I got 284 thanks for the word 'No'. Not my most inspired post, but it was the first response to a dumb post.

One of the most thanked posts ever was the OP in a thread called "I've just punched a child"

(makes more sense when you read the post in context)

Not so much counting as if you got to Find All My Posts in the drop-down menu, you can sort by Most Recent and Most Thanked. So it's pretty easy to find!

    Never realised :o

Just done and seen that I got 50 Thanks ~ for saying that I misunderstood the thread title.

What a lot of Pony :D

My record is 7, I have seen one with 60 'Thanks', didn't even think the post was that good

To the 48 people who thanked this post, thank you for my new record

    To paraphrase David Brent..

You've seen how I react to people, make them feel good, make them think that anything's possible. If I make them laugh along the way, sue me. And I don't do it so they turn round and go 'Thank you Nacho for posting on Boards, thank you for the wisdom, thank you for the enlightenment.' I do it so, one day, someone will go 'There goes Nacho Business. I must remember to thank him.'

This thread has a huge number of high thanks posts, including my own highest thanked.

Its also awesome - the brown wedding has to be read to be believed!

    People count this stuff??

They do. And the last time we had this thread I checked my most thanked post and I was so embarrassed by it that I asked all thankers to go and unthank it.

Which - predictably for after hours - resulted in people going and thanking it more :)

The trouble with the 'thanks' function is that it attracts the thanks whores.

I have seen worse. There is another version of the software this forum uses where you get "reputation" rather than thanks for one post. Thanks Whores get forgotten as soon as the thread dies - but with reputation people whore continuously across many threads - and even try to link back to their more popular posts in every later post they make. It can be horrific.

If memory serves - as I have not gone back there due to the horrifically bad moderation - politics.ie uses such a system. The City Data forum I post heavily on does too.

And I used to post on three forums, like isgodimaginary.com where they have a system where you can vote a user up OR down on any post which they called "kharma" and you could see on any users post how much ups and downs they have been given. And this was TERRIBLE. People used to whore like mad things - but also genuinely interesting threads would suddenly get derailed into mud slinging accusations about who was "downing" who the whole time.

So in the greater scheme of things the "whoring" on boards.ie is far from the worst. You either can not see - or have to go to some effort to see - any statistics related to a users "thank" history. And I think this is a good thing.

Mea culpa, I didn't know how to check the number of 'thanks'. 7 was the highest number on any of my posts that I checked. Anyway, I have received 70 'thanks' for the OP in this thread so I am happy.

And who says AH isn't generous with their thanks anymore.

Well done OP :) happy for you!!!

I always thought that Barry McGuigan held the record for the greatest number of 'thanks'.

(younger posters may need to find out on Google who Barry McGuigan was)

    We need a thanks scale.

1 being mild thanks. 10 being a screaming orgasm.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,389 ✭✭✭NachoBusiness

If you've haven't got a least 5000 thanks after six months of signing up, then you thanks whoring skills aren't up to much in fairness.

It's not easy being a try hard. It takes work. Shameless hard work.
