Google's new logo is a disgrace. What other companies have made similar mistakes?

Google's new logo is like a child trying to write with crayons, it really is mind boggling what they've done. It has made me lose a lot of respect for a company I admired greatly and I was close to buying some shares in this year.

What other companies have fcuked so royally like this over the years?

The big one of course was Coca Cola and their "New Coke" shambles.

I will toss in the old "That's Racist" where race is not relevant. :pac:

Well they did introduce it as being drawn by a child with crayons, maybe the simple look is what they're going for.

I like it. Weird seeing a new logo on any product after so many years but you'll get used to it.

I remember Coco Pops briefly calling themselves Choco Krispies.

It's hardly a disgrace now. Let's not loose the run of ourselves

Also new coke was genius. How much money did they make when they introduced classic coke and how much brand awareness did they get? A lot.

Coke are the top brand in Ireland so it hardly sunk them did it.

Your life must be pretty boring and empty if this is what you call a "disgrace".

    Get a grip of yourself.

A company's logo is the first thing you see of them, so of course it has a lot to do with what you think of them.

Every time YouTube try to get their music service off the ground I cringe. It's becoming clear that, as the "big guy", they don't want to publicly back down having talked the talk for a few years now. But it's obviously they have nothing up their sleeve when it comes to music.

At this point it's obvious that Spotify have them licked. I was playing my ps4 the other day. Connected my phone to it. Was able to play GTA4 online while using my phone's Spotify app to control the Spotify app on the PS4 to listen to music during play in the background without ruining voice chat or the game's audio. No lag in terms of controlling with phone. No buffer/load time. Great quality sound.

YouTubes CEO said in an interview in Time magazine this week that people use YouTube to "discover new music". Pfft. Hasn't been true for at least two years I reckon. Spotify's Discover feature, "related artists", mood playlists and regional charts are a treasure trove for trying out new types of music you'll enjoy.

    YouTube should stick to video.

The new logo seems in-keeping with the company's "beardy/hipster/chill out dude" public image.
I couldnt give a fúck if the logo looks like it was written in excrement. If the search engine works, that's all that matter. I don't wear t shirts with the logo or anything.

Another business blunder that comes to mind is NewsCorp paying $580 Million for Myspace in 2005 only to mismanage it and then offload it for $35 Million.

It's a logo, its not that important, surely.

I like it anyway, which I suppose makes me childish. It reminds me of the rainbow Apple logo.

True - but they all switch to Spotify when they turn 18. They're a bad demographic to target for $ because they have none. Most won't even have a visa debit card until they're 18 so we've got the Mammy and Daddy barrier.

Netflix was okay because they could target "Families" with multi-user accounts. Music is way too personal a media form for that kind of platform to work. Spotify have it nailed IMO. Every single addition they make to their app is great. I have yet to hear anyone complain about Spotify. Their UI is class, their selection unrivaled (bar a few notable absences) and, best of all, they absolutely smoke Jay Z's "Tidal" which is a proprietary piece of 5hit.

Wait till you find out about the share fiasco.

Don't worry though, you've got Uisce Eireann now as well to make up for it.

Telegraphs. We also had funky orange and white R4 vans, before we sold our national telecommunications network off to the asset strippers.

Have a cup of tea and a sit down ;)

The UI elements for the new brand is a measly 17k png-sprite of bandwidth which is a dandy improvement.

Also coke may be #1 in terms of 'brand recall', but is still just flavored sugar water
    - that a minority of slightly unwise people, would choose to purchase & consume regularly.

I just puzzled why a new logo has made you lose a lot of respect for Google rather than Google's increasing control and censorship of the internet.

It doesn't at all. Much less rounded.

I just got off the phone with Larry Page there. He told me he is gutted that you won't be investing in Google. Gutted!
