I see Merlin car auctions are having an auction tomorrow morning with no reserve! May be worth checking out. Might get an absolute bargain!

Or more than likely an absolute basket case... ;)

It's not only Ireland it's a worldwide "problem" in the insurance and investments sector. However, Ireland is not helped by having multiple Government levies on top of the actuary calculations of risk.

And the only country where even a yearly test is not enough to stop cars becoming INSANELY dangerous on the stroke of midnight of their 15th birthday. Lolz

There's that too, but if one was going taking the chance then it could turn out in their favour.

Seen it on DoneDeal a while back. Looks great, lots of work put into it.

I've been following this guys build on passionford. He has dropped a cossie engine into an rx8. Just needs a fuel pump as the last one was seized. Fairly impressive amount of work gone into this. He has a bench power supply testing the dash electrics in this pic.

2 hours from the topside of dublin to the bottom end of wexford.

    No bad.

New Gorey bypass is handy. Best part of Gorey, IMHO

Not too hot on geography? Gorey was bypassed years ago. If you mean the Rathnew-Arklow section including the Ballinameesda bends then that ends about 15km North of Gorey!

Huh I remember driving through Gorey for some reason last year. Either way... it was a fast drive.

Also. Very few engines fit well with an RX8. The electronic systems are hellishly complex, and the stock ECU's smarter than most people I no.

It appears to be powered by Red Bull?

Oil catch can or something along those lines.

Just saw that BMW US has a new recall on for Driver side airbags for 2002-2006 3, 5 and X5. I know the 3 Series had a Takata recall over here, is this a different one?

Ha ha. Gorey's actually a good market town, lots of shops, restaurants services etc despite no discernible industry. By comparison, Arklow is awful.

Never had a car with a rotary engine, I'll stick with my v8s.

Great thing with rotarys is they don't test your emissions in the NCT

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 132 ✭✭Je suis tres mal

Wonder would that stay the same, if you put a non-rotary in a rotary engined car originally.
EG like the RX8 above, would that be emissions tested?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,541 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Nah. It'd be on their system as an rx8 so they wouldn't bother

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 132 ✭✭Je suis tres mal

Pity they are so intricate and have such a small engine bay and chassis so, that could have made for some interesting, emissions free, engine swaps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,541 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Agreed. Mazda don't have that many interesting non rotary engines, so keeping it mazda mightnt be that easy. Did I I hear of a diesel rx8?

I hope not, couldn't be putting a diseasal into an RX8!
Something like a v8 from an LS430 would be interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,541 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Flat four would be interesting and might suit size wise

2.3 turbo AWD from the 6MPS.

As mazda engines go it's probably the most likely

I booked my NCT the other day, confident I'd fly through. Bloody traction control light and handbrake light are back on together again today after 5 problem free months and I really can't afford to fix it before the test :(

That wouldn't cause it to fail would it.

Would I be daft to change from a 1999 Yaris 1.0 petrol to a 1.8 TDCi Focus at 20 y/o with 1 NCB?

Would insurance go up, down or stay the same?

It could go either way, I guess. But even if it goes down, would you do enough miles to compensate for the higher tax? If not, I'd say go for a 1.4 Focus - assuming you want a Focus.
