The full trailer for the new Star Wars film (The Force Awakens) has debuted online.

It's dominating social media accounts, and tickets for the film (in December) have already gone on sale.

The prequels are so generally dismissed, I wondered if anyone would be excited about this new ones, but it certainly seems that way.

So, will you see the new Star Wars film?

I saw the first of the prequels and it sort of crapped on star wars for me, so probably not.

Never seen a whole Star Wars movie, mostly because there so utterly boring.
You know you're being sold a pup with all this prequel, sequel, treacle rubbish?

I love how it's become 'cool' to say "I've never seen a Star Wars / James Bond film" ;)

Anyway, tickets booked I'll be going. The prequels were garbage but hopefully these new ones will be closer to Empire in quality and tone.

The hype placed around films these days is scandalous. Having a teaser trailer, an international trailer, a preview trailer and a main trailer and however many more accompany the film is simply ridiculous and unneccesary.

    I will be in attendence

they fooled me with the prequels and a wise man once said "fool me once , shame on you, Fool me — you can't get fooled again"

The only question here for me is where to find a daycent cinema that still puts butter in the popcorn

    Hate Bond films.

Star Wars are the only blockbuster movies that I get excited for.

Superheros, Batman, the Marvel Universe et al can suck my ass but a Star Wars movie brings me instantly back to my childhood so I will certainly be going to see it.

I have genuinely never seen a Star Wars film and this stage probably never will. You know some people aren't saying it to be cool, right?

Sadly, I've seen some James Bond films. :(

Watched the original 3 star wars about a month ago. They're actually fairly shíte. The newer 3 are complete dogshít. This might be an improvement if George Lucas isn't involved

After seeing what J.J. Abrams did with the Star Trek films I'll most definitely be going!

    couldn't be arsed.
    Don't give a fupp about sci-fi.

I don't know why but I get intensely irritated by how geeky people get about Star wars.
It's just a film ffs, and a kids one at that

Whatever about the 3 prequels, this is just totally wrong.

They are great entertainment that have stood the test of time and still hold up today.

As for the new ones, why don't people forget about what happened with the prequels and see what the reviews are like for this?

I'm expecting good things as the director JJ Abrams did a good job with the Star Trek reboot.

You could say 'it's just a film' about anything or

"David" is just a statue or "The Mona Lisa" is just a painting or "Citizen Kane" is just a film.

Also, Star Wars, whilst it has entertaining aspects that appeal to kids, spaceships, aliens and light sabres etc, the actual story in it is certainly not aimed at kids.

Anyhow, even so, what is wrong with adults enjoying kid's stuff now and then?

oh, I'm sure someone will be along in a moment to 'school' you on how they weren't original, then they'll mention how Lucas borrowed heavily from Kurosawa and Ford......blah........blah......

They just skip over the part that they are great fun :)

    Luke Streetwalker?

I'll give it a week or two after it's release, let the hype fade away and then see it.
Hopefully it's an entertaining romp. Will bring the nephews to see it. Their first time seeing a Star Wars movie.

I enjoyed the original movies as a kid but couldn't get into the prequels and having tried to watch the originals again as an adult I just couldn't take them seriously. I love Sci fi but at my age Star wars seems more like kids movies now.

    Glazers Out!

Watched and loved the originals on re-release. For the new films, it will depend on how the reviews go. Im not that tied into the star wars universe.

Really looking forward to it. I think JJ will create a great film.

Return of the Jedi was one of the first films I saw on the big screen, I couldn't get over how great it was. Still one of my all time favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

The prequels were awful with brutal dialogue and look absolutely horrendous today with everything CGI'd ta fúck.

I liked the originals, not to the extent that a lot of people do, but I'll see this since it will be a cinematic spectacle and will probably destroy box office records.

Unless it turns out to be drivel.

How can somebody's opinion be wrong? I don't think I've ever heard of any film being free of criticism, even the Godfather.

I still maintain that the worst movie ever made is The Phantom Menace.
You have a guaranteed blockbuster hit, you own the effects company that re-defined the industry, you have the best talent in the industry all vying for a part, you have a whole universe to draw inspiration from, you've spent years digesting how to write the script and story and you come up with such a turgid, mess of a movie.

Other movies are crap because of a variety of reasons, lack of budget or talent being the most obvious but the disappointment that greeted TPM after it's release was palpable.

The lack of Lucas' involvement here can only be a positive.

Until this morning I didn't even know there was a new Star Wars film. So, no, most likely not.

Haven't been to the cinema in over a year.

I intend The Force Awakens to be my triumphant return...... at least this or 'The Revenant', which also looks good.

Will have to bring the kids just like I had to go to Frozen. Liked the originals when I was a kid and still think they are good kids movies. Can't believe so many adults are taken in by the excellent marketing of the franchise to think they are anything more than kids action movies. it really shows the power of good marketing.

    Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Although having said that I don't think it's as powerful as it used to be back in my day.

Themes of filicide, psychopathy, genocide, insurgency, mysticism, faith, standing up to tyrany...... amongst others are what Star Wars is about.

It's idiotic to consider the mere kids movies.
(Which, if they were, so bloody what?)

The themes of the film are deliberately universal.

Empire Strikes Back is pretty far from a kiddies movie
