I had fun trying to find her today, we were told the wrong factory and I had a very abrupt phone call with the first factory.

Few guesses and wrong ends later, I got her in Ballyduff and the lady told me she KO'd at that and how she graded. If the paperwork is wrong (or if the office lady is, I'll let you know) If it's correct, I'll photograph the document!!

Fair enough, I'm just heading off to collect the cheque now, it's going to be a good weekend for me.:)

    R=4+ She killed out 450kg.

Great weight did you get 4.05 for her?

When I rang she hadn't prices up yet so I'm very wary of the score/weight just yet. I'll find out next week I guess.

Either I heard wrong or she told me wrong, it was 400kg KO, at 3.9. (Boo :() About 1500 take home. Don't think I would get that in the mart, not taking out testng and mart charges.

Great k/o, dissapointing price imo, should be at minimum €4 if not €4.10, no point saying it now when she's hung ha, be nice to have a load of them cows all the same @1500

I don't know, no vet testing fee or call out, €20 haulage and factory fees only. Very little feeding and still killed out 4+. Despite feeding a weanling up to two weeks ago :o She was only 4yrs old, I was sure she was 5. No matter, she's steak now!

Tbh it's the first animal I have factoried in ten years. Because it's part of an agent load, am I right in saying it could be brought up to a flat fee? B-duff were paying way higher last week so I can't see them dropping that much, would they? Or could it drop that way if more poor cows on the load?

I've two more, O's for sure and will prob send them same way. It just saves on hassle bringing them in for blooding.

I send an an odd fat cow to the factory in BJD, always agree a price before she goes tho. In the mart on Tuesday dealers were paying from €2/Kg up to €2.18/KG for heavy good quality finished cows over 700 KGS. This is €4 - €4.36/KG deadweight. Some factories must be paying more than this to dealers who can put a load of cows together.

I've always said this. It just doesn't apply to cows. The lad sending 5-6 cattle at a time has no clout with the factories. You want to be sending 15+ at a time.

Selling anything, are you better with one potential buyer or a few? Ringing up the factory, you are only given a grid price dead weight. You are giving them a live animal. There are so many variables. You'd want to have a doctorate in mathematics to figure out what you should get.

Go to the mart. You can compare your cattle with others on the day. You see their weight as they come in on the scales. You can see the buyers and the form. You have a lot more info. It's less cloak and dagger. Personally always found it a better and straighter way of trading stock.

That cow would have made at least 100 more in the mart.it's a serious cow at 450 kg deadweight

+1000 .unless ur a factory regular and sending regular stock you'll get rode bareback in the factory .mart is the place to go as you've more bidders ,see and hear of lots sending cows a long way from been finished straight to the factory .madness there doing themselves out of money and dragging price down for factory fit stock

Wìth a base price of 4.15 for underage cattle 3.9/kg for R'cows is a good price relatively speaking.

This shows that cattle are tight factory holding base prices but paying throught the nose in the marts for cows. 2.18/kg live weight for cows could be anything from 4.1-4.55/kg giving a K/O range of 48-53%. Only ways dealers pay a price like this is if factory is directly picking up the bill. They are not buying on spec.

    Cull cows:
    1 Fr 480kgs  €760, 1 Ch 895kgs  €1,960, 1 Lim 525kgs  €1,220, 1
    Hex 840kgs  €1,480, 1 Ch 695kgs  €1,500, 1 Ch 715kgs  €1,650

3.90 is no bad price for R grade cow this week. And I seen nothing in the 2 marts any better this week either.

Problem in some marts in south west is you have tanglers picking out animals as they come in and won't bid against each other....have seem some of my animals get 1 bid & sold....now I just sell on show n sale days so outsiders are around the sales pen.

That goes on in most marts throughout the country - hand in!

Lads selling cattle in singles only gift these bucks the chance to divide them up

All cull cows sold in singles in all marts in kerry
The northern buyers have put a good bit of life in marts down here all year , i have seen them put at least €100 on any cow they were on but if they only went out for a pee ,the local tanglers would drag back prices .I would want to be guaranteed them nortern buyers were attending mart before i would carry a factory fit cow to the mart otherwise factory and all i would have is a couple at the time

talking to a lad that was in SMB today, only the top 800kg cows making €2/kg , feeding cows well back , heifers back

a ch bull for €1700, he reckons he was worth >€1900 on the hook (forget the weight but over 1K kg in any case )

Yeah lads talk about farmers getting rode on price in the factory but the manner in which some farmers give away finished cattle in the mart is incredible sometimes. You'd wonder can some of them divide by two and multiply by four when they see the weight.

Ah feck it's still not a bad price for this day of the year.. But it wasn't any secret requiring ears to grapevines. 'Twas common knowledge to anyone in the game.

You'd have an eggy face if your still looking at fat overage cattle you could of moved a month ago.. They've fell 25 cent actually.
