Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone else lol at the fact they used a woman? Obviously aimed at getting more of us crazy women in the doors of GV. I'm not applying yet, I'll leave it a few days, too much going on. Was the personal statements the same as before?

Exactly the same personal statements as before Mop :)

Newbie here - putting in my application for the first time now that they have scrapped push/ pull.

Does anyone know for sure if they definitely won't be testing it in GV? Or is it just during the recruitment process itself?

    Thanks!

I'm in the next intake and although push/pull wasn't required at PCA, we will still be using it during training. We aren't sure if it's going to be part of PCA at the end but I know I would still like to be in a position where I could pass it (I have surpassed the 26kgf already)

My advice to you would be get yourself fit. Not just for the circuit but also for push/pull because it's still going to be a requirement out on the streets for you to have a decent amount of strength when grappling or restraining someone.

Personally, I really hate the fact they have had to remove it. That machine has been used for over 20 years (I'm told) and something that has clearly worked in the past is being dumped to please the 'diversity' brigade. By the way I am a female!

Ive heard from a friend on the inside that push/pull will still be part of GV life. dont worry too much about it, a good stance is key, i have only done it the once during the 2013 campaign. failed the course by 4 secs but smashed the women's target averaging 32 i think it was

    Well folks.

Good luck to all of you applying in this campaign.

Have humour, patience and believe in yourself.

    Just applied...
Any idea, considering I get in, when the training will begin? I'm assuming May/June 2016?

I began training 13 months after I applied. This was probably average enough on the scale which is probably something like 7 - 20 months.

If all goes to plan then yes that'd be about right. They also take the highest scorers first so depending on your AC score it could be 2016 or maybe even 2017

My goodness. Any idea how the personal statements are taken into account? If you meet the other criteria, is this the deciding factor in selecting candidates for the IST?

In my opinion the personal statements are just to make sure you're not just applying for a bit of a laugh. Who knows if they actually get read? Maybe they do if you get as far as GV.

If you meet the eligibility requirements then you're through to the IST. The IST itself cuts the applicants way down by at least 50%. It is not to be taken lightly so get practising!

If you get the call for GV, can you defer to a later intake?
    Sorry for the endless questions!

There will be much more knowledgeable people than me can answer this better.

I believe you can defer if you have a good reason; getting married, holiday etc. It can be done.

    Hope this helps :)

Provided they're going to do another intake after the one you receive an offer for, yes you can.

Dekkers, nice to see you're still around :)

    Welcome to the party ColourArcade.

At the very least, you're going to be shoulder to shoulder with lots and lots of people who feel every emotion you feel about joining. You certainly won't be alone here.

    Thank you Sheild!

It's great to know I'm not alone on this. Will keep everyone up to date and in the know on the progress. Hopefully I'll see it all the way to Garnerville with a few familiar faces along the way!

    Good luck to everyone again!

All signed up! Has anyone heard anything back regarding an IST date?

  • Registered Users Posts: 301 ✭✭KevBo2015

Don't expect to hear anything regarding an IST date until the application closes.

I would get stuck into the IST prep NOW if you have not already. God awful thing the IST.... so glad you don't have to do anything like it in hotel GV haha.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭Joe789

Probably the hardest part of selection the IST!

My stomach feels tight just thinking about this whole process.... Especially the IST. 😒

the lives of the many disrupted by the actions of the few, While I hold my own beliefs on what Northern Ireland should be I will say If you can't achieve it peacefully its not worth achieving in what is supposed to be a modern democratic country, people still living in that war mindset need to either wise up or ship out

Cheers for the reply bud, Christ the night! Muppets with total disregard to everybody and anybody, and all people want to do is go about their business and lives. Anybody reading this who isn't a member of boards and this has maybe thrown you, as said on here don't let this deter you at all, if we all said sod this! they win! As said before this makes me more determined more than ever, once in, the PSNI is one big family and everybody will have each other's backs and be there for one another, I know for sure when I'm in it will take an army to get through me to harm any of my colleagues, or those that are innocent, and I legit mean that.

Thanks, first in a long line of hurdles.

I submitted mine they day they opened. I assume they process them in date order so if you applied the same day or not long after, you should hear back reasonably soon.

Last year the qualification stage was clearer I don't have English or maths gcse but I have nvq level 2 and 3 in different subject from nwifhe . They are not in English or math. Last year I passed the mark or thought I did. It was a point system and my nvqs got me over the limit of gcse equivalent . this year not so sure as it just says 5 gcse or equivalent including math and English.and when you go to the equivalent page kits less informative. is there anyone here who would have any information that could help can you let me know

    What subject are your NVQ's?

Have you completed any literacy and numeracy Essential Skills level 2?

The nvqs are a level 2 and a level 3 in wood work. It says you may meet the eligible criteria that the qualification must have a certain amount of credits to be equal to a gcse. This section doesn't discuss the nvqs needing to be English or math. It only mentions English when it gives example of how things can add up.
