I will be having some poker nights in my house,

I got 500 11.5 gram clay casino poker ships from the US, well they are on the way to me, should be here soon,

they are in a nice case,

If people are interested in a few games let me know,

I have 400 chips I got in vegas last year. So if we pool together we would have enough for 8 - 10 if needed.

I'd be up for a poker night alright, would be good craic.
However, being a complete novice, I imagine I'd lose my shirt.

Hyzepher mentioned Texas hold-em, I think it would be best to stick to 5 card draw though. Keep it simple.

Note to self: must rent out Rounders again.

See the way I look at it is this:
We could kinda run the night ourselves and all but why not let the pro's sort it all out and we turn up and play.

42 people x25 is 1050 of which 550 comes back out in prize money. Now since the lads must have 7 dealers working that night thats about 80 notes each for an evenings work... seems reasonable.

To get at *least* your cash back you only have to win your table (therefore getting into the final).

You can merge tables as the night moves on-it may speed things up
eg if you start with 7 tables of 6 ,then 4 of 6 etc
final table are in the money

The game they play on Late Night Poker would be the easiest to play and also the most fun.
I'd be up for this too. Not that I'm any good, but if it's done properly it's good fun.

I think this is the way to go for our first outing - put the organisational pressure on someone else until we see how many regulars we can get.

Now all that is left is to sign up at poker.ie and see how many we can get for the next night.

If you are interested sign up at www.poker.ie

Just went to the site to sign up but it isn't that straight forward. There is no online registration and the printable form doesn't give you an address to sent it to.

I emailled the guy in charge - Con Ward - and asked him to come back to boards.ie and answer any questions we might have.

Yes, you can get them in that wee shop that sells odds and ends for the house behind the Carphone Warehouse in Liffey Valley. I cant remember the name, but you can get full poker sets there.

Special Days is the name, just remembered.

I think we could easily gather 42 people for a night on our own. I think thats a better way of doing it then trying to get us all signed up on the site...

Good man DMC. Cheers. Now to go all the way to LIffey Valley.

    Ugh.

DeVore, I dunno I reckon that gathering 42 interesteds wouldn't be too hard, but getting 42 to agree on a night and actually turn up cash in hand might be a bit tougher.

Hats off if you manage it. I'll be there.:)

    Hello,
this is Cormac from poker.ie. I am glad to see the interest in poker tournaments in Ireland. I notice you talk of organising your own tournaments. This will be no doubt more costly than attending poker.ie tournaments, chips, cards and most of all a venue! poker.ie offers a fair game for everyone. The first tournament will be held in Bray, located close to the dart line for easy access. There will also be a bar open on the night. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask, I will respond to them as often as possible.
    Regards,
    Cormac O'Sheehan

Hi, welcome to Boards. I'm resident caretaker round here.

What we're looking to do is to organise a night for Boards people (theres a lot of us as you can see :) ).

We'll pay the same as you usually charge for the same prizes etc, its just that we are kinda tribal and wont to have a closed night for ourselves (though I am giving serious thought to popping along to your night anyway!). Some people here would feel a bit dubious about just turning up and playing with the poker sharks you might have as regulars.

So, if you guys want to team up with us and get a separate night for Boardsters we can bring the people.
    Give it some thought anyway...

Can I ask you one thing? Do you have dealers or is each person expected to deal at each table?

    DeV.

Thank you for the welcome. Everyone is welcome to poker.ie tournaments, we can not say no to somebody just because they may be better than the rest at poker, it just wouldn't be fair. The tournament on July 8th will be our first one. Since we are all 21 and under, most people present will be friends and friends of friends. If we expand and get more popular, maybe professionals will attend some games. If this becomes a problem we realise people will not want to come and blow away their money at the fact they will be playing against people much more skilled at the game, thus we may have to introduce certain tournaments specifically for under 25 year olds, students, board members etc. This may all lie ahead in the future but as of present, there is no threat of poker sharks at any table. Yes, each person at the table will deal once it is his or her turn. We are trying to encorporate a relaxed atmosphere because allot of the players will be new to the game and there are no penalties for bum dealing and that kind of thing. Any more questions and I will gladly answer.
    Regards,
    Cormac

God....I'm feeling very old all of a sudden.

Cormie, you do realise that not everyone over 25 is out to rip you off......though it may feel like that sometimes, nor are we all hardened drinkers or gamblers. ;)

Surely you can pitch the level of the entry fee at the level of the player you are trying to attract.

I'm a relative newbie at playing poker, and would love to play at a tournament, and not be excluded because of my age!!

Are you saying that if I am over 21/25 (whatever?) I cannot enter the tournament?

    Poorly thought up post

    there is life after 25!

My quote of "under 25" was just meant to give an idea of poker nights with certain age groups.

    *bump*

Just a question, has there been any advance on this? Its just that the nights are drawing in, so some indoor activity is more suited! :D

You'll all like me I always lose.
