Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So they're very small intakes so?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭HighburyLad

Last campaign varied from 20 to 40, this year seems first intake was around 36 and the plan seems to be around 51 a squad as stated around the forum, if you were to compare it to say Templemore, not particularly big were an intake there is 100? I think? You'll be able to keep me right, but garnerville would be I would say a quarter of the size of templemore structurally, if even.

Jays so there is a better chance of getting the Gards than the psni so....anyone on this going for it??

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭HighburyLad

We're all on a merit list of about 800 odd people, there could be anything from 230 to 500 places up for grabs, due to the financial uncertainty here who knows, a new recruitment campaign is opening up in a few weeks. What about you lot what's the craic there? I think you have all done your stage 2 am I right? Seen the justice minister announced a minimum of 500 gardai to be recruited in 2016 I take it that's from the folks who have just done stage 2?

  • Registered Users Posts: 210 ✭✭Wannabegarda

As far as I know ya. Done stage 2 and waiting for te results for that. I might throw the hat into the ring for the psni aswell as a back up but I felt I did well in the ist so hopefully I'll get to stage 3 sooner rather than later. There's another group of people doing it next week so that's more competition as far as i know. Just tipping around in the station as a reserve doing what the SIC wants me to....btw if anyone lives near the border areas put in an application for the reserves cause there's talk that reserves will have their own recruitment campaign in 2016for full time cause I know there's no specials on NI

Good news! Though hopefully I get a call sooner rather than later and won't need it! Lol

Wondering if it will be the same assessments as the last campaign!

Its open up until the 23rd of October is that quite long? To me that seems to be pretty long? What do I know mind you but it just seems longer than previously

Edit: By the way not complaining haha, the psni application is like 1 A4 sheet of basic details and that's it compared to most that have a paper sift could be open for a week to get the ball rolling quick lol ;)

I never thought I'd be back posting again but glad to be back.

The last two campaigns got me to AC but that's where I lost it.

Roll on the next couple of years of tests, ups and downs. Maybe this time I'll make it to Hotel G :)

Welcome back! Good luck with the new campaign opening and if you struggle with the AC perhaps look into training sessions? No shame, I went to one and found it very helpful, even if it added 2% to my score well worth it.

Thanks Kev, my second AC did improve a fair bit over the first one. With a lot of practice, experience and bucketload of luck I might even pass this time.

Of course we need to pass the dreaded candidate slayer, the IST!!

Anyone else in the same boat?

Does this concern anyone? i.e. Potentially joining an organisation with such low morale.

Personally I think any organisation will have reported low morale in some way especially public bodies. While I recognise the many challenges within the role I personally foresee more ups than downs.

You want to swap places with me?!? :P

I'm still going for it. It was only completed by 40% of the force, I'm not being naive cos I know there will be the crappiest of days but it's like everything else in this world, it will be what you make of it :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭HighburyLad

It's these massive budget cuts that's going on and the PSNI is constantly having to change their budgets throughout their financial year which is just madness.

How is any business supposed to plan ahead when their budget is constantly up and down, this country and politicians that run it couldnt organise a p1$$ up in a brewery, and they feel they can dictate terms with social welfare etc, the rest of the United Kingdom must be exasperated with our bull.

Therefore our public services are gonna suffer for others incompetence. I'm not surprised with the morale, I kinda feel sorry for them as they're doing a thankless job under extreme circumstances and don't get the necessary support they really should from politicians and the public. This sorta stuff never deters me, once I'm in I'll do all I can to chip in. Us young bloods will hopefully make the burden that bit easier, or maybe drive the senior ones up the wall lol.

  • Registered Users Posts: 313 ✭✭Catdog33

It just makes you think we are all busting a nut to get in and I'm super excited and enthusiastic about it, to read then that everyone's hating it- makes you wonder lol!

  • Registered Users Posts: 50 ✭✭panini

I heard about the report this morning, it doesn't really put me off because compared to my current job it's still a massive step up.

Fingers crossed that recruitment over the next couple of years lifts the burden at least a little across the force.

It doesn't help that our politicians are the most pathetic in the western world and I think the PSNI suffers because of this.

Nope. Think they only acknowledge after they have reviewed it then a few weeks later it's the invite to IST.

