Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yep, I've seen it. And the mongs have started commenting too. I've heard a few people criticising the starting salary too so that may put some people off

I'd work for half the starting salary just to be in a job I'd love!! Lol I'm getting so desperate now. I just really wanna be in it. And I really wish they'd get processing the rest of the 1405 list! I dunno about anyone else but I just have this awful feeling that they'll do the same again...it's disheartening :(

Is it really bad I check boards before Facebook now. This is getting ridiculous now, ah well you're a more interesting bunch of bloody nutters than the Facebook friends anyway. Besides you're all twisted enough like me to go for another torturing session lol. Must go have a nosy what they're saying ;)

OK, so they are starting a fresh recruitment campaign but don't know if they can afford it. Being really selfish here, why can't they exhaust the current merit list first, why spend a fortune setting up more ISTs and ACs.

Seen this in the paper today myself Dee, the interview seems to be a bit dated as the number quoted is higher than what is seen on the strength of statistics section off force numbers on the PSNI website and it was last dated July 2015 with less than quoted on the article and I believe they have deliberately not updated the numbers since July as I have heard a lot left over the summer and maybe their trying to not alarm the public of how much they are down to, just my opinion. The new campaign is to get recruitment going again in terms of when they take the number from this campaign whatever that is which from what I heard will run into the summer in terms of people and squads going into garnerville, by then they should have the first squad ready from campaign 3 which I reckon will be sometime maybe summer or this time next year, bear in mind this third campaign was to start back in Jan 2015 so this is nothing new to us.

Nothing seems to make sense to us at times but we grin and put up with it cos it's the dream job my lovely. No one wishes they'd exhaust a merit list more than me ;) Think on it like this, at least it's another shot at it! You could score a cracking good AC and be one of the first through the door of hotel GV in June/July if things don't work out in C2 for you.

Urghh I started a masters as didn't think the PSNI or the Gardaí would be recruiting soon. How long do the panels usually last for with recruitment?

  • Registered Users Posts: 313 ✭✭Catdog33

I'd say even if you score really really high 80+ You won't be in GV until next summer at least

Is there a number I could ring from the south to query about the recruitment, just a few questions I have and would like to get a formal answer

don't personally know of a number but why not ask your questions here chances are somebody may know the answer or where to find it

  • Registered Users Posts: 2 E16

Hi Dunner515.. As Ivan suggested i'm sure someone might be able to help with info from the boards or you could always attend one of the information days and maybe get speaking to someone after if they didnt cover your question, just an idea!

Information sessions will be held on Saturday 10th October 2015.

Sessions will commence at 10am and will take place every hour, with the last session at 3pm, at the following venues:-

1st time applying, have a quick question. It's my understanding that on the application form you'll have to write 2 short personal statements (motivation, suitability), my question is what is the max length of these statements with regards to word count? I just wish to prepare them in advance

Lol I can't remember if it was 150 or 250 words, probably the latter

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭Homer01

They may be worded differently from last time but this will give you an idea.

Why are you interested in becoming a police constable? (150 words max)

Outline the skills you have and how they meet the requirements of the role of a police constable (150 words max)

That's them!!! Did you remember that it did you have that saved somewhere? I remember cursing the computer cos I had 150 exactly and it wouldn't let me submit the page. I had to figure out which word to delete without effecting the grammar. Bloody thing. Aim for 149 Mr Black

    Need to find mine :-/

How'd most of yous find the application process the last time round?

  • Registered Users Posts: 50 ✭✭panini

Prepare yourself for a long wait...

The individual sections of the process were alright, it was the uncertainty, confusion and length of time in between that were the most difficult thing to deal with.

Does anyone know if you can still apply when the applications start again on 30 September, if you're already going through the process for a previous campaign?

I just don't want to put everything on me definitely getting through this time....

You sure can! I was in last years campaign and applied for this one when it opened :)

Thanks Catdog! I shall do that then :)

I'd say you're not wise in the head if you didn't apply for C3 as well as continuing with C2. Also if in some strange universe they open a 4th campaign and you haven't got a call for C2, apply for that too.

