Happened at 4am last night, fire with multiple fatalities at a halting site in Carrickmines

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/1010/733747-dublin-fire/

    Mod

Several people have just lost their lives in a horrible incident, this is not the thread to have a pop at the lifestyle of the travelling community

Keep any speculation you have about the cause of the fire to yourself

Bringing posts from other threads into this one isn't on either, cut it out now

That sounds very bad. The word 'multiple' is ominous.

Horrible news, no one deserves to die that way. Thoughts are with the families.

Christ, the poor misfortunates. Some of those setups are a disaster like this waiting to happen.

    Horrible. Hopefully no kids involved.

I'm reading on twitter at least 10 dead with a number of kids deceased. Shocking sick reading that.

    RIP.

Unfortunately, arson is quite common on halting sites.

I wonder if this could be feud related?

Could also be a tragic accident. Maybe wait for some evidence before reaching a conclusion or wild speculation.

    It could be.

Or it could be like the many reasons that cause houses to burn down. Cigarette, cooker, electrical wiring etc.

Not sure the speculation helps at this early stage.

May not be arson, may not be feud related? Could just be a tragic accident?

Indo saying at least 8 people including children have died.

    Horrific.

I've been driving past that halting site for years. It was always kept in immaculate condition and with obvious pride. Rip

Does it really matter right now? There's a lot of people dead.

    RIP to all the victims

Hardly reaching a conclusion or wild speculation. I'm simply asking, as a lot of people will be, if there could possibly be a feud angle to this. Nothing more, nothing less. It could well be an accident as you say.

It's a bit like hearing about the Berkeley tragedy and asking were they drunk.

Not wild speculation...merely a bit tasteless...

What a tragic thing to happen. For there to be that many deaths it must have really took off so quickly, sounds absolutely terrifying. :(

If there was malice behind this happening I really hope the Gardai leave no stone unturned in finding out who caused it.

One of the things a lot of people fail to realise about smoke inhalation is that it only takes one or two breaths to become fully unconscious, depending on what has caught fire. It can be extremely rapid.

The fire will be extinguished fairly quickly and its a relatively small area the fire brigade will be able to determine fairly quickly if its accidental or malicious. Maybe give them the few hours before starting comments like that.

A bit of patience is required, nothing more.

Hate hearing of deaths like this. Awful stuff. Hope they didn't suffer.

Not really the same at all. The fire is an awful thing, but people would have concerns that if it were arson there might be more deaths as a result of reprisals. At this point we don't know.

I expect the same level of attention for this as the Berkeley deaths. Half-mast flags on all state buildings, a 133 page thread on boards, media opinion pieces etc

    Good luck with that.

That really helps the situation ffs.

Is that all you care about? Having a little dig at society to make yourself feel superior.

    Pathetic.

Eh, no. Just to highlight that people will obviously treat both situations as equal tragedies.