I've been looking over my results from the last two AC's. If the trend continues I should definitely pass :)

With my luck I'll fail the IST! Time to do some 11 plus past papers lol

The only time I ever came out of the IST confident I had done well was the only time I failed it.

The IST takes no prisoners. All we can do is practice and hope for the best.

Getting used to all these TLA's again lol

The CC of the PSNI announces 1509. We have to pass the IST, the AC and the PCA do be in with a hope of getting to GV.

I'm sure I've missed quite a few out and I know it gets a lot worse once you're in.

Guys i think ill be taking a pass to it this time. The main reason is I dont know like ye know what the situation is up there security wise and i kind of nervous about my own personal safety as i am not a northerner. The second reason is I think i messed up my garda application and i dont really feel motivated enough to start straight away into another police application process. I need a break if is shows i a unsuccessful with the gards and focus on other areas.

Totally understand what you're saying, fortunately I don't have those issues you do but why don't you apply anyway? I know you're feeling disheartened about the Garda application maybe not going your way but IF it doesn't and you haven't applied for PSNI you'll maybe kick yourself for not having applied. I seriously think you should apply for PSNI and if you're still feeling like it after the closing date or in the run up to IST you can always withdraw from the process. Give it a go and see how you get on.

Possibly message shield about your security concerns?

As has been said to you numerous times, there are LOADS of southerners in the PSNI. There are 3 other 'southerners' in my section alone ! Even 1 from Cork...unfortunately...ha

Oh god... the dreaded IST. I am glad I am not having to do that again. Utterly relentless and just obliterates half the people that apply.....

    Good luck!!

Anyone seen the tweet from @SurryPolice? #BTTF2015 and folk think police don't have a sense of humour. Tbh I reckon it would be the only keeping you going in the job at times.

Saw this one on Ayrshire's page

    PAST ARRIVES IN AYRSHIRE

About 0728 hours today, Wednesday 21st October 2015, police received reports of a suspicious vehicle causing concern in the car park of an Irvine supermarket.

Witnesses report the stainless steel DeLorean vehicle to have been damaged and two men to have been within the vehicle. One man is described as being around 17 years old, slim build with dark hair while the other is only described as being older with grey hair and wearing a white coat.

A spokesperson for Ayrshire Police Division commented "on arriving at the location the vehicle almost collided with two members of the public on hover boards. Luckily the hover board' collision avoidance system prevented any injuries. We are keen to speak with the two men seen within the vehicle."

Anybody watching Cuffs on BBC 1?

It's a cop drama based in Brighton. One of the PC's is a newbie (and the CC's son).

I thing of note is they are wearing body cameras. Are these standard on the mainland?

Can't say I've seen it, and I'm not sure about the likes of police in England and Wales, however I know (specially trained) officers in psni who are permitted to wear body cameras in the likes of riots etc. Can be used as evidence to justify the use of force etc

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭Mop a top

It might be, not entirely sure but that's how they were prosecuting the guy who seriously assaulted a WPC in England, he was cuffed to the front and in the back of the car but he still got out and did some damage to her. Seen it ages ago on Facebook/YouTube. I'd have no problem wearing one, pity they need too but at least it's always there to back up the officer if there's been any allegations made.

The CC's report to the NIPB mentions the procurement of 2500 body worn video could become more and more common on beat officers in the next few years

    • Body Worn Video (BWV)

The Department of Finance and Personnel has approved the PSNI’s business case for the introduction of Body Worn Video (BWV). The procurement process has been initiated and the technology is scheduled to roll out in early 2016, with an estimated completion date of June 2017.

The project represents an investment of almost £3m over a five year period. This will allow for the procurement of around 2,500 cameras and also the supporting IT infrastructure that is necessary to facilitate the storage and movement of the associated digital technology.8

When the project is complete in June 2017, BWV will be standard kit for officers out on patrol. BWV provides a mechanism to reinforce accountability and build public confidence in how police deal with people, especially in the most contentious encounters. Evidence from a number of studies has indicated that BWV shapes behaviour. It is also anticipated that BWV will support domestic abuse investigations.

Not sure about other forces but they've been on trial in a few parts of the Met. Everyone is getting one next year. Then again everyone was supposed to be getting an iPad too...

Absolutely terrible, how some people are able to commit such attacks really confuses me, what's going on in their heads? Friend of mine is just back from Paris at the start of the week, think she's in shock that something like this has happened 3/4 days after she has left the country!
