If your going to a track day you need to be taken out with somebody who knows what they are doing (i.e not some numpty who thinks he is Schumacher). Like everything in life you dont want to start off with bad habits. If your lucky you will find an instructor (like myself) or an experienced racer who will do it.

Yeah that was the plan wth the intro day buy they are off until March. Are there other options? I would be hesitant to just jump into that grip day but maybe its relaxed enough.

Vintage, the grip part of autoheroes was very relaxed, slow cars let you through easily on a straight. There was no racing or madness etc.

It was relaxed and you could go at your own pace.

I am no massively experienced track pro but the next auto heroes is rumoured to be early December.

I'd have no hassle bringing you around for a few laps.

You wouldn't really need it though as you can take your time and new people on Saturday got a sighting lap with an instructor first.

Try and organise going with someone else that's been before. Maybe if a couple of the lads here go again you could tag along. Not knowing what the flags mean, where and how to overtake and general track etiquette will get you pulled quick enough.

Track etiquette is a massive one, I've been to another track day where a slow civic was turning it into a besting match and wouldn't let anyone pass!

Yeah that supercar track day thing I did was hampered by other drivers. My last run out was in the f430 and I got about half a lap to myself. The rest was spent pottering behind another driver who's instructor for whatever reason wouldn't let me past. I said to my own guy that it was ****e and he said nothing he can do, and still only sane amount of laps. May as well have been on a bicycle.

Always wondered what those days were like, wouldn't bother with them as i keep hearing Poor reviews like that!

I'd say sign up and take it easy, build you're speed and you'll have great fun :)

I think I done the same one as vintage and I didn't experience anything like that.

I'd happily go again yea there were some slow drivers but they were automatically moving over soon as I came up behind them.

I really got to drive the cars on and the more comfortable I got with the track the quicker I got.

They didn't tell me to hold back or slow down instead especially the one in the Porsche GT3 RS was really helping me to push it on and find the right lines, by the time I got into the GTR I was flying around the place.

That and how often are you going to get the chance to drive cars like that I got to drive a Ferrari 430, Lamborghini Gallardo, porsche gt3 and nissan GTR.

My only problem is I would have liked more time in the cars

Good to hear Marty, ah the whole supercar thing wouldn't do it for me if I'm honest.
The GT3 RS would ok, I'd love a blast in that but the other stuff I'd take or leave!

Yea admittedly the Lamborghini and Ferrari were a bit underwhelming I expected more from them

The GTR was fun the Porsche was brilliant took a lap to get used to the clutch on it but once you did it was great fun to drive.

If it looks visually ok with no cracking or wear of the sides and it doesn't make any noise on start up then it would be a safe enough assumption to make that it won't snap anytime soon. No point replacing good parts for the fear the car might breakdown. Sh!t happens if the car wants to breakdown it will. Obviously if a part was heavily worn and failure was inevitable in the short term you would change that part. Chances are a 16 year old (I think) Yaris has gotten a fan belt at some stage in its life anyway or the rubber would be cracked at this stage.:

    All true and I agree..

    Cheers

Just fitted the Ford OEM pads to the Focus.

I still have the old A.B.S pads which are in almost new condition. The only thing about them is that they squeal at low speeds. If anyone is interested in a set of front pads for a Focus MK2, let me know.

I'd rather give them away than chuck them in the bin!

I found the experience great, and it was just that, an experience. Not something I would be in a rush to try again as it is pricey enough for the limited time. Think I had 3 laps in 4 different cars. Nutts Corner is like a kart track so three laps takes about 2 and a half minutes.

I drove the Lambo, Ferrari and took the GT3 out twice as I enjoyed it so much the first time.

I hear what you are saying LIGHTENING and everyone should be allowed to enjoy themselves at their level and in safety. However, on my last run the final two laps were spent driving behind another driver at what felt like a crawl. It may have been their first time out and it was my last go etc but I still think the instructor of the car in front of me should have allowed me past. On the other laps this was the norm.

I did find the instructors I had that day great, friendly and encouraging to let you enjoy the car. They try and get you to change up early but other than that I was happy that we were not nannying the cars too much.

Are the cars left stock LIGHTNING? I had always imagined they'd be hampered slightly to avoid the inevitable 6 figure repair bills.

The cars at the supercar event all had racelogic boxes fitted, which I believe is an aftermarket traction control system. I was told that other than that they were stock though. I did not notice a low rev limiter on them, which I had expect tbh.

I got these valve cap things which apparently allow you to monitor the tyre pressure. We'll see if and how they work.

I assume as the pressure drops the green ring drops until you see the red part on the central cylinder.

Ah. That's actually pretty cool, if they work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

I think the green thing should go up at the very top when the pressure is 2.4 bar.

Will they be left on the car long enough to see if they work... they wouldn't around here anyway!

Collected this last night, have it for the next week and a bit until I sort a more longer term solution

    Dodge Charger, 300bhp 3.6 V6 RWD.

Lovely noise off it and plenty of poke, I was surprised to see that it has an 8 speed autobox, thought that'd be too new and modern for the US market :D

The real challenge is how long before some bastard nicks them.

Have you covers you can put over them?

I have just one of those for the past 50 years, its called a pressure gauge.

2.4 bar is a bit high for a Punto on 14s.
    That's around 34 PSI

Correct pressure would be 29 PSI

Do people really still rob them? I had caps on my last car never used the locknuts and never got robbed on me.

That's 29 psi of the top of my head so your bang on. Id say tyre pressure is the only thing I like to measure in psi. I hate when people use it in work. Bar is the generally accepted pressure unit for industry although you can't use either in calculations without converting it into pa. it's a bit like volume I'd always use litres and all you get is blank faces and the question how many gallons is that. You get handy at converting them in your head after a while :)

How does that work with those gauges then? Will it not just show that they're under inflated?
