I'll give it a week or two after it's release, let the hype fade away and then see it.
Hopefully it's an entertaining romp. Will bring the nephews to see it. Their first time seeing a Star Wars movie.

I enjoyed the original movies as a kid but couldn't get into the prequels and having tried to watch the originals again as an adult I just couldn't take them seriously. I love Sci fi but at my age Star wars seems more like kids movies now.

Watched and loved the originals on re-release. For the new films, it will depend on how the reviews go. Im not that tied into the star wars universe.

Really looking forward to it. I think JJ will create a great film.

Return of the Jedi was one of the first films I saw on the big screen, I couldn't get over how great it was. Still one of my all time favourites.

The prequels were awful with brutal dialogue and look absolutely horrendous today with everything CGI'd ta fúck.

I liked the originals, not to the extent that a lot of people do, but I'll see this since it will be a cinematic spectacle and will probably destroy box office records.

Unless it turns out to be drivel.

Whatever about the 3 prequels, this is just totally wrong.

How can somebody's opinion be wrong? I don't think I've ever heard of any film being free of criticism, even the Godfather.

I still maintain that the worst movie ever made is The Phantom Menace.
You have a guaranteed blockbuster hit, you own the effects company that re-defined the industry, you have the best talent in the industry all vying for a part, you have a whole universe to draw inspiration from, you've spent years digesting how to write the script and story and you come up with such a turgid, mess of a movie.

Other movies are crap because of a variety of reasons, lack of budget or talent being the most obvious but the disappointment that greeted TPM after it's release was palpable.

The lack of Lucas' involvement here can only be a positive.

Until this morning I didn't even know there was a new Star Wars film. So, no, most likely not.

Haven't been to the cinema in over a year.

I intend The Force Awakens to be my triumphant return...... at least this or 'The Revenant', which also looks good.

    No I'm an adult.

    Holy f*ck!

No wonder you've never thanked any of my posts about shapes, colours and rattles.

Will have to bring the kids just like I had to go to Frozen. Liked the originals when I was a kid and still think they are good kids movies. Can't believe so many adults are taken in by the excellent marketing of the franchise to think they are anything more than kids action movies. it really shows the power of good marketing.

    Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Although having said that I don't think it's as powerful as it used to be back in my day.

    Absolutely.

Just got through watching the other 5 in preparation!

Themes of filicide, psychopathy, genocide, insurgency, mysticism, faith, standing up to tyrany...... amongst others are what Star Wars is about.

It's idiotic to consider the mere kids movies.
(Which, if they were, so bloody what?)

The themes of the film are deliberately universal.

Empire Strikes Back is pretty far from a kiddies movie

You can get deep meanings from Tom and Jerry as well.

No, I only like the originals. The 'proper' ones

The hype placed around films these days is scandalous. Having a teaser trailer, an international trailer, a preview trailer and a main trailer and however many more accompany the film is simply ridiculous and unneccesary.

    That's hardly a new phenomenon.

My oh is a big fan of the older Star Wars films and very excited about this one. He already booked tickets for us to see it. So yeah, I'm going to see it. I'm looking forward to it, probably not as excited as the real fans though. :)

Yeah I hope so. I'm going to use one of the rare passes to go to the cinema on my own and leave my wife at home with the child for this.

I saw the first of the prequels and it sort of crapped on star wars for me, so probably not.
I'd agree except that Lucas has his hands nowhere near this one, and Abrams has already proven himself very capable of producing great space opera/sci-fi/action films with his two Star Trek movies.

If he screws this one up for Disney, the rest of the Star Wars series will be straight-to-DVD jobs, and we can just let the whole thing die.

They are great entertainment that have stood the test of time and still hold up today.

As for the new ones, why don't people forget about what happened with the prequels and see what the reviews are like for this?

I'm expecting good things as the director JJ Abrams did a good job with the Star Trek reboot.
Well, it's subjective. I suppose they're aimed at a younger audience and I'm looking at them now as an adult.

Star Wars is an absolute behemoth that transcends into popular culture and every day life in a way no other piece of fiction ever has. It's going to smash every known record in the box office without blinking. This is potentially the biggest film of all time

TPM wasn't the worst of the prequels. I maintain the second one is, because we had that endless drivel around the "love story" between Anakin and Padme (even those names make me shudder) with some of the worst acting, dialogue, and direction I have ever seen.

TPM at least has Liam Neeson in a credible role, was shot on film, has less CGI then the other two, has some epic moments and imaginative sets, and has a fantastic lightsaber duel, the best of the series, which most people tend to forget about.

I'd rather watch the kid Anakin any day over the "grown up" one. The last movie was awful as well, with the way he went from "I hate the dark side!" to "oh ok then" in the blink of an eye.

I'm full of hope for the new one. Just don't expect Luke / Leia / Han to have much screentime. This is all about the new generation.

    Don't give a fupp about sci-fi.

It's not sci-fi - it happened a long time ago far away.
