I'm sure eircom's TV offering will be available on FTTH eventually - this is just a soft launch with limited availability.

I am in Ennis but FTTH doesn't seem to be available at my address yet. To be honest after seeing the pricing I am not at all bothered. I won't upgrade from my 100Mb eVDSL until the prices come down a lot more as my current speed is more than enough for me.

Going from DSL to eVDSL was a no brainer for almost everyone but going from eVDSL to FTTH isn't going to bring any noticeable benefit for 99% of people. The other 1% are probably techies who are work from home or hosting websites or uploading a lot of data. I think that FTTH is going to be a very hard sell for eircom at those prices given that they are competing with their own eVDSL is most cases. I can see some major prices cuts in 6 month's time.

When other operators announce prices based on Eircom's good wholesale price I think the picture will change. If Vodafone were to offer at 60 per month I'd sign up tomorrow even with a 150-200 installation cost.

Seems to be only available on one estate in Ennis. I've now tried 80 odd locations and only found one. (Including a location that had VDSL trialed in 2000 as part of the Information Age town).

My main reason for looking forward to FTTH was so I could get the TV offering, as I wasn't willing to lose 15mb off my 70mb connection. But as I've previously stated, I think this is a con job by Eircom. I suspect they are trying to persuade gullible politicians that they deserve the NBP money by telling them they've rolled out FTTH to x towns, I suspect we won't see the numbers of houses available to figures because it will be minimal.

You have previously stated it, several times now. It doesn't mean it's correct. The FTTH roll out has just begun and you're dismissing it as a con job. I mean, words fail me. Give it some time at least before rushing to judgement. It's a huge undertaking.

The problem I have with it is, they did work at the cabinet that serves the area around me and only connected one estate to it. It doesn't make sense to me that they would then come back to that cabinet and do more work to connect other estates?

And I'm afraid when it comes to Eircom, I am extremely cynical as from past experience they are totally incompetent and downright dishonest at times.

Just to add to that feeling, this morning I received in the post a letter from them telling me I'd get a whole €40 discount if I signed up to another 18 month contract! Gives me the distinct impression they are concerned I will move to another company because they have nothing better to offer me.

Anyway, your point is taken and I will not mention it again (at least until someone asks the question) ;)

True, but it WAS Eircom that raised expectations by talking about availability in 16 towns in August. It does raise question marks about all the projections going around, especially the NBP. At least on pricing, they consistently said it would be a premium product.

they're all waiting for gov. intervention - esb included. until the funds are lodged i'm afraid it's only low hanging fruit any of them are interested in.

Received another email from eircom saying that the 1000Mb was available at my home (Ennis). Special offer of 67e for first 6 months then I can switch back to a lower speed after that if I want. I had already checked and my home wasnt in one of the estates to get it. Currently waiting on a call back from them. Is it possible you just have to ring and ask for it?

Disappointed that Vodafone aren't going to resell the Eircom fibre as I have about a year left on my VF contract and is going to cost me to much to break it.

I enquired about the tv bundle yesterday and they were supposed to email me back with a quote (they haven't yet) but the way I was going to work it out was bundle the tv with it and get rid of Sky.

I reckon that I would be able to get the 1000mb eVision with sports, HD and multiroom for what I am paying sky and VF now 150e. I know eVision isn't as good a service as sky but I am willing to give it a go

One of the guys here asked in the talk to Vodafone thread and they confirmed it for now anyway it seems. They are concentrating on their own system with SIRO and the ESB. Can't post the link sorry using a crappy phone atm. But it should be easy to find

Yeah I contacted them to complain about the email before that, as it was totally misleading. They must have just taken me off the list. Annoying moronic promotional rubbish.

Checked the ultrafast page and it says Carrigaline is live. Tried the line-checker and looks like I'm still stuck on eVDSL :(

I got the email as above. Tried ordering online... said 25mbs (which is what I have).

Called eircom. Didnt have a clue. Supervisor said call in October when Carrig is going live? Couldnt tell me if my house is going to be eligible

Same here. The link says 100Mb. I would expect this partial rollout is more of a trial to hone work practices and get up to speed. If some of the eircom techs are actually on training for installs via pole drops next week we can expect a rapid take off over the next couple of weeks. Siro will be breathing down their necks soon. :D

In the latest email, where Eircom state that "Your home is now ready for Ireland’s fastest broadband", they also mention, "Our best modem ever for superior WIFI" as being included.

Does anyone know if this is the F2000 or if have another 802.11ac device for this launch?

I got the email also saying that FTTH was now available at my house but after doing the line check and also ringing sales, my exchange hasn't been enabled for it yet. Everyone else that got this email, are you currently out of contract? I wonder is this just a ploy by Eircom to tease those out of contract in to waiting a bit longer to get in to another 18 month contract? It says on the site 'Existing customers get a FREE upgrade* to Ultrafast 1000Mb fibre and get Ireland’s fastest broadband direct to your home' *FREE installation offer available to existing customers for a limited time only. This must only be for the first 4 months like with the new customer promotion? It doesn't say how long the offer goes on for???

I'm out of contract with eircom now. It''ll be a case of first come first served.

I'm within contract and still got the email. Rang and they said the exchange is enabled (Douglas), but not my line yet. Haven't seen any fibre being pulled in the estate either. I hate these teasing emails!

That highlights that their sales reps need additional training on FTTH. It has nothing to do with your existing copper/exchange.

Over-use of the word "fibre" is mainly to blame.

Right I have just ordered (I'm in Swords) - install is scheduled for October 14th. This year

Hopefully we'll know more about whether they provide a battery (like Verizon do with their FIOS offering in the US) before then :P

I got an e-mail from them saying it isn't available in my area yet, but I wasn't expecting it to be. It did however tell me they can offer me efibre, which isn't true. The exchange is on their map to be upgraded in Q1 next year. They want to offer everyone something which isn't available.
