How are teenagers now being taught in school about 9/11

This is something I thought about now - we are now 14 years since the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center buildings in New York, so the majority of teenagers currently in school would have been too young to remember it happening, or weren't born yet.

I'm assuming that it is being taught in school, possibly history class (?), but I'd be curious to know exactly what is being said about it.

They aren't taught about it. It's not part of the curriculum.

Why would Irish schools teach kids about 9/11? Do you think the famine or the troubles get mentioned in US schools?

Can't remember being taught much about the Iran/Iraq war, Cold War or breakup of the USSR. Then again, I was half asleep for most classes

It was Irish history and European history up to the end of the 1940's when I was in school. Never did we do anything about the history of the USA.

I wonder if they are being taught that 9/11 happened on 11/9?

Irish kids get taught more world history than Irish, at least at leaving cert level anyway from my memory.

I finished school in 2007 and got taught up to the fall of the Soviet Union. Always wondered at what point an event becomes "history". I'm sure there will be modules available soon (if not already) on the War on Terror, which would cover 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq and now ISIS.

Reeling in the Years is modern history for Irish kids.

Surely what happened was that the plane weakened the structure where it hit resulting in a huge amount of pressure on the lower part of the structure and eventually it gave way.

    But intense heat will

Are they not being taught about it? That would be very odd, considering that it was such a huge event in modern history, with impacts being felt globally and Irish people dying in the attacks.

I suppose. If that metalwork teacher had also trained as a structural engineer, and who understood how burning jet fuel reacts with steel at high temperatures. And if he was a dribbling idiot who got all his news from too-long, badly edited CT vids on YouTube.

    :D

Not sure about that. I remember being in school and our teacher pretty much drilling WW2 into us. Sure, maybe not WW1, from what I can remember.

We did very little on the actual events of WW2 but heaps on the build up.

Are they teaching them about Italia '90?

    They should.

Not to bring this up again, but what happened to building 7 it magically collapsed too? Plus you can see the thermite leaking from the buildings before they go down.

There has always been something odd about the whole incident. I suppose we'll never know until mythbusters does an 9/11 episode when they build an exact replica of one of the twin towers and flys a plane into it.

didn't we get just as far in 2002?

If they are not being taught about Russia's Beslan school massacre, where hundreds of children died. Then I'm not sure what relevance past events in New York would have for Irish school children.

Not unless Sean Lemass, Emily Dickinson, glacial deposition and erosion had anything to do with it.

And it will be a rehash of tired old theories from the last 14 years, I'd any real "evidence" was forthcoming it wouldn't get its worldwide premier on bog 3

No. QF in '90, last 16 in '02.

And 2002 wasn't our first world cup.

Not turning this into a conspiracy theory, but it's fair to say that the world may never know exactly what happened that day. There's a lot of unanswered questions, but there's no denying that lots of people died and had far reaching global impacts that did change the world.
