I have come across girls 5'0" to 5'3" who were insistent that they wouldn't date a guy less than 6 foot tall. Of course, that was their prerogative. However when they had no suitors of that height, they changed their mind quick enough

women go through different stages with regards who they choose. what they look for in adolescence is different from what they look for in their 30s.

On first glance I wouldn't go for a guy same height as me (5'6) or shorter. That said personality is important and I'd say I could easily fall for someone shorter if I got to know him first.
A few extra pounds wouldn't bother me,obesity, would put me off.
I accept that most men find overweight women less attractive. I've never been overweight so that not an issue. (My slimness does mean I'm not well endowed chest wise - so I'd say that would put many guys off too)
We can't help what we like!

Do most people have a type I wonder? I used to have a type but I found that meant me ruling out girls that were perfect for me.

That's so true, in my teens and early 20s I was sure I'd only fancy a guy with a full head of hair. Once I got older (wrong side of 30 now!) that isn't so important anymore - wouldn't even put me off as many men early 30s and over are receding and I tend fancy guys my age or older....

the whole dating game is a bit like going for a job interview, except both participants are scrutinizing each other. both are trying to impress each other. if the woman impresses the man, she will be his type and if the man impresses the woman, he will be her type. one may not initially on first viewing be ones type but they can become it.

I'm 5ft 6 and most of the men I've gone out with have been a little bit taller than me or around the same height and it honestly doesn't bother me. I would go out with someone shorter than me, I mean I wouldn't be thrilled about it but if I liked him then of course I would, it definitely wouldn't be a deal-breaker.

    My wife is 6'2 and I'm 5'8.
The kids have her height too by the looks of it.
    Height isn't a issue....she doesn't wear heels.:)

I'm 5'4", so there's not many guys who are smaller than me. I've no issue with height though, it's not a big deal. The guy I've been seeing is 6'1, and it's almost awkward, we look like little'n'large at times.

5'8" is short for a man!

    I'm 5'8"

Height isn't an issue for me but I like guys around my height - works better logistically

I'm a tall woman and I personally wouldn't. It would make me very conscious of my height especially when wearing heels.

if a small woman says she will only date a taller man I don't think it makes much difference

but as a tall woman you are really cutting down your options

    I don't think its logical

So she's saying, Zac Efron, Mark Walberg, Dave Franco etc just don't cut it and they shouldn't even try!

Some guys around 5'6" - 5'8" get with, whoever they feel like getting with, because they're very good looking, charming etc.
When a women makes a point of saying "I'd never get with a short guy" it shuts um up pretty quick to be compared to some stunning looking girl going out with a short guy.

I'm 5ft 9" in my socks very very thick socks and I can tell you that lots of famous dudes out there are bs'ing about their height. Of those I have stood near at premieres and the like: Emilo Estevez is I'd say 5ft 5", Pacino 5ft 4", Colin Farrell 5ft 9", Tim Roth 5ft 7", Bono 5ft 5", Adam Sandler 5ft 8", Bernard Dunne 5ft 6".. they're all the shorties I can recall. Tarrantino was much taller than I had expected. David Soul the same. Brendan Gleeson another I thought wouldn't be that big but was a giant to me.

I'd say in general as a result of a lot of bs from people, when girls say 6ft, they mean around 5ft10" as most guys that are 5ft10" will have said they were 6ft and so it's almost considered it now. I always tell the truth as I would hate being called on being less than I said. How mortifying would that be for someone to sigh when they met you. I've enough reasons for them doing that, don't need another one cheers :P

yeah a lot of Hollywood actors are on the short side, a friend of mine who is about 5 9" met Sly Stallone and he said he towered over him, he will never look at his 80s action moves the same again

Tom cruise is a big fan of lord of the rings books and he wanted a part as one of the hobbits in the movies but unfortunately he was just too small

I once read a good interview with Joe Eszterhas on the subject but I can't find it now

Honestly never seen a man who is small being challenged to get a good looking woman. I'm a man who's 5,7 or 5,8 I dunno can't remember and life is fine. Just keep yourself in some decent shape and put effort into your appearance. Ok sure you may not be turning all of the heads in a room but realistically coupled with a decent personality and a sense of humour you're flying then. I never think about my height why would I? I can't change it and if anyone was to highlight it in an offensive manner I'd just laugh. Juvenile idiots go on about stuff like that.

There was a girl I used to see many a year ago who was a tall 'un, close to 6 foot I'd say. Her mother was absolutely delighted that she was seeing a guy (me) that was taller than her. I didn't understand why it was a big deal.

He is saying that if the woman had the same personality, same interests etc...he still wouldn't date her if she had bad teeth.
