Just catching up on the last few weeks. I can't stop laughing at the pineapple! A podium is a podium though. Well done! Keep up the good work and good luck with the marathon planning!

It's a very tough regime Anna, you'll have to start base training soon.

BG, you'll need to bulk up if you are to be my wind barrier for 2016 so definitely include S&C.

As a newbie to 400 repeats I think you were a bit easy on yourself, no? Lovely and consistent but you are definitely faster than that as think I'm at those times, when my head is working.

Definitely not P&D, way too hard, not Hal, too boring. Maybe boards plan. Or the Meno plan didn't do Anna any harm ;).

Plan called for 3K pace so they were actually a bit faster than they should have been given my 3K PB. Gotta trust the plan. Besides, I fully expect to be overtaken by you any day now, so not surprised your reps are faster.

Unfortunately yes. Plantar fasciitis that's proving troublesome to shift. But, dare I say it, I think I'm through the worst of it. Exercising caution still with no running maybe for another week or two and then I'll ease back in. Hopefully. Fingers crossed. Please oh running gods. How are you getting on hilly?

    Friday – S&C, Easy + Hill Sprints

Excellent Pilates class with a new instructor as the regular teacher is on maternity leave. Felt balanced after it and getting a lot less gyp from the offending hip and glute now.

Did 6 miles easy on the St.Anne’s trails then went in search of a decent hill for the sprints. Ended up on the stretch up from the coast road towards the Red Stables which isn’t very steep but did the job.
    • 6 miles @ 8:37 (trail, tarmac) + 8 x 8 secs Hill Sprints

    Saturday – parkrun

Half way through the programme so time to test the legs and see where I’m at. Did a short warm up jog with some friends then lined up a few rows back. Wasn’t paying attention (again!) and the gun went off while the watch was still searching for a signal. D’oh. Found this tough from the outset, legs felt heavy and it was hot and humid. First thought running down the first stretch was oh how I wish I hadn’t drank that wine last night. I’d chatted to HelenAnne from boards beforehand and sure enough she blazed a trail by me early on, and off into the distance. Everytime I looked at the watch it was showing a different pace (from 6:40 to 7:20) so I gave up looking and just ran. Naked . Passed one or two girls on the first lap, still finding it tough. Got some great cheers at the half way mark from the volunteer crew which gave me a lift. Just past the dog park on the second lap I saw HelenAnne walking back. Thankfully she was fine and not injured. She advised me to keep pushing as I was in first now. The pressure! Felt the merest hint of FlAbs coming on and focussed on posture and deep breathing to try to get rid of it. I’ve learned from bitter experience that pushing through it can cause excruciating pain that lasts for a few weeks and I’m learning through trial and error how to manage it better. The Garmin later showed the pace drop a bit on the second mile but it’s inevitable, and slowing down helps prevent a full blown FlAbs attack. Within a few minutes I felt fine again and was contemplating how awesome it would be to be first F (I’ve been 2nd and 3rd a few times at parkrun but never first). Still had a mile at least to go and was feeling tired (but motivated!). Turning the corner at the pitches I’d a sneaky look back and saw one of the girls I’d passed still close but didn’t see anyone else (no glasses though, so it was inconclusive). Turned into the avenue and even though it’s only 900m to the finish and slightly downhill it seems so much longer. I was willing the finish line closer, focussing on the guy in front and keeping the legs turning over. With about 200m to go I saw a couple of friends out supporting who shouted ‘Watch your back!’. Feck. Sure enough there was a woman I hadn't seen earlier closing in fast. Time to dig deep. Found another gear from somewhere and made it over the line with just 3 seconds to spare.

I'd forgotten my barcode like a Muppet and the FBOT01 rule states you need to pledge as a volunteer if you want to be included on the results. Fair enough. In case he's checking up I have just signed up for next Saturday :D

That’s the first 5k since before the base building so I was hoping for a better time but without a taper, and still carrying a few extra holiday pounds, it is what it is and I have 5 weeks to try to improve in time for Jingle Bells and aim for the elusive sub 21.

Had a lovely coffee and scone in the café then did a slow lap of the park on the trails to finish up before heading home and into an afternoon and evening of Halloween madness.

ah brilliant!!!! you're just fecking brilliant :D:D what a super result and as anna said, sneaking it in there so modestly. By the way, I think most PR's have that rule, it works a treat :)

Well done, BG! I was delighted to see you in the lead! I'll meet you for a rematch in St Anne's sometime soon :) (For anyone who's wondering, I dropped out to take my inhaler - I have asthma - wasn't doing a Mo Farah by only running half! :))

BG was flying along when I saw her, I don't think there was much of a chance of you being caught at the end, you looked really strong.

Good to meet you & your friend, and isn't the park café lovely? (I was having a running pals meet up there after the run with the Raheny Shamrock Fit 4 Life women; we all started running together in the beginners group back in 2010/2011.)

Jingle Bells is 21:05, so way off that. But regular 5K PB is 21:21 so happy enough given the heat and the holiday excesses.

    Sunday – LSR

Spent a lovely morning/early afternoon in St.Anne’s with BG Jr. enjoying the spectacular weather (and the playground, merry-go-round, dog park, leaves…). Then realised I was going to have to HTFU to avoid running in the dark so did a quick outfit turnaround Wonder Woman style at home and headed back to St.Anne’s via the Howth Road. I knew something was up with the watch when it was giving me 8:30 splits because I was only plodding along recovery style. Then it gave me a 5:40/mile split on Mile 3 (I wish ). So now I was going to have to estimate the mileage and run naked for the second time this weekend . Did one full inside loop of the park and guesstimated the watch was about half a mile ahead of reality, then another loop just taking out the north west corner, as much to avoid the darkness closing in as to try to get home in the required 12 miles. The plan had actually called for the last 20 mins at moderate pace but no sense in attempting that the day after parkrun so I’ll do that next week. Got home with 12.4 miles on the watch in just under 1:50 so calling it at 12 miles @ 9:00.

Had a look at the Garmin route once I’d uploaded and sure enough it had me running through peoples’ back gardens and scaling buildings

Loved running in shorts and t-shirt on the 1st November, even if the park got a bit spooky as the darkness kicked in earlier than expected.
    • 12 miles or thereabouts @ 9:00 or thereabouts (path, trail)

    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 47.2
