I used to live in an estate, of about 100 units, fees were about 250 with 15% off if you paid on time.

After 5 years the management company were owed 75K, from about 50% non payers. We continued to pay ours as we were always planning on selling and faced a lien on our property and no end of red tape if we didn't but I often wondered why I bothered

Always take the few minutes to read the small print when doing things like the most important decision of your life like buying a house.

Absolute bullies these mangement companies , we really do live in a banana republic , another legacy of the Celtic tiger.

This is bullsh1t, people want to use all the facilities but dont want to pay and management companies are often left with no option but remove services.

Lots of naming going on here.

Joe would have had a stroke by now. Or cut her off.

...or found out details about that sickness and any friends or relatives that are sick.

Corpo taking over very few housing estates these days AFAIK

Private management is the way things are going.

Yet you still have to pay a property tax. Only in Ireland.

OK, I had a bit of sympathy for this caller at the start, but it didn't last long.

What's the problem with telling your kids you can't afford something? I do it all the time.

Yes ' facilities' like gardeners and refuse collection , who are usually intricately linked to the mangement companies , it's a scam .

There's a lot to be said about living in a caravan, you can just move on if things start wrecking your head and no property taxes or management fees.

Your talking nonsense, listen to the callers there are loads in the same estate not paying.

These people are causing the fees to rise for everybody and for some reason they dont want to understand they are in fact at fault.

A poor grammatically constructed question there from PBH.
    Most odd.

I suspect a lot of these properties were sold with management fees at "loss leader" levels.

Then reality kicks in and up go to the fees to a realistic level.

What about insurance? A sinking fund? Refuse charges? Maintenance?

There's a lot more than grass cutting goes on.

Lots and lots of excuses for not getting involved in the management committee here - put up or shut up.

Why is there not something in place where the management company can instead take a percentage of the price of the property in arrears instead?

The directors are voted in by the owners are they not?

"I have kids, so I'm exempt charges that I don't like."

As a childless person, this line boils my blood.

Aw, here; my caravan would be traceable with its own postcode, not fair, at all.

    The directors ARE the owners.

These people could step up and rebalance things in their favour (maybe) - but they have kids so they don't have the time.

The ones with no kids should pay extra

Do apartments pay commercial rates seeing as the council don't have control over them?
