Ouch Peter! Might be better off to leave it for today and rest up. See how you feel in the morning.

Did 4 miles at lunchtime but ran them with a guy from work - pace was too fast but legs are feeling fresher on this taper so was hard to resist.

Need to avoid him next week!

Don't force it Peter, your body - and mind - sound like they're telling you something....early night and go again tomorrow. It's amazing the difference a day makes :)

Lovely 6 miles yesterday afternoon, this is my favourite time of year to run. Woke up this morning with the start of a cold. Was at the chemist waiting on it to open this morning to get some Echinacea tablets u people rave about into me.

On the pacing thing I am proud to say I missed no runs and have really enjoyed the training. I have made up my mind to enjoy the experience. The half marathon made me realize endurance running is not my forte. I will set myself in between the 4.30 and 4.40 pacers and give it welly near the end if I have it in me.
Sounds like a good, self-aware approach Emsy. Looking forward to seeing you again afterwards!

6M steady last night and 1M cd... felt pretty good even though it was quite late starting.

Back to my regular Physio today for sports massage. She ignored my achilles, "if you've been able to run the marathon training program then you'll be fine for the 26th", so we're going to look into solving for that in early November (cue cold sweats at the thoughts of that already!!)
Got the once over and she found a couple of tight spots where I wasn't expecting them. Told her that my knees were getting a little sore... so she proceeded to work my quads halfway up, amazing that as she worked the muscles I could actually feel the pain down in my knees!!
Anyway, she says that I am in really good shape for this stage of training and that I don't need another massage before the 26th, but have provisionally booked in one for next Monday after my 9M LSR on Sunday (9M LSR - Ha, t's only a warm up!!)
Walking on air now so really looking forward to my 5M tonight ....

Hi Vis yellow with 'Steve' on the front and this on the back (see pic).

I am just a bit concerned that the Kenyans might try to line up behind me and then I have to break it to them at Dolphins Barn Bridge that I am aiming for 4:00-4:10 :D

Declan Moffitt eat your heart out!!:cool::cool:

This thread is moving along quite fast so I'm reposting these links for those of you who have the good sense to only check in once a day :)

    T-3 link
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=97267923&postcount=5751

    T-2 genl link
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=97345449&postcount=6161

    T-2 Target Talk link
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=97349951&postcount=6183

T-2 STILL TO DO so fire away with any questions:

    - We'll talk about sleep during the week ahead and suggestions for what to eat in the 3-5 days before The Day.
    - We'll be inviting novice graduates to come on board to tell us of their experiences.
    - Those of you travelling/away from home for the first time for a race will likely need some practical advice re hotel breakfasts and the timing of it all so we'll nail all that down early in the week.

Don't forget you can also pop in here for general advice on the practicalities
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=97190065

    WEEK T-1
Next week we'll discuss the 26th from the night before to late on the 26th when we're all swapping war stories and triumphs. The focus will be on you ENJOYING this experience. We'll do a bit of pacing group talk too now that you've narrowed down a target range. Your target(s) might not sit neatly with a pacing group but that's ok. And yes, don't worry, I'll include The Tick List for countdown from the evening of the 25th, including details of the important stuff like where to meet post-race (Mc Grattan's in case you've been asleep for the past 15 weeks) and not forgetting TFGR's post-race bag list.

In case you missed it/forgot, remember what Clearlier said:

    TRUST IN THE TAPER!

"It’ll probably need endless repeating but you have to trust the taper to deliver you to the start line ready to run, during the taper you'll have great days and awful days. You might even feel bad on the start line but you will be ready and ready to run well. One very good runner said that for his good races he always felt awful until about halfway through the race! We’re all individuals."

And of course fire away with anything else you'd like to discuss?

    I highly recommend this:

it's really helping me sleep and stay calm! Especially when my thoughts are all about the day and imagining things and planning, worrying, wondering, making lists, scrapping lists, losing lists etc etc etc. I don't think of any of that with a little white noise in my ears!

I started my training with the ambition of a sub 4 hour. Since then I have had to err on the side of caution due to niggly injuries (mostly calf). With this in mind I am going to run in the 4.30 group, and see how I feel on the day. I had a very pleasurable 8 mile run on Saturday when for the first time I ran with someone. All of my training so far has been on my own. It made a huge difference to me having someone to talk to. The miles went by so quickly, I wasn't even thinking about pace (turns out it was 9:21 pace which is too fast!).. So here's me hoping to get to know all you 4.30ers on the day!

Lads, I'm not feeling 100% today, cold pending, have taken everything to stop it taking full effect. But I'm a bit "out of it", just fuzzy headed like. I'm supposed to be doing an easy 45mins + hill sprints. Rest tomorrow. 40 minutes easy Saturday. 10 miles with 6@PMHR on Sunday.

Also have a sports massage this evening.

If you were me, at this stage of the game, would you run today or give it a miss?

I'd miss it. At this stage, missed training isn't going to hurt you that much, I would imagine versus the damage you could do by running sick.

+1, absolutely, rest will be more beneficial than running at this point, & enjoy the massage :)

I'd head out and see how my body responds and if everything clears after ten minutes keep going, if it doesn't head back. Err on the side of caution but you won't do yourself damage that you won't recover from by the time of the marathon with 20 easy minutes.

Lads, ever night since Saturday I have dreams about things going wrong during the marathon. Last night it was that I had no fuel with me, and had to stop at a shop but they had no jellies just fruit gums (those really hard ones that are impossible to chew!).
Whoopsadaisydoodles, never underestimate the power and longevity of Fruit Gums during a long run!! They are the sweet that just keeps on giving, long after your Haribo disappears into your belly, long after your Wine Gum slips unobtrusively down your throat - your Wine Gum will remain, stubbornly wedged into crevices behind your teeth, defiantly defying digestion by stickily adhering anything inside your mouth.

I've done 140-ish miles in the marathon shoes already so I'd say they're fairly broken in :D

Ha, I am reverting to my old shoes. My new shoes, while comfy-ish, never felt as good as the old ones. I have 900km in the old shoes (600M or so)... so what difference does an extra 26M make :D

Hold on, so were not looking out for red shoes & orange top anymore?? All wardrobe changes must be cleared with the supporters desk :D

Don't use new socks people. I'd even avoid new socks that have been worn and washed.
Made that mistake on a LSR few weeks back, blister city.
