Right, this guy Shaun Davies is convicted for dangerous driving, doing 192 mph on an English A road. He's using high performance cars Audi and BMW. He videos himself and is convicted by evidence on his own phone. 2 years in jail.

I don't know what to make of all this: it seems tech has just added to the selfie the self convict mode, it seems mad to drive like that on an A road, yet nobody got injured and its two years in jail, he has access to cars that can handle those speeds, everyone loves the Top Gear "races" on real roads (nearly everyone) but this guy pays the price...

    AH your thoughts please.

    Not seeing the problem here.

im pretty sure the top gear lads never hit the guts of 200mph on a public road with other people driving on it

Driving at 190 plus, on the phone and you think he should be told to toddle on? Get a grip. He's a danger on the roads, and unless he's a professional driver he cannot "handle" those kind of speeds. You'd pity the innocent person that this tosser will inevitably kill while trying to show off to his mates.

    My opinion?

He's quite obviously a complete and utter cock.

What's wrong is that on top of the prison sentence he only got a 10 year driving ban. Should have been a life ban imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,173 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Cars are not toys and public roads no place for acting the mick. If he needed his speed fix, there are plenty of legal places to do it.

The driving ban isn't long enough. He's proven himself too immature to be trusted on public roads, the ban should be permanent.

OP, you haven't really explained what you thing is the "wrong" in your thread title.

If you think it's that the sentence is too short, then I fully agree.

300 kph on a public road whilst driving with one hand and recording with the other...the only thing wrong is that he didn't hit a big patch of oil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,540 ✭✭✭Homer

The head on him! He looks like he will fit in well in prison. I wouldn't worry to much op

You ban someone for life for that, or close to it, but it's an absolute nonsense to lock someone up for that, let alone for two years

In the six-minute video released by Northamptonshire Police, he can be seen in various clips hitting dizzying speeds in the vehicles.
Loud music can be heard playing in the background - including Shaggy's "It wasn't me" - as he hurtles along roads across Northamptonshire.

For that alone he should have been given two years.

Anyways, he has nobody to blame but himself. He is a danger to himself and everybody else carrying on like that. No sympathy at all. He should have been banned for a lot longer than 10 years.

Seems fair enough - the only thing that should also be added is a long driving ban and a requirement to re-sit his test.

'Nobody got injured' is not a defence, it's dumb luck.

He might have gotten away with it if it was a reasonably priced car.

He got a 10 year driving ban and he must sit an extended test when it expires.

This guy filmed himself travelling from Donegal Town to Ballybofey on a motorbike a few years ago, and posted it on youtube.

This is very near where I live, and this journey normally takes me about 25 minutes on a clear road.. he does it in 9 minutes.

Parts of the first 3 minutes of the video he is doing 180mph, it is broad daylight and there is traffic on the road.

Although he may be a 'good' driver, it wont mean anything if he hits a stone on the road, or a driver with bad eyesight pulls out in front of him, or a dog etc etc. There is no margin for error @180mph. Also, if he hits another vehicle at that speed he would likely cause the death of the other driver/passengers in the car.

*in fact @ 0:22 a car is pulling out of the roadway and probably can't judge how fast the bike is approaching.

No sympathy for him, he got what he deserved. Its just pure luck no one was hurt or killed, he wasn't acting with any regard for himself or the public so why should anyone give him any regard?

    Should've clicked through :)

I see the daughter is as stupid as the Dad!

You'd also wonder why he felt the need to travel at such speeds on public roads.

If he's in Northampton Rockingham do track days.

In this context he is certainly not a good driver, as a good driver on a public road drives safely and considers those around him.

If it was a motorcycle road race he might be considered a good driver/rider.

Would you jail him if he smashed into another car killing a child, or a whole family?
He absolutely deserved a jail sentence. He basically guaranteed that if he hit someone, he would kill them.

I don't believe jailing him is the answer , I think maybe bring him to rehabilitation to see the results of injuries caused by driving like that , a visit to A & E to see ambulances arrive in after car crashs , an opportunity to speak to nurses , paramedics , police etc who pick up the pieces and then meet the family of deceased car crash victims.

I do agree with the driving ban.

none, but he was followed by the Gardai before the clip started I think.

that is why I had the word 'good' in inverted commas... so-called good driver

Quite possibly , I'd go as far as agreeing if he thought it was joke then possibly imprison him .

A prison sentence for him however and I'm only guessing may be somewhere that he may thrive in with like minded individuals.

Maybe if he was to meet paramedics , families etc in a supervised environment it may work better.

    Are you for real?

Comparing what this guy did with Top Gear? You're a complete tool.

This guy driving at this speed holding a phone has no control of the car. It's the electronics that are controlling the car.

Best thing that could have happened is that he goes straight into a wall at 190mph.

After he gets out he will be behind the wheel and will end up killing someone or a family.

I had my fair share of performance cars capable of high speed but was never such a díckhead to do something like this, always kept it to a track.

OP if you think this guy was hard done by, I hope you don't have a license or a car and if you do, both should be taken off you.
