Again, your own post was far from insightful. I'm sorry that you couldn't garner my opinion from my post, hence the dumbed down version.

I've never even seen the dude's username before, so unless he's a re-reg, I dunno how he'd have a problem with me :pac:

Maybe it's because I'm female and tattooed. Cause they obviously look so much better on men. :D

Maybe it's just women... I know it's relatively early in the day but it's still Strange to get so worked up...

This is clearly an issue that people who like tattoos will say they look good on either sex and those who don't like them will say neither.

I personally don't like tattoos or have any but they have been in fashion for 20 years and to say that they are a 'tramp stamp' for females or suited only to criminals or soldiers is just ridiculous in this day and age.

It's all about personal choice and taste and no need to judge people because of them.

Yawn. Take yourself off somewhere more "exciting" so, you've managed to take the thread far off topic. Have a drink, chill, it will do you good, and do us here even better

Tattoos can look OK on either gender when they are still relatively young. But they look ridiculous on older people. Years ago a person might have one or two tattoos so when they got older it wouldn't be too bad. Still looked horrible though. To me of course. But these days the coverage of the tattoos is mad. Entire arms with sleeves and ones down the back or chest. Will look stupid on older skin.

Getting a tattoo is effectively a bet with yourself that your tastes and aesthetic preferences will never change. As anyone who bought a Linkin Park album in the early 2000s can testify, this is rarely the case.

Interesting question, I'd never thought about that before.

I would say that generally, tattoos on women tend to look nicer. But I think that's mostly down to the motives that women tend to choose vs the motives men tend to go for.

Anything original and well thought out would look good on either gender, but then most tats you come across would really be chosen from catalogues. I know few enough people who went to the trouble of actually designing their tattos.
And when it comes to those catalogue motives, women tend to go for decorative and men tend to go for macho/trying to be shocking. And to my eyes, a little tribal wrapped around an ankle or a few stars running down a neck do tend to look better than a flaming skull on a shoulder blade.
But that's really just my own, subjective taste.

Well, when you think about it, so is marriage, really.

It's also a fairly heavy bet that the meaning attributed to your tattoo will never change. Like a Confederate flag tattoo done in the seventies, or a Lostprophets tattoo from ten years ago.

there should have been a third option - no one. then i'd have voted.

True, but most reputable tattooists won't just slap one on you the day you walk in the door.
When I got mine, I sat down with the artists, I showed him my drawing, explained where I wanted it. He went over the lines, told me what would be possible and what not, and then sent me away to come back in 2 weeks if I still wanted it then.

Seemed a bit silly at the time as I had worked on that drawing for around 2 years beforehand (and it's really only a fairly small tattoo), but I think it was quite a responsible way of conducting business.

I've nothing against tattoos, but I've yet to be inspired enough by anything to warrant me representing it as a tattoo. If that ever happens I would have no issue getting a tattoo.

I am the same, nothing against them but no image has ever inspired me enough to get one.
That said, I think some people have awesome tattoos that really suit them.

I have one tattoo, and my partner has four. We're both women. I think that tattoos suit both genders, it's like asking if clothes suit men or women better, obviously they suit both but depends on what someone is wearing. I feel the same about tattoos, they suit both but peoples' tastes differ and so there are tattoos that I like and ones that I don't. My partner looks amazing with her tattoos. As for when I'm old and wrinkly, well I'll be lucky to reach my 40s so I'm not too concerned to be honest :p

Love Tattoo's myself , I have 3 with one of them with one being a half sleeve. Thankfully where I work the Taboo of anyone who has a tattoo isn't present in the company or majority of people here as the usual 'He must be a scumbag' or a 'criminal' or any of that garbage, It's a large multinational company as well very much on the high end and I mostly wear shirts but 2 days a week or so I wear t-shirts, during the summer and nobody bats an eyelit or says anything about it, I meet clients like that as well and funny enough they don't think I am going to kill them or rape their cats because I have them.

And even if they did , I wouldn't really care...this is what I like and who I am and I'm good at my job , that's more important than what's on my arms.

Pointless place for a tattoo really.

    Poll need a 'both' option.

I think there are places where a lot of tattoos won't look good, like on the chest. I like sleeve ones, personally.

