Brilliant series of films - still enjoy them when they're on the TV.

I'm probably doting here with old age, but I thought it was 26 October 1985!

As I say, I'm either pedantic or doting - just delete as appropriate!!

    Lol.

I'm not gonna pretend to be an expert on this - not even seen the movies in years.

Seems in Back to the Future II, Marty came to 21st October 2015

    see http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/what-can-expect-back-future-6660203
Back to the Future Day is nearly upon us.

In 1989 Back to the Future II was released and it saw Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, and Dr. Emmett Brown take a trip to 2015.

October 21st 2015, to be precise.

The Doc, played by Christopher Lloyd, set the date in his rubbish-guzzling time machine, a DeLorean DMC-12 and they were whisked to this very week.

BUT 26th October 1985 does have some significance

    and http://backtothefuture.wikia.com/wiki/October_26

I'm not gonna read up on it too much - gonna wait and see the movies on Wednesday, and it'll probably all make more sense then :D

Oct 26 1985 was where he was coming from.

Thanks, that's what I thought looked likely from the film club above. Like he was going back to where he came from, Oct 1985.

I never liked the name. I know there are different arguments you can put forward but people used to say "Well, he went to the past but then had to get back to the future!". Well, he wanted to get back to the present, unless you mean from the future from the point of view of the 1950s characters, but why would you do that? 1985 (and 2015) was their future but they weren't going there, and they definitely weren't going back there.

I've never actually seen the films. I should probably check them out...

It's very hard to believe we don't yet have hoverboards or flying cars.

Well if it's any consolation, Ireland certainly has no shortage of space cadets.

If you went back to 1955 and wanted to get back to your own time - where would you tell all those 1955 people you were going?

Will the Cubs win the World series this year?

Thomas F. Wilson doesn't get enough credit for his role in the trilogy.

He steals the show for me.

"....you know your history, very good"
"Since when did you become the physical type?!?"

Apparently he actively distances himself from the role & the movies stating they killed his career. He doesn't do any fan events or conventions and won't discuss them at all.

This is what is quoted from him on IMDB:

[on why he no longer signs Back to the Future memorabilia] I've decided to do what I want to do in life, and follow my own path as an artist, so I've decided not to participate in any sort of nostalgia in which I'm marginalized as a pop icon of yesteryear. I no longer support in any way an insurmountable archetype, and now exclusively pursue the things that interest me.

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001855/bio?ref_=nm_dyk_trv_sm#trivia

Strange thing to say that they killed his career, given how busy he's been since.

Will the Cubs win the World series this year?

ESPN: Seven players on the Cubs' 25-man NLDS roster hadn't yet been born when "Back to the Future Part II" was released on Nov. 22, 1989.

Several Casinos in Vegas are now slashing odds on the cubs from opening at 40/1 at the start of the year down to 6/1 & 5/2 after beating the cardinals on the 15th...

I went to see Back to the Future 2 in the old Adelphi cinema on O'Connell St in Dublin with my brother.

I remember walking in a few minutes late and noticing the place was absolutely packed out

Here's an interesting video explaining how Back to the Future predicted 9/11 making reference to the same Directors new film, The Walk, which concerns rigging a wire to the twin towers.

Mention is also made that the Millennium Hilton hotel was intentionally built to mimic the monolith from 2001 a space odyssey. Coincidentally the Freedom Tower has 88 lights, 88mph being the speed the De Loreon had to accelerate to in order to time travel.

Had a watch through it there.

My, people do read a lot into things, don't they?

Almost had me convinced by the end of it.

I lost brain cells watching that. If the pine trees represent the towers, then how come Marty only runs over only one pine tree in the past? *hence "Lone" Pine Mall*

To accurately represent the actual terrorist attack wouldn't both "towers" or pines be destroyed and a new one planted??

The change in name is simply to represent that Marty has still changed 1985 despite fixing his earlier shenanigans before the final reveal of his reformed family. A subtle hint for an eagle eyed viewer.

The second movie merely shows the New York horizon. Not a prediction -- that's what NY looked like at the time. Yes, people in 1985, were aware that the Twin Towers existed. They thought that the towers would still be standing in 2015. Shocking!

That was excellent.. total baloney of course.. but excellent nonetheless.

It's a wonder they didn't shoehorn Zemeckis's Flight into it in some fashion.

Or that in 2000 he had a film out called.... What Lies Beneath!!! Surely this is in reference to the passports that were found in the ruble!

ITV2 are showing the 3 films back to back on Wednesday. That's my day off planned :D

Cubs are 2-0 down against the Mets in a best of 7 to get to the World Series, next three games are in Chicago though.

Probably my favourite trilogy of all time, as good as the Godfather films are, it's heavy viewing, while I could watch Back to Future anytime. Never liked the LOTR films, great scenery but extremely boring

Love BTTF. Remember when the original came out we spotted the queue from the Adelphi snaked all the way back to O'Connell Street. Not wanting to be bothered with this mess we decided to just march in the front door!

Absolutely packed and then after we went to The Goonies in the carlton. Ah the memories.

Incidentally Michael J Fox was at the Golovkin fight saturday. Great to see him being applauded.

Cubs have to win tomorrow night or they will be 3-0 down. Friend in Chicago has the BTTF bet!

Marty only knocks down one of the pine trees leaving the one remaining pine tree to represent the one world tower which was built on the site of the two.

It's also interesting to note that the farmer who planted the trees is called MR. PEABODY and his son is called SHERMAN. When Mr. Peabody first sees the car that knocks down his tree he says "it looks like an airplane - without wings". Interesting that he would say this because the objects that hit the towers also looked like airplanes but one telling piece of live footage by NBC appears to show an object flying towards the North Tower without wings.

Was last years time travelling animation release MR. PEABODY and SHERMAN confirmation that the object that hit the north tower was in fact the advanced anti gravity orb which was accidentally shown in NBC's live footage?

According to the Back to the Future series Mr. Peabody reported his sighting to the police, who believed him to be insane and sent him to the County Asylum the next day. The makers of this film were explaining that anyone who would put forward that 9/11 was an inside job would be labeled as crazy.

It is well explained in the video that if you view the New York skyline from the perspective of the man hanging upside down then the Towers do appear to fall down.

Oh well when you put it like that it all makes sense alright.

Would calling in sick and watching all three back to back and then watching the Champions league match be taking the mick a bit?
    Probably not. :D
