you're aware of what I'm trying to communicate?!

Just looking at the make up of the Government in the 90's and assuming he's from the midlands there's not very many people it could be.
Not so sure he's from the midlands though, it doesn't say he is.

If the Guards failed to act on the initial allegations, then maybe the poor victims had to approach the media to get the authorities to act!

The guards turned a blind eye to decades of the abuse and rape of kids by the catholic church.

I have no doubt they done the same for the almighty politicians!

Gardai are claiming that no allegation was made 10 years ago. Also say that a number of possible victims have been identified and So far the allegations relate to abusive behaviour which is often described in court as "at a lower scale" and do not involve intimate sexual contact.

"There have also been claims today that an alleged male victim made a complaint to gardaí ten years ago, but gardaí said they are not aware of anyone having alleged to have made such a report."

Where are you getting the midlands thing from?

It said in the article it happened in Dublin and the Midlands. Which would suggest he's from the midlands but has a Dublin house as well, most country minsters would have.

No need for expensive judges in these cases then. Let's have trial by computer. Huh?

Oh thats okay then if it was at the lower end of the scale! I'm sure the victims will forget all about it.

Its okay lads, call off the investigation it was only at the lower end of the scale!

Would you mind putting up a picture of this scale, so we have an idea as to the scale of paedophilia is acceptable?

Garda statement: We take these things very seriously but this case isn't a very serious one.

One assumes that, should matters go so far, an out of date warrant will be issued to end the matter.

Report said it happened in employment prior to his/her political role. First thought that struck me was he/she may have been a teacher, but I could be wrong of course.

Any abuse of minors - or adults for that matter, is a serious matter. Like other posters, I'm inclined to query the timing of these claims and will await further news before calling for someones head!

    It certainly is.

Either controlled by wealthy individuals or the state broadcaster which has traditionally seen the people at the top of it appointed by right wing parties, FF/FG.
What examples are there of right-wing sentiment in Irish media (ok there are columnists but these are from across the spectrum) - RTE gets referred to as commie. Allegations of either extreme are just as silly in my opinion.

My God. I wonder if it wasn't FG/FF involved would you be saying this is down to political policing.

I can see why over the decades in Ireland, there was a blind eye turned to child abuse by a certain age and generation of people.

People who think politicians are there betters, and sure who are we to ask questions!

    Pretty despicable really!

    It still hasn't ended.

Our corrupt police force has not arrested a single member of the RC church for obstructing the course of justice (or whatever the legal equivalent term is) when they prevented kids from reporting child abuse.

Not a peep about this from FG, FF or Labour.

Or indeed our right wing media.

I'd say Gerry and the Shinners are waiting with glee as it might take the spotlight off his party's less than perfect record when it comes to abuse and rape of kids...

Incredible that the Sinn Fein obsessives would even use this to verbalise their obsession with SF.
    Well, not that incredible.

I never suggested political policing, rather politicians using misfortunate victims for their own aims.

Like the Labour Party appointing one to The Seanad?

And what particular politicians are forcing these victims to come forward now?

Do you know something we don't?

...... Also it was the British forces and unionist politicians who engaged in the sexual abuse of children in the North.

    ?
Joe Cahill, who helped found the Provisional IRA, was pictured abusing a 14-year-old girl in a car in the 1970s, the sources said.

It was FF, FG and Labour who ran this country while the RC priests were raping kids with impunity and locking up kids in slave labour camps.

Even today, the vermin in the RC church who protected child rapists live a free life knowing they'll never be charged for their crimes.

Yeah and Gerry Adams kept quiet about his brother for a long time as well, so none of them can shout too loud about abuse.