I'm thinking of getting another one or two myself, but I haven't come up with any design I like enough yet.

Same here, you should subscribe to r/tattoos on reddit to see some amazing pieces. I've a few artists bookmarked in case I am ever inspired :)

This is one of my favourites done by a guy in Sweden, I really like the style and details plus it's not too colourful. I don't like too much colour in a tattoo.

I've got two tattoos, both of which I spent months thinking about, planning and preparing. I love them both.

I don't think you can really slap a gender view on tattoos. An arm is an arm. It's like asking do jeans look better on men or women.

And the "what about when you're older?" Argument never made sense to me. Why do you care what other people look like? They're not there for you to look at, or there for your amusement so who gives a ****? In any case, all bodies age, not just the tattooed ones. I know if I saw an 80 year old with a load of tattoos I'd think to myself "oh look. An older person with tattoos. Cool." Just like if I saw an older people with a Mohawk, or wearing skinny jeans or whatever. People worry far too much about what other people are thinking about them. I feel sorry for people like that.

It's a limiting question. I don't like tattoos and don't think they flatter either gender. Having said that I respect other people's choice to have them if that's what they want.

    And for the record.

As a bloke, I think a well done Tattoo on a girl is very attractive...some people would find it a turn off.

Some girls I've met really like my tattoo's , others immediatly wouldn't be interested off the bat because I have them and in that case they can keep on walking anyway , it's good to get that closed minded, judgemental attitude without knowing you personality out of the way without wasting 20 minutes talking to them or buying a drink...it's a win win

That Kat Von D chick and others with that look are the only women whom I think can pull off the blanket tattoo thing. Otherwise, the odd small tattoo here and there is what I think suits women more.

Tattooing is a strange one, as it can look great or utterly terrible. Depends very much on the person.

I think it depends mostly on the individual's style, choice of tattoo moreso than the gender. In general I think men "get away with" more tattoos than the average woman would. I have one quarter sleeve, and my partner has 6 scattered smaller ones. I don't think he'd suit full sleeves or large bodywork at all, and he thinks I suit the sleeves and heavier work. He has a mate who has large leg pieces done, and they look fab on him, and a female friend who is very heavily tattooed and we both think it looks dreadful on her!

    I think I'd be a Lesbian if I was a woman.

    Dolphin-on-the-shoulder tattoo screams prison wife.

I've heard so-called 'tramp stamps' can be problematic if a woman ever needs an epidural. That may be an urban myth?

The small ironman tattoo is the coolest I've seen. If I ever did an ironman I'd get that, otherwise tattoos just don't appeal.

Depends very much on the tattoo too. And placement is important as well I think. I'm not necessarily talking about the 'arse antler' - which despite 99.9% of classy Irish males of impeccable taste dismissing as 'trashy' and 'trampish' I think can look superb. On the right lady.

But jaysis tattoo fans often do themselves no favours with the total lack of thought and originality.

Those stars. WTF are you thinking?
    Butterflies.
    Quotes / names in copperplate.
Manga / Japanese video game characters.

I've seen some truly impressive tattoos. Considered it many a time. But at this stage not having one is one thing which sets me apart.

It is people with Chinese calligraphy tattoos I feel sorry for, they trust that the tattoo artist has an in depth knowledge of written Cantonese/mandarin whereas he likely got his inspiration from a Chinese takeaway menu...So while you are there telling everyone that your tattoo means "strength and honour" or "Loyalty and Family" it probably means "Beef and Broccoli".

There is probably some website in the Orient, similar to our own ones here which highlight poor grammar, spelling and mysterious English, used by business owners in East Asian countries, but these ones feature westerners with tattoos that say "humble brick","Hair" and "impossible dragon".

Hmmmm, sailor, circus freak, criminal, eejit, which one am I today ?!! I can't understand why people get so worked up about stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with them. If someone wanted to dye their hair green and walk around on their hands, clapping their feet, I couldn't give a flying sh*te. Jesus, I would really hope that people have more going on in their lives than to be so judgemental. Clearly not. To answer the question, they look equally good on men and women. Once the person is happy with them that's all that matters.

Some people can pull the tat look off, others...not so much.
