does it matter if they didn't spend it in the last 2 years if those players are still on the team?

No, but at the moment Ed Woodward is the only CEO with an open chequebook, although City may still splash out more this summer.

How the hell is Di Maria a black spot on Woodward's reputation when getting him is all that was in his remit to begin with? Di Maria is Van Gaal's failure, not Woodward's.

Di Maria surely has to shoulder a lot of the blame? He didn't play like a supposed world class footballer consistently

Utd paid over the top for him at the start and will now make a loss on him.

I wouldn't entertain PSG if I was Utd though with their lowball offer. That's if it's true.

However, Di Maria clearly wants out and he's just a cash drain now for Utd. It can't help their bargaining position

James Chester going to West Brom for £8m.

    £8m.

Just let that sink in for a minute.

He'll come in at £5m in FPL I'd imagine. £4.5m if we're lucky.

Just saw the Chester one too, that's mad money.

Filipe luis confirmed back to atletico, they have a very solid squad for the upcoming season now. Andre wisdom on loan to norwich is another one for today.

How sustainable is this for the PL?

Do we need to remove the homegrown protocols in order to see the price of average British players go down, or will that see less British players given a chance, with value from the continent proving better?

The money is getting insane, and its definitely not a global thing.

Vidal gone to Bayern. The Guardian report a £28m fee. What a (relative) bargain.

The prices will remain elevated until the TV deals start to shrink. People have been waiting for this retraction for about ten years now. I'm opposed to the homegrown regulations as I don't think they serve to any positive effect but given the climate that is in England at the minute I don't see them being removed anytime soon, and UEFA carry out homegrown rules themselves anyway. It is an inflated yet cossetted market.

I thought he was pretty poor for WBA last season from what I saw.

Roberto Di Fanti must be working there!

Notts County have signed 15 players.

And have Ricardo Moniz as a coach.
They could be entertaining to watch as long as he is there.

In pounds it's a bargain but both clubs deals in Euros and 40 Million Euro is a good deal for both parties.

a lot of captain hindsights around, 59 million for one of the top 5 players in the world is about right

You'd wonder what their agenda is

Bit of a bargain had there. Must also mean the Alonso is on his way back to Liverpool

Incredible bargain. United were supposed to be signing him last summer for nearly double that. An absolute world class player with easily 4 to 5 years at the very top of his game (injuries permitting).

Steven Caulker somehow managing to get another move to a Premier League club. Southampton taking him on loan with a view to an £8m deal. What an overrated footballer.

    Top 5? Not a chance.

No one disputed the fee just he massively flopped for such a large fee.

When we bought him he was definitely in the top 5 tbh, and that's what's being discussed, thus the captain hindsight remark

Think you need to look up that word definitely, I don't think it means what you think it means.

I bet your perspective was a little different when Arsenal were rumoured to be signing him

Just posting to get back to transfer talk. Southend United have also been relatively active this transfer window.

Former Cork City striker Dave Mooney signs from relegated Leyton Orient, adding to our already sizable Irish contingent (although he's replacing another Irish lad in the shape of Barry Corr.)

We've also signed Anthony Wordsworth on a free after the 26 year old midfielder was released by Mick McCarthy's Ipswich.

Nottingham Forest's Northern Irish winger Stephen McLaughlin (formerly of Finn Harps and Derry City) is apparently close to signing for us on a permanent deal after his loan spell last season. The last I've heard anything about this was last month so talks could have progressed even more since, hopefully.

But, the most important transfer for us this summer just so happens to be one that isn't going to happen, and that involves our young, future English international goalkeeper, Daniel Bentley moving to bigger and better things, as he looks to have committed his (admittedly short term) future to the Shrimpers. Hopefully he'll develop even more this season, an when he does inevitably leave, it's for much more money! :D :pac:
