looking at a jag this weekend with a 4.2l and I have a friend lined up who is going to take the engine out and put in a 2 litre diesel engine, similar to the jag on done deal a month ago

Was wondering what the going rate might be for the engine, might just scrap it if its too much hassle

yeah, I was thinking around 2-400 but probably take time to find a buyer so im leaning to just scrap it

    A slow jag!

I like to drive slow anyway, its a waste having such a big engine in it when ill never be going above 50mph

What kind of jag are you putting it into?

Would you not just leave the car alone and let somebody who'll appreciate and respect the car to buy it?

If I was selling that jag and you told me what you were doing I'd be very tempted to refuse to sell it to you on principle.

4.2L V8 jag converted to derv and shod with Landslide NonStick tyres.

Would you just buy a rover instead?

ah lads, lets get over ourselves. the next stop for the Jag would probably be the breakers yard otherwise or rotting in a ditch.

The ditch would be a more fitting end for it than this.

the sign of a true motor enthusiast :) they would rather see an uneconomical Jaguar turn to rot and never be seen again than continue to be enjoyed as a fantastic looking, supremely comfortable car with a more mundane engine.

Unless its from the 1980's or earlier the work to get a diesel engine to actually function in a previously petrol car would be massive, fuel lines, tank, pump, internal and engine bay wiring looms, clocks, exhaust system, immobiliser nightmares.... don't see it being economical for anyone who cant do it themselves

Lol at the outrage caused by this

A 1.9 peugeot partner engine another good donor engine.

Either a Perkins 4.236 with exhaust up through the bonnet, or lpg conversion.

Would you consider an lpg conversion? Probably easier in the end.

    Landslide NonStick
    Ditchfinder
    Curbcrawler

any more good names for cheap tyres?

yes, will have my trustee budget tyres on the car too. Warming to the idea of using the engine as a coffee table similar to top gear.

at least that way people can admire the engine block than it being stuck under a bonnet, imo

The straight 6 wouldnt make such a good table, you would need the V engine to get the hard on.
