I was wondering how many posts before someone suggested ignoring the prequels all together. For the record it was one post later than I thought :)

Ignore the whole lot, watched them as a kid and thought they were meh, watched them as an adult and thought the same, tried watching 3 again last week and lasted 15 mins before switching off ........ Now if you had said Star Trek! :)

Actually kinda agree. Will go see the new Star Wars, but I really never got the appeal. Part of this may be because I never saw the originals until I was in my early 20s and I just don't think they hold up well. Would probably feel differently had I seen them as a kid.

I think also when they were released science fiction movies were almost classed as B movies so at the time they were revolutionary.

The Star Trek and Alien film prob mightn't have been made if it weren't for Star Wars.

I've never watched a star wars film. Or any of the godfather trilogy. Or any James Bond movie before Daniel Craig. Or apocalypse now. Or the shining.

Wouldn't really be a film buff.

Does anyone remember when they used to show foreign films late at night on RTE 2? They used to show a lot of Anders Thomas Jensen movies like Flickering Lights and Open Hearts. I highly recommend his danish language films. Thanks RTE.

So, after months of humming and hawing, and trying this one and that one... I am now the proud owner of a Merida Ride 400 ...all I need now is an industrial sized tub of Vaseline and I'm laughing!

Actually machete order skips 1. So if you can make a convincing argument why 1 should be watched.....

I'm the sort of person who'd watch the whole lot for completeness sake. I don't mind watching crappy films from time to time. And the lightsaber fight at the end is decent enough. Ultimately there isn't any reason at all to watch the prequels. They aren't great and they don't really add much to the overall Star Wars story.

Watched that Mad Max Fury Road tonight. Think it's both brilliant and weird at the same time.

Would it have made a difference if I had seen any other mad max movies? Was this a sequel?

I agree, one of my favourite films this year.

It might have helped with the overall feel of the world if you'd seen the other movies, there's a few references but for the most part its a spiritual successor set in the same environment, don't think there was anything that you couldn't understand without seeing them.

I suffered through an hour of American Sniper and gave up.

    Most disjointed movie.

I thought the actual storyline was rubbish, but the action made up for it.

It seemed like they had decided on what action scenes they wanted and then came up with a story that would allow them to show those scenes rather than the other way around.

Definitely a leave your brain at the door movie for me.

Mad Max is just mad. I saw it in the cinema and thought it was completely stupid but I was loving it all the same. With the actual storyline the film moves so quick that it's about half or 2/3 of the way through before I even wondered what the film was about!

American Sniper I thought was ok as a stand alone film but then when you read about what the guy was really like it becomes really bad. Seemingly he was nothing like the guy in the film and was fond of a bit of the auld exaggerating/making stuff up.

Agreed, and I'd read too much about it/ the main character before watching it.

Think I was the same with Silver Linings Playbook , had heard so much about it, and the brilliant performance of the leads capturing people with mental illness brilliantly..... I watched an hour of it and can honestly say I havent seen a worse film in the last 10 years. Unadulterated horsepoo... imo of course
Can't bring myself to watch American Sniper :)
