Google's new logo is a disgrace. What other companies have made similar mistakes?

It looks more like Comic Sans to be honest.

Would sans serif have been worthy of investment?

Another business blunder that comes to mind is NewsCorp paying $580 Million for Myspace in 2005 only to mismanage it and then offload it for $35 Million.

Another? How is the logo change a business blunder?

    DuckDuckGo?

Seeing as I never see the logo, I can't say I give a ****. Is google.ie still your homepage OP?

It's surely to tie into the look of Android 5.0 and 6.0, which are similarly styled. I like the style of them, so I'll give this a thumbs up.

I preferred the old one, but it's not a massive deal or anything!

I don't love it, I don't hate it. It's not even all that different.

    Are you 7 years old?

A company's logo is the first thing you see of them, so of course it has a lot to do with what you think of them.
Maybe if you are extremely shallow, or 7 years old. What search engine are you going to use now? and where are you going to invest your money, you should get onto their marketing department just in case.

A good point, it's nothing too original. Which is why I'm surprised it has generated so much controversy!

I'd say Google are switching back to the old logo as we speak (well, type) as this thread has no doubt set off a big red alarm in the Google HQ. Picture that movie War Games and you get the idea.

Can you imagine the mind of this Gerry Rio.
It would be funny to be inside his head for a while. He was sitting there respecting Google Inc. Becoming horrified at the logo. Losing respect for the multinational technology company. Deciding to cancel prospective equity purchase. Expressing his outrage in public. Suffering a mild break down before having an insight that the logo has a kind of tidy, bright, uncluttered, minimalist elegance. Desperately phoning his stock broker as the share price shoots up. Too late. Too late......

I really dislike venues being renamed after corporate sponsors like The Point or Grand Canal Theater.

"Grand Canal Theater" had a timeless and elegant quality to it, but "Bord Gais Energy Theater" is an unwieldy mouthful whose name probably won't last more than 10 years and is also confusing to any tourist who doesn't speak Irish.

When I heard that it was to be renamed the Bord Gaid Energy Theatre, I genuinely thought it was a joke. No way could that be a real name, I thought. It was irony, I reckoned. But no. :( The Grand Canal Theatre was a lovely name.

+1, the "energy" bit was ridiculous, would have been bad enough without it too. I can picture a bunch of gobshite suits sitting around saying "but that's what the full name is".

It'd be like calling it the "aviva insurance PLC stadium"

Google have such an unbeatable dominance in the market and such a vast quantity of patents, they could make their logo a steaming turd and it wouldn't affect their profits. Given internet 'culture' it would probably increase it. Look at us all discussing Google's slight change in typeface for their logo.

    What about.....
"Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine Hulk And The Flash Combined theatre"

YES!!! It was the word 'Energy' being there that pushed it into the realms of farce. That's why I didn't believe it was a real name! 'Bord Gais Theatre' would still be terrible but much less farcical.

I don't care what logo Google use. I don't use services that collect as much info about you as possible.

It doesn't look very dramatically different to me.

I've never really liked google's logo to begin with so I'm not outraged!

It does remind me of multicoloured fridge magnets.

The biggest blunder I can think of is Blockbuster having the opportunity to purchase the fledgling Netflix for not that much money..

You can all see how that turned out.
