Again: Rangers didn't ban anyone, they took away the press privileges of 2 proven liars with an agenda. If they really want to they're still able to get to Ibrox, they can just not use any of the press facilities.

If the BBC ( a publicly funded organisation) want to throw their toys out the pram then good, I don't know a single Rangers fan who wants them at Ibrox. I wonder how the BBC main offices in England feel about their Scottish branch going against their own charter about always remaining independent :)

Well obviously they dont see it as you do, quelle suprise

The old Rangers were a publicly funded organisation what with dodgy tax avoidance and tax evasion on a grand scale

The BBC charter clearly state that the BBC has to remain independent in all it's reporting or handling of pretty much everything. That doesn't seem to be the case here, especially not given the fact that for example they didn't go down the same route when Dundee FC banned Jim Spence from Dens Park when he was at the BBC.

They are pissed off it seems and most Rangers fans are happy about it.

Their employee was basically the mouthpiece for a a PR company and took everything they fed him for truth, even when they were showed for the liars that they were/are. He for example took for granted the story that Rangers were served with a winding up order by the SPFL, which was almost immediately discredited by other media sources.

He's let his personal feelings and a conflict of interest come between him doing his job as supposed to. The fact the BBC think that is fine shows why they are so disliked at Ibrox.

You were complaining a while back about Roy Greenslade, citing his past work with An Phoblacht and him being friends with Pat Doherty - like that was a bad thing or that it procured him from having a legitimate view on the goings on at rangers.

This guy from the Beeb, McLaughlin, I doubt he had a gig with An Phoblacht anyhoo, and Spiers who was brought up a Rangers fan. Do you really think they're all out to get ya? It all sounds a bit paranoid. Truth is Rangers in their different set ups have largely got an easy ride from the msm in Scotland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

Behave, that whole story Spiers claims about being brought up a Rangers fan is crap. He consistently gets basic facts from Rangers' history wrong as well.

His most famous BS story about that time is when he 'accidentally' (you know, as we've all done at one time) walked into the Celtic end with a Rangers scarf and everyone was super friendly and welcomed him as one of their own. You know, as always happens.

Everything he writes points to having more than a normal fondness towards Celtic and a very unhealthy dislike of Rangers.

Commenting on ManU vs Rangers he literally called Rangers fans 'A stinking bigoted cesspit of sub-humanity'. This while there were no arrests made at all for anything and a ManU publication later described the game as having the best atmosphere of the season due to the visiting support.

Some other choice words include 'putrid stench, savages, desecration, cavemen, vile troglodytes,...'
"Like the Rangers orange strip, the song ('Follow, Follow') cannot be listed among the great criminal acts, it merely offends”
“Bill Struth was either an idol or an idiot depending on your point of view”

Let's not forget his claim that Jock Wallace (this was written the day after he passed away) was a brute and a bigot, something that even Tommy Gemmell and Andy Lynch found necessary to refute.
More remarkable, though, amid the media and marketing frenzy surrounding the game, is the way the memory of Cooper's career has become lodged halfway between legend and myth………..One problem with the Davie Cooper legend is that, as with many public personalities who die young and become subject to mythology, it doesn't wholly square with the facts of his career. For a so-called "genius", you would certainly have expected Cooper, who died at 39, to have won more than his 22 international caps.”

Why would anyone at Rangers ever want to give someone who clearly despises the club to a high level a free pass to attend games and write his crap ?

Time and time again he has been shown up as a liar who basically writes what he wants without any regard for the truth. Hell, even today he was at it on Off The Ball, claiming Paul Murray was 'as much in the dark about the ban as he was' (which is untrue), he followed that up by saying he hadn't paid his way into Ibrox for the past 25 years and that he hasn't had press privileges at Ibrox for three years. Something which staff at Rangers proved to be false, he has been reporting every now and then from Ibrox (or so he claims, it wouldn't be the first time he writes match reports without actually attending) in the last few years. If he didn't pay his way in then it's safe to say he used some kind of press pass.

If you still believe he has any love for Rangers then you're mental.

McLaughlin had his privileges revoked for other reasons, spouting unsubstantiated stuff for starters and for basically printing everything his pals at Mediahouse fed him, rumours are that Traynor may be involved in this one due to his dislike for Jack Irvine and MH.

To keep it very simple someone summed it up perfectly:
As for the “bans” it’s worth pointing out that these decisions don’t actually amount to that, Messr’s Spiers and Mclaughlin are welcome to queue up and buy a ticket like the rest of us. It’s a withdrawal of journalistic privileges, basically if you are going to lie and abuse your position then fine but we’re not giving you a free ticket and finger food while you’re doing it…

If you are that dim to think that's what the whole thing is about then god help you. And the fact the BBC are upset their reporter won't avail of these and has to pay in says more about them.

    Touchy as always.

Rangers used to have a more cosy relationship with the Scottish msm, perhaps that has changed slightly in recent times after rangers went under.

Touchy you're the one that feels the need to comment on a couple of journalists having their press privileges revoked. If they want to go they still can they just have to pay. And really a tic fan telling me that the media in Scotland are cosy with Rangers is like telling me today is Saturday pointless

Ah yes, Rangers and their infamous great relationship with the 'msm' :pac:

I take it that's part of the Establishment too ? A bit like the refs.

