    That's my plan!

Just back from 4 miles and toe felt fine and I can't feel it now so panic is over. God, that was a but irrational now I think of it, sorry :o

Looking forward to Saturday's 12 miles now, running somewhere nice for cake and getting the Dart back.

    You love your cake :)

"Taper madness" is simply withdrawal symptoms. All the talk about it simply feeds the problem as like any other withdrawal, the more you feed it, the bigger it gets. It's really not that big of a deal and doesn't deserve all the hype it's getting here or it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

My advice like DG has said is to stop reading about it and talking about it. It's only as big as you make it and it's much better to put that energy into the things you've sacrificed to get here now like spending more time with family and friends etc. Relax, it's not the plague!

Ahm, am I the only one who's loving this taper lark?? Feeling anxious about not running miles and miles - pah!!!

The hard work is done these last 14/15 weeks, I'm loving the (relative) down time and getting really, really excited about M-Day. My focus for the day is to just enjoy the day and get the most out of my first DCM experience!

RE taper time, I am glad I started a college course, fortuitous timing! Gives me something else to focus on!

So, tonight. Ended up having to cover the phones at work all day which meant zero chance of getting up to walk around a bit. Stuck in the chair all day sucked so I decided to get out for a 'whatever' run afterwards to stretch the legs.

That meant this; no worry about timing, pace, distance etc. I took all the immense pressure I've been putting on myself and told it to feck off. I would walk as long as I wanted to, run when I felt like it however fast I felt like and as far as I wanted and to heck with the Garmin (which recorded the run but which had no other use).

    It was pretty blissful!

The only thing, and I mean the ONLY thing, I felt bad about was having to run on the cycle path in the Phoenix Park. It was pitch black and the cycle path (though poorly lit) still had better lighting than the pedestrian path!

I feel pretty good after that. I have a feeling I might actually have a restful night tonight, fingers crossed!

So I feel back on track after tonight's run. I enjoyed it, and what's more, it was a breath of fresh air to allow myself to run without pressure to meet a target pace, or reach a target distance. As I said...bliss!

Edit: What's the best way to run in the dark on poorly lit paths? I don't mean how visible I am but how will I see what's ahead of me?! Head torch?

Getting changed and showered is a problem though - the place we're staying won't offer late check out. Has anyone else any plans for getting showered in or around the city centre? Are there any options? I was thinking maybe a gym/swimming pool I could just pay into and use the changing facilities - anyone any idea if there would be any options like that?

I'm a member of Flyefit on Baggot St. via my work, and noticed that they have day membership for 9 euro. It's reasonably close to the finish line, and you can see McGratten's from the entrance :) - though there are a set of stairs you need to walk up to get in.

Going to a Physio seems like a good idea at this stage.... can anyone recommend somewhere for a sports massage in Dublin city centre preferably close to Grafton street area - thanks :)

For sport massage, I find Eric at The Bodywise Clinc is good. They're just across from Avoca at the bottom of Grafton Street. Can't compare him to others though, he's my first and only therapist! :P

I know that any resistance and weights stuff I've been doing is out for taper after this week but how about Yogalates? It's a mix of Yoga and Pilates - still okay for the next 2 weeks?

If you do Yogalates regularly then keep doing it - maybe not the day before or close enough to leave you tired for the day itself but otherwise keep at it.

As for weights etc. if you have a routine then I'd keep the routine but tapering as the same rate as you do with the running.

Don't think the DCC gyms are open on Bank Hols though ?

I got a speedy reply from admin yesterday. I told them we have less than three weeks to go on this thread and can't be dealing with this glitchiness :pac:
Thread here about it all :)

    Hopefully back to *normal* soon.

Woohoo! So I could switch to lower weights next week and stick to body weight stuff for the week after? That sounds awesome. Then I won't need yogalates as I can stick to my normal core routine and stretching at home.

Lower no. of reps rather than lower amount of weight but otherwise yes.

Anyone know of where I'd be able to buy a reusable ice pack in Dublin city centre? D1 area so I could pick it up at lunch time. My last one last one started to ooze some weird blue gunky stuff out of it!

There's a camping shop on Liffey St - can't remember the name of it

Physio session went well this morning, he was happy with how my knee is holding up and the approach is working well so far.
I will try for the 5 miles run tonight off the boards plan and fingers crossed it goes well. He has advised that I should try the 14 mile off the boards plan on Saturday but to do it near home (gonna be some fine 3-5mile loops going on) in case it gets irritating and then pull out
After the marathon he expects that I will need 2-3 weeks off running but I will be starting a 6 week strength program around the issue during November and will hopefully address the issue for the long term. A lot of that will be based on my calves and getting a bit of pep in my step!
Marking it down now, in my head between the long term endurance benefits from the marathon training and the strength work for my calves and gluts I will break 20mins for the 5K in 2016....current PB is 22:51 so we'll see!
    /notions

In more important news he thinks I should be all good for DCM if the knee holds steady as it is.

3 sets of 5 miles done for the week! Very consistent overall with at 10:45, 10:42, 10:43 average pace. My right calf is a little tight so working that now, but two days off before the 14 miles on Saturday to rest up, following by physio on Monday morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭This Fat Girl Runs

I just copped on...on 26th October...we'll be running 26.2 miles. 26 on the 26th? There's something in this right?! I choose to take it as a good luck sign!

    :pac: :D:):p:o

The first one is spread over 5km so it looks a lot worse than it is. The one at 22 miles is supposed to be the trickier one, as you'll be fairly tired, but it's all downhill after that. I ran some of that first hill for the half marathon, and it's fine, and TFGR does it the whole time, and she doesn't seem to find it too bad!

I hope you don't mind me saying so Steve but that diagram is about as useful as a chocolate teapot :D

Glad to hear that the body is back to normal today. Good luck with the run on Saturday.
