So eh, did anyone get a letter in German from some Insolvency company regarding HWVS? I can't read it as I don't speak German

I plan on building a gaming machine within the next 4-6 weeks (€800-€900 ex-monitor).

Are there usually much savings to be had during Black Friday Sales?

I'm tempted to just order this week or next from Mindfactory, which don't seem to have Black Friday specials.

Recently, only if your partlist is fairly liquid and you haven't got your mind set on certain items and those alone.

Definitely keep money aside for an SSD, prices have been dropping extremely low recently and you're likely to get a great deal this year on at least a few different models.

Mindfactory doesn't need Black Friday to drop their prices low because their prices are generally already quite low. What they should do for Black Friday is waive their idiotically high delivery charges for overseas customers.
That overseas charge probably subsidises the free shipping that Germans get from either warehouse, but God, it's so so high.

Well lads, trying to revive a dead motherboard. Tis an Asrock Z77 Pro3. Problem is definitely neither CPU nor RAM nor CPU.

When diagnosing it originally, then first symptom was that it would boot up (all fans spin etc) but no video. Then it completely stopped working. Not a peep when I tried to power it on.

That was over 2 years ago. Having a look at it again (using different RAM and a different CPU - G1610) and still has the same issue. Completely dead. Was wondering if it might be the battery? Would a motherboard refuse to boot up completely if the battery were dead?

    Thanks!

Only thing the CMOS Battery does is keep a bit of juice flowing through the BIOS chip to keep the internal clock running and your BIOS settings saved. So unless the BIOS had some settings that was keeping your PC running, i doubt it is that. A quick multimeter check would determine if it was dead. They usually last about 5 years i think.

First step is to test the PSU with symptoms like that Gumbi

PSU is completely fine, have been running it in my current system for 2 years since giving up on that motherboard.

Looking to upgrade my PC from the ape of the atx enclosed in a CM Storm Trooper case to a smaller ITX form. I've been debating it for months but now I can finally afford the upgrade, only problem i'm having is the severe lack of Z170 ITX mobos.

Does anyone here know if I should wait for more boards to come out or should I just invest in one now? Also, does anyone have recommendations for one?

There is always going to be a more limited choice of options when dealing with ITX sized motherboards.

So just saw the new fallout trailer.

I'm not a graphics whore but I was under the impression that they were going to be amazing for this game and that that was a lot of the reason it's supposedly gonna be a bit of a resource hog? I was completely underwhelmed by that aspect of the trailer. It actually looks kinda dated at times.

Oh well, looking forward to the game anyway.

I haven't looked, but would wonder if the 'BIOS' has CPU limitations?
If it is an older 'BIOS' then it might need updating with a suitable CPU inserted.

Just a thought as I have not looked at the specs ....

Also have a problem could use some help with, built a PC for someone about two years ago:
    FX-6300 (never overclocked)
    AMD 7850 2gb
    CX 500W PSU
    Asrock 970 AM3 board

Basically the PC will boot up ok if left powered off for more than 24-30 hours,if its then turned off and rebooted all power lights, fans etc all turn on and spin but no signal to the screen. The PC is totally unresponsive at this point, power button reset etc dont work. Also keyboard is backlit and it does not light up at this point either. So either USB's are not being powered or the driver is not getting a chance to load. Unsure which. He brought it to a repair shop who basically checked the Ram,GPU(breaking the pci retention clip in the process!) and came to the conclusion it was the motherboard. Had a look at the board and no burst caps or anything and visually looks fine. I know have the PC and the first thing im going to try is using a spare PSU to rule that in/out. Anything else i should be trying? When i arrive earlier to collect the PC when i booted it up it ran chkdsk,as the PC had to be powered down by pulling the plug, could OS corruption cause this? Also there is no bios splash screen at boot when its going to go unresponsive.

Strange that it will power on and work fine, gaming etc no problem but if powered off and tried again immediately it becomes unresponsive with no video signal. And leaving it for 24-30hrs allows it to boot up again amd work normally!

    Any advice appreciated

Don't worry the modding community won't be long offering huge graphics improvements if you have the hardware for it.

Skyrim has to be one of the most if not the most modifiable game ever made.

One thing that really bugs me in modern titles though is bad facial animation especially in dialogue heavy games like Fallout. It's been 11 years since Half Life 2. There is no excuse for it anymore. It completely breaks immersion.

Hey guys, any recommendations as to a high quality 650 watt PSU? Looking at a Superflower 650 watt model at the moment, any other recommendations?

Also, looking to grab a cheapo motherboard for a G1610. Looking for as cheap as possible. Anything to look for in the following models? (The only Asrock mobo I had failed me so thinking of trying Asus, but don't really care tbh. Voltage dcontrol would be nice for power savings/overclocking so I'll have to investigate which board misght suppoirt it).

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/en/DDR3/150665/ASUS+H61M-F%2C+Sockel+1155%2C+mATX%2C+DDR3.article

Also, any recommendations as to a cheap cheap small case. I have a handful of fans hat I might use so 140mm fan support is disireable but not critical. It should aslo support a 7870 XFX card but I think most any would support it.

    Thanks!

Upgrading to G-Sync seems like a minor thing with the monitor you already have to be honest. 300-400 won't get you the 1440p 144hz G-Sync equivalent. Get a nice mechanical keyboard like the K70 RGB from Corsair.

Lads total noob question here. I am replacing my stock cpu fan with a better one and I'm wondering if I have to peel off the dried thermal paste on the cpu, or just put fresh paste over it? Thanks.

Clean it off using rubbing alcohol, there's paste with the new cooler but its cheap if you wanted to get higher quality stuff

There's a couple alright but they aren't cheap.

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/27Zoll--68-58cm--Asus-PG279Q-schwarz-2560x1440-DisplayPort-HDMI_1014728.html This thing can do 165hz. It's probably hands down the best all round gaming monitor on the market atm.

Clean it off using rubbing alcohol,

While I'm sure it's best practice to do that, I've never bothered. Few wipes with kitchen paper does the trick. The only time it won't is if the thermal paste has literally dried up. Your rig won't explode if you don't use isopropyl alcohol to remove the thermal paste :p
