Asics have a nice online gadget that allows you to create a personalised pace band which you can collect at the expo and a map showing what time you should be at various part of the course.

I have mine stuck up at my desk and at home just to remind me that this is actually happening!

Change of clothes and shoes, towel, stuff to freshen up with. Also chocolate milk, protein and a banana to tide me over until I get to real food.

Money for the pub/taxi home and phone to let my parents know that I survived.

Tracksuits? ugh, you couldn't make more of an effort for us?

For my post race bag I was thinking:

My pair of Brooks arm sleeves, Jacket/fleece, socks, flapjacks, water, small towel, money for pub, leap card for bus home (or money for taxi if leftover from pub)!

Face wipes is a great idea Whoopsa, I'll add that to my list too!

I wore the Nike sleeves for the race rather than the pub. Sure it was roasting so they weren't required for cold but great for wiping dribbling nose :)

    :D

    Starting from the feet up:
Flip Flops to wear for 10 minutes to let the feet cool down!
Spare runners if it is going to be raining
    Fresh socks
    Fresh Undies
    Tracksuit bottoms
Tee Shirt for under the Marathon top if required.
Medal of course gets worn to the pub too!
    Deodorant
'Brut' or 'Hai Karate' aftershave :)

Food is a banana and a Mars Bar... together!
Lucozade or Nunn Tablets with water....replace electrolytes.
    Small packet of peanuts....replace salt.
Dry Towel with bulldog clip to avoid getting arrested for streaking
Vaseline in case of chaffing in delicate places.
    Pain killers....hopefully not needed
Phone and money for copious amounts of Beer and Kebabs (with cheese).
All in a sports bag wrapped inside a plastic bag in case it rains (not good getting out of wet gear into wet gear).

Sign for my back saying ''If found on the floor, please send home to the following address.....'' :D

Just on this bag discussion it looks like its ok to leave phone / money in the bag for dropping off?

If you're prone to dry skin, bring a wee tester of moisturiser for after you rinse/wipe your face. And something to put on any sore/chaffed spots afterwards. A plaster or two will be no harm either. Lip balm. Skittles (they'll keep you alive, trust me)

Hi guys, Dubgal and Clearlier, sorry useless with Google sheets/excel,
Here is a list of training from my 16 week plan.

    7 July 5.5miles
    08 oct 5m
Have not ran since 08th due to hip problem , as always all advice welcome.

I've crunched your numbers a little. In the 93 days between your first run and the most recent one you've run 47 times or approximately every second day for an average of 26.5mpw and have long runs of 20, 20, 18 and 16. Your weekly averages are all over the place unfortunately.

My best pace suggestion is that you head out with the 3:50 pacers with a view to negative splitting but not really picking it up until the 23 or 24 mile point but the best advice is to see how you feel, settle into a rhythm over the first few miles, back off a notch and hold that pace as long as you can.

That moved on to this for me which I thought was a pretty good metaphor for the marathon if you take it out too quickly. If I've linked correctly it'll show you what happens as the wheels start to come off:

I'd bring a whole dry set of clothes to change into if I were you, so you'll be nice and dry in the pub. Many horrible substances can drench you in a marathon! (that sounds dreadful, but I just mean sweat, water / drinks poured over head. I'm sure worse can come out of people in marathons, but lets not go there!)

A guilt free Snickers bar, which used to be called a Marathon Bar back in the day which is quite apt.
