A devaluation as a result of economic forces is a risk. A devaluation as a result of a traver's halting site should never be a risk that you have to consider when purchasing a house.
    it absolutely should
then people like End Of The Road start a new thread /pc rant

i won't be starting a thread on such an issue. and it would be impossible to start a non existant type of rant

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

the pc brigade rabel rabel doesn't exist apart from in the minds of certain types. its a made up term thrown into rants by those types thinking by throwing it in they are being derogatory. the council did their bit in consulting the residents. the only concern is simply they are travelers, that doesn't need to be addressed, as the family are known in the area and the majority don't have any issues. anyone effected by incidents have access to emergency accommodation.

oh no they don't. those of us living in the real world know it

Zero consolation happened with the residents and I'm sure the council thought little enough of the grieving families to consultant with them. After all they allowed them to live in sub standard accommodation with no fire safety standards adhered to. Meanwhile settled people are made homeless because of poorer than standard fire precautions....

Don't be championing the council in this mess.... you look even more unreasonable and trollish

You seem quite aggressive when it comes to the idea that anybody could be opposed to a halting site of travellers being placed in their street. You could probably do with living close to a site like outlined multiple times in this thread, 12 months should be enough to get the full traveller experience. It might change your attitude fairly quickly.
been there done that, my opinion didn't change

    it absolutely should

It absolutely should not. You look at a house and say "that's a nice green area for the kids" not "oh there's a green area... I'll leave it incase travellers take it over"

It's sickening watching the pressure and spinning being exerted by Pravda RTE about this whole situation. They are quite clearly driving the agenda of putting the residents under undue pressure to unfairly accept this situation. Absolutely sickening blatant propaganda spewed by RTE.

And again why should the effected families be treated differently to any non traveller who would find themselves in this situation. If my house burnt down the council would put me up using the standard emergency housing mechanisms. They certainly would not go out of their way to build me specific temporary housing.

The PC brigade are generally centre left, well heeled, educated, possibly with a background in law, live in leafy suburbs, into politics, and ultimately nimbys themselves. The ultimate nimby is someone who goes around telling everyone to accept this or that while at the same time unwilling to accept it themselves.

There should be a rule against asking others to do what you wouldn't do yourself. So all those who want the Carrickmines residents to accommodate these travellers should be asked to accommodate some themselves, in the interests of fairness.

In any case, the Carrickmines residents have been put into a very bad spot by the council and also the media.

The travelling community are the most religious and zealous of all with statues from Lourdes, rosary beads hanging from the rear view mirror to believing that Marys image is on a tree stump.

The biggest crime in all this would seem to be the objection by residents to the PC Liberals who are now telling us all what to do but not what they will do themselves.

I applaud the residents for standing up to this PC Liberal Brigade who have shut down any debate on anything that they think is unreasonable no matter how that might impact on people's lives.

This is sinister, and it's happening all over the place. I just don't understand it myself.

But I won't be intimidated by the NIMBY PC Liberals who call everyone racist at the drop of a hat.

They need a wake up call.

Outrageous, and it's a battle now folks.

That's not a reason to ignore their health but like so many people they turn down provisions just like some homeless people who would prefer not to seek help when it is offered.

I hope it's resolved and tbh it would be nice if the residents are reassured and allow the TEMPORARY site to go ahead.

Alternately could the Southside Travellers Group network the other halting sites to temporary accommodate their Carrickmines neighbours until a new site is ready? - thus saving an existing green field site

so assuming you, as you claim , (ahem) are surrounded by travellers who never ever cause any problem do you also live in a clustered cul de sac , Also and if you had previous issues with the same group would you have still been so welcoming.................

no doubt the answer to both questions is yes but i still enjoy your "answers"

Do you mean another halting site within Carrickmines?

I'm not sure if you do, or in neighbouring areas, but it's been reported that one of the reasons they want to allow them to stay in the Carrickmines area is that one of the four children involved is in the local school there.

Is the council the PC Liberals you're talking about?

The Council are donkeys, with due respect to asses. They used the Emergency Provisions for accommodation, terrified of the PC Liberals and what they might say if they didn't provide Traveller specific accommodation.

Doesn't matter that a settled community would be discomoded. Ah no, feck them, have to make sure that we are right on in our approach here, otherwise we will be called Racists and Bigots. Ha.

So like I said, the biggest crime is being committed by the residents.

It is so outrageous that it is somewhat sinister that the Council are so afraid of the PC liberals that they would ride roughshod over the residents with an hour's notice.

This has to stop. Everyone should have a voice in Ireland, otherwise we are living in a dictatorship.

Can't they go to another place that is better purpose built for their needs then cramming them in with the local residents.

There are a number of acres of land south of Dublin airport that was awarded by the courts 4 years ago to members of the travelling community as they had grazed their horses on the the land for over 20 years
The value of the land is worth millions

Any charity offered by them to their fellow travellers?

The council are being dictated to by "them" and you know who I mean.

You chose to ignore my point about the Council being terrified of the PC crowd. Why is that. Are you a member? lol.

The fact that Travellers have to be accommodated on THEIR terms fortwith is an indication to me that equality of esteem is not happening in this country at all.

Homeless non Travellers are accommodated in hotels and B and B.

Not ideal, I know, I think they should be given a house or an apartment meself, Fortwith, i.e. within a few days. That will not happen.

I was being serious and most likely another site in the general Carrickmines area as they won't return to their former site.
