850 miles (old money) done since this day last week, around 1200 since it was last washed, have to say the grey hides the dirt fantastically imo, if it wasn't for the wheels, the car would look clean :) car hasn't missed a beat either *touch wood.

indeed it was a simple case of doing the maths.

2 weeks ago was my first week at it, was a bit of a shock going from ~100 miles a week to ~850 a week, going from a fuel spend of €30-40 to a spend of more like €150.

doing the maths, the Celica is doing low 40's MPG wise and this week has cost €135 in fuel. if I had a petrol car (Prius etc) that could do 50mpg, I would be looking at saving €30 a week (€105 fuel spend per week) or if I had a diesel that could do 50mpg I would save €40 in fuel (€92 fuel spend per week).

knowing i'l be doing this mileage until next May at the worst, i'd save €1440 in fuel if I went to a 50mpg diesel. now, €1400 + the Celicas value (maybe €1500) wouldn't buy me a very good car, so i'd be doing myself out of an absolute hape of money if I spend even 3 or 4 grand going to a more modern conformist diesel car.

biggest downside is 3500rpm @ 120km/h in a Toyota designed in the 90's. it's exceptionally noisy! reasonably comfortable though, no aches or pains etc. the economy sweet spot is more like 105km/h @ 3000 rpm anyway, the car seems to sit very naturally there.

    /yarn over. :D

    edit:

Looks awesome Foxhole. personally, I couldn't drive the car after that, too much OCD going on :P. thought i'd bump into you the other night, went to get fuel in Ballincollig, ended up in an Applegreen though.

Why do you have a wheel under a wheel, FN?

I degreased and deoiled the underneath looking for a leak, which turns out to be a small gearbox leak which hopefully explains the lag so that'll be getting looked at next week.

All I know about wheels is that they're usually round :P. Suit the car way better I think.

What can you say when a friend does it!
I never lean against anyone's car but my own the very odd time!
