It's somewhat larger stablemate, the RG500 Gamma, was a 500cc square-four two-stroke with a pair of counter-rotating cranks. It wasn't, umm, quite so economical. :D

A tad, yes. Mostly a case of light the touch-paper and hold on for dear life.

What % of first year students has 5000 euro to blow on a car?
The figure I guess has been derived from the cost of a years rent in Dublin. It's massive money to rent now, €550 to €650 a month and you have to sign the lease for 12 months. So PCP on a car or buying a car for €5k is much cheaper over 4 years.
That or just buy a house and rent out the other 3 rooms!

 You've contradicted yourself there and stated exactly why for so many people, it isn't a stupid system.

Well I suppose I have and haven't. My point about it is these people end up being in debt long term for their new cars ie never pay off or own it. Which paying car loans long term I think is a bad system. Surly people would be happier with slightly older cars that they could own after 2-3 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,972 ✭✭✭Chris_Heilong

But they are paying hundreds every month that they could have in their pockets if they opted for a 2nd hand car that they actually owned and could do with what they pleased.

I think its a bit of a scam also, its attractive to people who want it new and now regardless of if the numbers dont add up, but it is a vicious cycle and turns all cars into disposable objects so I can see why the general public dont care if they ding your P&J in a car park or they view 10 year old cars as being "really Old".

But the vast majority of people can't afford to just dump a load of cash on a car in one go so they'll probably be getting a loan for it anyway. If you told someone that for the same amount each month they could get a 2008 Focus that after 3 years they'll owe nothing on, or a brand new Focus that after 3 years they can trade in for another new car for similar money of course they're gonna take the second option.

Using the same logic no one would ever rent houses.

Very few people actually want to rent houses. Similarly, anyone with a basic grasp of arithmetic would shave their own head with a cheesegrater before going near any sort of dealer finance.

Surely it must drive down second hand prices as it gets more and more popular.

Yay if you want an abused used clattery diesel I suppose.

PCP on a house - after 3 years trade it in an upgrade to a new house. You'd be living in a mansion in no time :pac:

...Why though? Any of the interest rates I've seen offered by the manufacturers have been considerably better than those offered by banks.

That's as may be. But people are handing over about five grand a year for the privilege of driving an over-priced, under-powered appliance who's DPF will gum up like something out of Pompeii and who's DMF will explode. :D

But the advantage of doing that means you won't care, it'll be under warranty.

There's a pattern starting to emerge here. I wonder if trucks are similarly afflicted, i.e. people who work hard for a living and expect their equipment to function properly and earn it's keep. Or is this another of these things that Paddy-Go-Backwards civilian puts up with because he's been duped into thinking he's away for slates, while Günther breaks his hole laughing at him? :D

Euro 6 compliant trucks are apparently a nightmare. All the Euro 5 remaining Scanias were bought up by the hauliers to avoid the new Euro 6 ones. So not only cars are choked to death by emission reducing crap in the system.

Mmm. Check out the "Wave" concept truck, powered by a microturbine:

Sh1te... I need two front tyres. Tracking was off and they wore pretty bad on the inside. Will have to get them replaced and keep an eye in future. How often would you get your tracking done/checked?

About every six months. I got caught similarly a few months back though - the car started eating the front tyres, the nearside one in particular. It turned out one of the track-rods needed replacing.

Ah sure these discs have at least another 2000 miles on them. :pac:

My estate is full of those little "bolt-on" speed bumps so I'd say they don't help. Garage didn't mention any issues with the suspension other than tracking. Will speak to them later.

Once it's done right? By someone who knows what they are doing? Never again until I notice unusual wear or something is replaced or adjusted in suspension.

There are more jokers out there than people who can actually track a car properly.

I'm always lucky, as soon as I get the tracking done I WILL hit something within a week and usually hard enough to destroy a tire and warp the alloy.
Once it even bent a tie rod end, so it couldn't even be adjusted.
    Lousy backroads in Ireland.

    Lousy backroads in Ireland.
Even if you have enough suspension and sidewall to handle the road you'll be limited y those who are in denial about the irish road network.

The worser the road, the worser the local felters. Clown in toledo had us at funeral cortege pace on the morning commute. Awesome lad awesome, doesn't get much cooler.

There are two really bad spots on the way home from lit and every single day I meet a car coming in the other direction at exactly the wrong time so I can't swerve out to fully miss them. One on the way in and one on the way out. Every single time.

I have a second round interview tomorrow so I'm preparing for that no real car news that I can think off other than the fact I need to get oil tomorrow. Would there be many motor factors that stock elf oil or many be I should just save myself the hardship and go straight to main dealers.
