    NFL question folks:

    Right now teams are trimming their rosters. Would these releases have an effect on a team's salary cap or would (most of) these players be on un-guaranteed money?

    They'd all be unguarranteed. Guaranteed money comes off against the cap, guys who were guaranteed too much for this season would have been cut back before free agency started.

    Generally if you want to get rid of a salaried player in August you trade him, usually the player will renegotiate with the new team if it means keeping his job.

    Ok so if Player X signs a three year deal, $15m fully guaranteed with a $6m signing bonus, the hit is therefore:

    Year 1 $7m
    Year 2 $7m
    Year 3 $7m

    ...but if he is cut in time before Year 3 then the cap penalty/hit is only $5m?
