Best 2 litre diesel car in the market

    I am thinking of upgrading my car to a new 2 litre diesel for next year. Still actively doing the research; but these are the cars shortlisted for now:

    1) Skoda Superb
    2) Toyota Rav4
    3) Volkswagen Passat

    I am thinking of going for PCP option.

    Is there any other cars I missed? I just would like to know considering depreciation and the value which is the best car out there. Please also comment if buying a new car is not a good idea?

    I consider both saloons and SUVs. Since Rav4's fuel efficiency is good, I put that also in that list.

    I can't see the rav4 hold on as much value as the other's. I'd imagine they'll replace the 2.0 engine with the bmw 1.6 engine soon.

    Thanks - that is a valid information. Does it mean they wont have a 2.0 diesel option in 2016? I was under the impression that depreciation is low for Rav4.

    rav4s used to hike their money well but the qashqai is the depreciation daddy since 2007

    Had a 2011 Ford Mondeo 2 litre diesel - one of the nicest cars I've driven and I include audi and bemmers in that.

    Hardly going to have low depreciation though which the OP wants. Mondeos traditionally suffer big depreciation.

    Not a 2L but I would include Honda Accord on that list, ultra reliable (in my experience) and 50+ mpg

    No, boards talk make people believe that. Same car, Superb is a slightly stretched platform, making the car 9.4 cm longer, or 5.0 cm longer wheel-base. Hardly "much bigger"! Handy for rear seat space if the front folk are tall.
    I'd go with the Passat Highline. Great all round car.

    You will not get 50+mpg from the i-DTEC Accord diesel. Mid to late 40s is probably as good as you will get unless you drive like a granny.

    I can't see anybody giving the accord a high enough gmfw to make PCP affordable. It'll be discontinued by the time the term ends.

    An i-DTEC?
    Can't be done IMO.

    An i-CTDi?
    Plausible.

    It will also be an absolutely ancient design.

    Having said that, at the moment secondhand values are incredibly high, especially for the EX models.

    Dealers still have a good few of them new unsold despite them being no longer made for the last 8 months.

    There is a new global model accord spirior supposedly on the way, but no word on whether Europe will get it.
    The trend is away from non premium large saloons.

    Honda have no plans to sell a new Accord in Europe again anytime soon. They don't even offer the Civic is saloon here anymore either. They seem to be concentrating on crossovers and small SUVs now. HRV is making a comeback to rival the Nissan Juke.

    Just thought I'd share my view as I've drove the new Passat and Superb in the last week, the Passat was 151 Comfortline and Superb was 152 Style, The Passat I thought was lovely to look at and interior was well finished but a complete bore to drive and unless your willing to spend stupid money on extras it had no wow factor for what your spending, it was the 1.6 tho so I'd presume the 2.0 is allot better, but with the price I bet 95% of new Passats will be 1.6.

    The Skoda on the other hand although 10k dearer than the Passat I drove had everything, lovely on the road, very well equipped and finished. We were actually giddy getting out of it, it left that good an impression, after driving it I feel Skoda is entering a new era and would recommend anyone thinking about one to just go for it, styling imo is in a different league to their old stuff.

    You should have driven a fully loaded Passat as well.

    Yes I wouldn't doubt it's would be a fantastic car fully loaded and with the 2 litre but your pushing 50k then while the Superb was around the 38k mark, doesn't make sense to me unless u feel it has to be a Passat!

    Where are you getting a fully loaded Superb for 38k? A 2.0 TDi 150bhp L&K Superb starts at just over 40k, and that's before you start ticking the options list. The days for buying Skodas 10k cheaper than VWs are well gone.

    It won't cost you 50k to match the Superbs spec with the Passat... There's cheap packs at the moment and it would come in and around the same price.

    So the 10-12k saving doesn't really apply.. I'd go with the passat any day of the week at the same money.. Miss my 2.0 170 sport..

    Sorry, yes your correct, but it had everything you'd actually want, to get the Passat with roughly the same spec would be 47-48k it was painfully obvious in the Passat when you haven't selected an extra as there's loads of empty black plastic buttons, it highlights what you didn't get.

    Why so that? Thinking of trading in my own EX as baba no. 2 on the way. plus I've lost all my crown hair lifting number 1 in and out of the back door!
