Yeah clearlier, I have it all backed up on plan, what way will I put it on. Just list it??

Anyway that's easy for you and accessible for us. You could upload an excel file within a message if you like or put it on a google sheet and give us the link.

    Haha I deserve that!
But in fairness all the pacers spend 3-4 hours manning the pacers stand each year and one of the most common questions I get is from people asking us is it possible to move up a wave. We'd usually try to discourage them (normally talking to them it's touch and go) but in some cases they should be in a higher wave and the people at the info desk can help in those circumstances.

Meno - remember you offered me your medal at the half marathon because I was sad that they didn't have medals when I did it last year?

If I don't make the finish on the 26th can I have your medal? :D:D:D

it is still possible. The administration is probably easier if you ask before you get your number, and still possible with stickers afterwards - but they will be reluctant to do it because of numbers in the wave

The half medal is now gone...
Would you want the marathon I in those circumstances? ;)

Whoops don't lose focus. Medal isn't the priority. It's all about the top and pints!

Thanks Guys - wasn't expecting so many responses ... and so early in the day, must be getting close!!

OK - 3:45 it is then (its easy to say it, harder to do it!) I want to enjoy this marathon as I want to do more of them but I feel this is achievable..

If I can get up into wave 1 I will try, but won't be too worried if i don't. If I do I will slowly let the 3:40 guys move away from me in the first half, if I am feeling good then I will up the pace for the second half (both of my good 20M runs had healthy negative splits)

Good news - my sadistic Physio (I mean this in a good way!!) has just returned to Ireland and am getting a sports massage tomorrow.

I've just had my first butterflies / adrenaline moment typing this mail - I usually don't get these till the day before a race!!!

Well, its "nail my colours to the mast time". 3hrs 55mins. No more than Nop, I will change it, if it comes to that, but only if events conspire against me. My B Target is to run all of the marathon course. If I can manage that in reasonable shape then I will be happy.

I have pretty well finished the Boards Plan and only missed 1 LSR in week 2 (hols). All other LSR's completed much slower than PMP. Other than that I have just got to 2,000 km this year, which includes an earlier marathon cycle, and failed attempt in Belfast. Have been ultra cautious during recovery in May-July, and all that slow running really helped me along.

    Fingal 10kms 47:02
    FD 10 miles 1:18:01
    Dub HM 1:45:11

After Roebuck I will see how I am fixed and if I have anything more to offer than I will push on.

No matter what, I will definitely be having a go at another marathon.

That all sounds good Denis and looking at your Race times, you seem to have reasonably good endurance; your times to the eye seem to be all very much in line (not much slow down in pace from 10k-HM)

I would advise you and all others targetting x:x5:xx to start off with or just in front the pace group 5 minutes behind your target just to ensure you don't go off too fast. The first 6-7 miles are all gradually uphill anyway so it won't do any harm to stick there and be 1 minute behind at 10k.
Once you hit the downhills after Castleknock you can begin to gradually pull away from the 4hr pace group. That'd be the best strategy to set you up for a strong race IMO.

Ok, have been thinking about paces and times etc and decided my game plan for the day. Based on the questions (mostly which I answered in the positive) and looking at how my own LSR's went I think it's best that I:

Start slow; recovery pace for at least 5 miles (14:40-14:50)
Mile 5: brisk walk to take my fuel (sliver of Clif bar + gel + water) then back to recovery pace
Middle: slowish; recovery pace moving into easy pace for as long as I can, with fuel at 10 miles and 15 miles. (14:20-14:30)
Race: Hard pace from 22 miles to the finish. Smiles all around! (13:40-13:50)

Finish time: well over 6 hours! But whatever the time I'll be darn proud of the achievement!

No pacer group for my kind of time but I'm ok with that.

Hopefully my plan is ok? Anything I'm missing?

Hi TFGR. Haven't been following this log too closely but don't understand why you would not aim to do the marathon at your MP. Are you injured?

No. But all the discussions about just enjoying the race made me think long and hard about it. I DO want to enjoy the day, and I found on my LSR's it was far more enjoyable running my easy pace than my hard pace.

I guess I just want to hedge my bets. I'd rather finish slow then try too hard and DNF!

Not sure I'm being too articulate here...:o

Edit to add: The plan always was to run it slow, it's why I didn't do any MP miles on my LSRs.

I'm a bit all over the shop when it comes to pacing for the day. I didn't do any of the race series. I missed a few lsr's in Sept due to an Achilles injury. During that time I slowly built up the distance to do my 20 mile lsr in 3hrs 26 mins averaging 6:19 mins per km a couple of weeks back.

I felt good at the end of that and was actually able to push myself for the last couple of km. At the end of my other lsr's I never felt too bad and actually enjoyed them. I think I can maintain that pace, 6:19 min/km, for the duration of the marathon. That would bring me in around 4 hrs 25min. Or should I aim for something a bit higher?

Also, I should add (should've said it first really) thanks for all the support with my fundraising! You guys are awesome. Really, you made me cry but in a good way!!

The main thing is, you have to be happy with your plan. You'll probably get a few suggestions/tweaks, I have one or two as well but am out and about right now so will get back to you later if that's ok?
Have you run this by Shona yet?

Thanks for that menoscemo. All my races have involved negative splits and I am aiming for the same for the DCM. Its a confidence thing at this stage due to lack of experience at racing. I used my initial 10km race to target times for the 10 miler and HM to see if there was an endurance issue. So far so good. Will definitely be soft on the pedal until Castleknock and happy to make up anytime on the next section and then back down from Walkinstown Roundabout towards Terenure.

Thanks. Look forward to your comments!

It's pretty much the same plan, just a few ideas I had myself re start and finish that I wanted to run past you guys before I asked Shona about it. The plan was to run the marathon at easy pace.

I guess I should've done it the other way and asked her before asking you guys. :o

Thanks everyone for the company on here the last few weeks!

Forced myself to think time/pace today and get some pacers printed out.

I joined the forum late in the training calendar and was using it more to ensure I got my long runs in that were required. Foolishly I thought this was the most important part of training. I now know it all has to be done. So i never stuck to the training plan really; but I am a busy bee; mountain running, another run, pilates, horse riding all during the week. I managed to do all my LSR runs I think and can definitely see an improvement in those; initially I struggled with cramp towards the end. That's not as bad now.

I ran the 20 mile LSR with the other boards guys and felt fine; enjoyed it. The last half I ran (middle July, but not my best!) - 1:57. So I'm thinking x2 + 20 = 4hrs 14.

My natural running pace - if I don't monitor watch/gps is 8:40/mile - but this is over much shorter distances.

So my thinking is go for 9:40 min/miles. Which would see me come in in 4hrs 13. Start with the 4hr 10 pacer and move back? Or start with the 4hr 20 pacer and move up if energy/legs allowed?

    Thanks