Rangers v Peterhead today in the league cup round 1.
One change in the starting line up Holt drops to the bench with Shiels taking his place. Looks as the Warburton is definitely going with attck minded sides as it is another one today. Hopefully the team can build on last week.

RANGERS: Foderingham; Tavernier, Wilson, Kiernan, Wallace; Shiels, Halliday, Law; McKay, Waghorn, Templeton

RANGERS SUBS: Kelly, Zaliukas, Aird, Walsh, Holt, Miller, Clark

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

I can't get used to those free kicks which are obviously practiced in training.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭Broxi_Bear_Eire

    1-0 Templeton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

    Waghorn's work rate is unbelievable.

    But this ref, ****ing hell...

edit: Great pass by Tavernier, tap in for Miller. 2-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

And Tavernier makes it 3 :)

And a minute later he completely destroys an opponent :D

    What a team.

Yeah, you see from my perspective the Scottish msm haven't tackled Rangers on a lot of things at all yet. Consider a press conference last year which was to be a good news day for Celtic but turned into a conversation about Celtic fans singing Republican songs - not sectarian songs mind you - and Peter Lawwell being put on the spot to discuss this. Whereas the League cup semi final last season when it appeared that nearly all the rangers fans took part in sectarian chanting and singing, but the Rangers board to my knowledge have not been questioned about it. It appears most media questioning of rangers comes from outwith Scotland, from the English media and journos that used to work with An Phoblacht.

Perhaps this recent stance re the media by the new powers that be at Rangers is an effort to get their retaliation in first with the media, to single out anyone that might ask tough questions and send a message to the rest that if you don't watch out we will deprive you of your media privileges and finger food.

Rangers have withdrawn the rights of four shareholders to vote, collect a dividend or trade their stake.

Poor governance by the club & SFA exposed again

No its not the board has the right to stop them voting or receiving dividends if when asked they refuse to disclose who is behind the name. The SFA can do nothing nor should they in a matter as important as this. In fact their rules should have demanded that they disclose who they are. After all fit and proper ;)

What are you babbling on about?

If there was proper governance in place, these companies wouldnt be allowed to have shares in the first place. There wouldnt be a need for this measure for something so fundamental.

Fair point just seems every time I come on here and a Tic fan has posted its another dig so excuse me if I thought we were going down that road again. At least this is one thing we agree on.
And its not babbling when you don't explain your point ;)

True that it was poor governance by the previous board to let these people in, but that is being fixed now.

I thought the issue was clear cut and didnt need to be explained. the main issue here is the SFA but also Duff& Phelps/Rangers didnt care where the money was coming from to buy the assets. Everyone involved wanted a quick fix regardless of the long term problems

D&P as far as I can see they have s lot to answer for as they went out their way to make sure Green got the club though I still believe he was a front for others. The whole thing was a shambles

Has Dave found an auditor willing to put their name to his report of the financial affairs yet?

    First things first.

Seems like the net is closing.
POLICE probing Charles Green’s Rangers reign have quizzed a key whistleblower.

French businesswoman Sevim Cesim was questioned in Scotland on Wednesday.

And yesterday, former Gers boss Ally McCoist was spotted giving her a send-off at Glasgow airport.

Cesim was a central figure in Green’s original takeover team. McCoist befriended the ex-financial high-flyer during her short spell working in Glasgow in 2012, when she helped Green, Imran Ahmad and Brian Stockbridge prepare for a public share offering that raised more than £22million.

Cesim effectively worked as the company secretary but was sacked within weeks of the share issue being completed.

It is understood senior figures at the club attempted to oust her after she raised queries about how the money was being spent. Cesim later contacted the Serious Fraud Office with her concerns.

Sevim Cesim with Ally McCoist and her travelling companion at Glasgow Airport
It’s thought that Green’s Rangers burned through an astonishing £70million in less than 18 months.

Cesim declined to comment yesterday as she made her way back to the south of France.

But an insider said: “Sevim Cesim may not be one of the biggest or most well known names in this particular chapter of the Rangers saga but she just might become one of the most important players in this police investigation.

"She raised the alarm not only when she was working inside the club but also with the authorities after she had left. The truth is that guys like Green, Stockbridge and Ahmad didn’t like the kind of
questions she was asking. But Police Scotland are likely to be a great deal more receptive.”

A team of officers have spent around two years investigating the events that led to Rangers’ collapse under previous owner Craig Whyte in February 2012 – and the financial chaos which followed under Green.

Malcolm Murray with Brian Stockbridge, Imran Ahmad and Charles Green
Whyte bought the club from Sir David Murray in May 2011 only to plunge them into administration nine months later. After Rangers were liquidated, Green and his team bought the club’s assets in a £5.5million closed-shop deal with administrators Duff & Phelps.

It’s believed Cesim arrived in Glasgow soon after. She had worked with Ahmad and Stockbridge at
Zeus Capital, a Manchester firm who backed Green’s buyout.

Whyte was arrested and charged with fraud in November last year.

Duff & Phelps trio David Whitehouse, Paul Clark and David Grier face charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Police said last night they would make no comment on any individual helping them with their inquiries.

How come throughout all of this there has been no questioning of Ally taking 1 million penny shares from Charles Green?? The shares were valued at well over that at the time to the ordinary punter.