Two days to go before this l process starts again. Ye-ha ;-)

Has anyone any idea on intake numbers?

There you go folks, there's the new ad they've done too on this link. Asks if you want to make a difference, and a career that changes and challenges, yeah we do, but what it doesn't say is there is still 500 people waiting on hearing something from campaign 2 and that the process to become a student PSNI officer is the longest in the world lol. Also the new pca video is up on the psni YouTube channel, it's just the old video edited.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭Homer01

They might have made a new one. Still got the old push/pull machine in the background lol.

I suppose that'll be up on ebay soon enough!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭Homer01

Just heard on radio they are looking for 250 new officers in this campaign.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 972 ✭✭✭Goonerdee

Taking on 51 officers every 5 weeks, is that for the new campaign Dee? or in general? unfortunately I tried to listen through the internet but their server is down :(

I should probably already know this but it says 22 weeks in GV on the UTV website. Is that right? I thought it was less because we done the online learning at home now?

Gonna fire off an application again today too just in case. Though I'd be hoping for a call in the next few weeks. (Crosses fingers and toes)

Well it's been a long time since i got myself caught up in this but have decided to give it another go.

It seems some things have changed in the process since my last attempt and a requirement for 5 GCSE's has been added. I have read a bit of the FAQ's but I'm still not sure so thought I'd ask here in the hope some kind soul could answer for me.

I have 4 GCSE's (including a B in maths and english) as well as a BTEC national diploma (supposedly equivalent of A-levels). Does anyone know if this would be considered enough to qualify?

Please try not to laugh at my measly qualifications, i was a willful teenager who thought they knew better than those who knew better.

Newbie here - putting in my application for the first time now that they have scrapped push/ pull.

Does anyone know for sure if they definitely won't be testing it in GV? Or is it just during the recruitment process itself?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 Typhoonf2

Guys was reading through the guidance notes and it looks as if April/May on wards is when they will be looking for people to start trainng

I got the impression this was in general so hopefully they get through everyone currently stuck in limbo.

That would be one to ask at the familiarisation event. I think they would still make use of it as it is a good simulation of grapple.

I had been told this through the grapevine, that they planned to take on 51 a week every 5 weeks up until the summer of 2016 for us stuck in no mans land, and by then the first squad from campaign 3 would be starting if that makes any sense, cheers Homer anyway for the response. If they say 250 is what the aim for this campaign I reckon it will be more, the rates of retirements and natural wastage is quite high and will continue to be for quite some time.

Thanks, Homer, I'll make sure I get along to one to ask that.

About 99% sure I'd fail it so here's hoping it's definitely gone!

Anyone else lol at the fact they used a woman? Obviously aimed at getting more of us crazy women in the doors of GV. I'm not applying yet, I'll leave it a few days, too much going on. Was the personal statements the same as before?

I reckon they'll still include the push pull as part of your training at hotel GV

Meeky I'd give 101 or Deloitte (are they doing the start of the recruitment like last time?) a call just to double check but if it's the equivalent I couldn't see there being an issue, they take different qualifications from folk in the south which are the equivalent to GCSEs so in my opinion they couldn't refuse.

Am I being totally daft, read the article Highbury posted. IST to test how you respond in an emergency?!?! How did the last one do that :-/ or are they changing it?

Good luck to everyone applying or still going through the process of C2, it's a tough old wait but it will be worth it. Remember don't be suffering in silence and stalking boards, if you have a problem or question stick it on here, if it wasn't for boards and knowing everyone else was going though the same thing I'd have been bouncing round the padded room a long time ago lol!!!

Can't believe it's started again aarrgggghhhhhh

There's the clip folks, I really like ACC Mark Hamilton, the guy just talks as a normal human being good job! Also I'm happy with numbers etc especially with us in campaign 2 still awaiting, 51 every 5 weeks up to May sounds good to me.
