Can you clarify if a player has to be injured to be replaced? For example if Murray gets injured can we call up Boss to replace the extra centre?
don't think so. we could drop the centre on their head and send them home for that reason.

No the replaced player has to be injured.

No the replaced player has to be injured.

Well, just to be pedantic... I suppose we could fake someone's injury, and 'drop' Murray for a few games.... But the fact we'd call up Boss to replace an injured player that isn't a scrumhalf would probably set off alarm bells and I suppose it's against the rules somehow if caught.

Or we could just bring 3 scrum halves, which is what we'll do. We've brought far worse players than Boss or Marmion to the World Cup before.

    Injured only...

Can't be replaced for any other reason..as far as I know..

    Hypothetical question though..

What happens for example if we have a prop on the injured list and then another one got suspended for a game or two for a yellow card or something...

Given that you must have 4 props in the 23 - Would we be forced to replaced the injured guy even if he was only out for a few days with a twinge??

Or can you replace a guy if he's suspended and unavailable to play?

I know, I just thought we were having a stupid conversation so I thought I'd make it stupider.

    :pac:

Was Luke Fitz really left out for him? Not exactly EOS' finest moment...

He also brought 5 flankers and 1 number 8, the number 8's name was not Jamie Heaslip

In terms of the provision of front row players to comply with Law 3.5, the necessary number of reserve front row players must be included in the Tournament Team to cover last minute injuries to front row players selected in the Match Team within the 48 hour replacement timeframe set out in Section 4.5 on page XX.

Thanks for that.. Doesn't really answer the Suspended vs. Injured question..

However , it would seem that a team would be forced to permanently replace an unavailable player to ensure they have enough F/R cover.. even if that player is only slightly injured

well travelling with 6 props, when 4 are need on a match day, gives some scope for protection, especially if youve an ambi like bent.

In that case youd need 3 props unavailable to be in trouble... and thats highly unlikely.
or 2 on the same side if youve no ambi reserve.

Well if its cuz he isn't fit then I reckon his RWC chances are becoming slim....

White must be doing a little jig.

Bad news for his WC plans, sounded last week like Joe was relying on this game for Moore to give himself some chance at proving himself up to speed.

Or maybe he's not rushing into it, and prepare to play against Wales

Perhaps a slightly more interesting question arises where a prop has been suspended for a match and one of your other 4 wakes up too ill to play on the morning of the match. If you've only got 5 props in the squad then it's hard to see how you could have 4 available for the match even without the 48hr rule.

Interesting that Tuohy, Cave and Gilroy have been named for Ulster whereas (as far as I can see), none of the Munster guys will feature.

Bowe was probably more hard done by than Fitzgerald. But in fairness being left out of that WC seemed to be the catalyst for Bowe to start raising his game (contrary to what some will.say it started before he went to the Ospreys). By the way it was the same for D'Arcy in 2003. Six months later he was player of the 6Ns.

I am going to take it as a good sign for the Munster players.

I had kind of been holding out some hope for Cave but it was always a long shot. This seems to be the final, or at least penultimate, nail in his 2015 WC coffin. Gilroy had zero chance and as discussed Ryan has nailed down the final second row spot over Tuohy.

Indeed - Would they waive the 48hr rule there or would the team have to forfeit the game?

Certainly in the case of front-rows it would be incredibly harsh not to - Every other position they could just say tough , you can have a scrum-half covering centre and full-back..he'll just not be very good.

Marmion and White starting for Connacht would suggest something similar for them however White suprises me considering the doubt over Moore.

They both need gametime, it means nothing...

White is only on the bench, possibly because Connacht are stuck for props? Wouldn't read too much into that.

    Boss won't be included apparently
(Edit : for Leinster I meant, for the moment:D)

2 9s makes no sense. If one of the 9s gets injured in a warmup on matchday you have nobody to come into the 23. That's asking for trouble.
