I'm in my early 30s. I would be the worst kind of hipster. I mean guys in their early 20s with skinny jeans, stretched lobes and beards, and riding around on skateboards and scooters is fine. Everyone is still expressing their "edgy" self at that age and trying to attract other young people who care about fashion and crap like that.

But in your late 20s and 30s, it's just starting to border on pathetic. Nobody else your age cares how fashionable you are. You're like the guy in college who still has a schoolbag with "down with homework" and "#@!% the police" written on it in tippex.

Skating is for life, scooters are unforgiveable though

    thats not true at all.

i was out on saturday with "friends" and they are all in their early thirties. they were dressed in red/black/whatever coloured checkered shirts, skinny jeans (when the skinniest one of the lot is about 18 stone), hitler youth haircuts with little cow-curl at the front, beards the size of bushes, pompous attitudes and acting like they're still 21.

it's absolutely pathetic. what's worse is that they are so blind to it too - even when i call them out on it, they just blank the whole idea that they might be spastics, and then carry on, in fact - get WORSE.

every time i see them - they have gotten worse than before. the cow-lick curls are a new addition....

one of them used to be a death-metal fan with the longest best hair for rocking out i've ever seen. he had the long hair all his life until saturday when i saw he had succumbed to hispter-dom and cut it all off and has been fashioning this cow-lick curl and the rest of the regalia like the rest of these idiots.

most of them are culchies - badly trying and failing to be some sort of "city folk"....

what's with the female ones being obsessed with the 1930s thru 1950s?

    weirdos!

    Skating is for life,

If posts had beards, I suspect this would be Jim Morrison Paris Era level.

I love craft beer and and listen to music a lot of people haven't heard of, but I abhor skinny jeans and am clean shaven.

    Only semi-hipster I guess.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

a real hipster today would be a clean shaven boot cut wearing heineken drinker?

Absolutely. They seem to associate having a scraggy beard with deluded ideas about how macho it is, and how it bestows on them additional ‘testicular fortitude’.

You grow a beard by not shaving. That isn’t exactly difficult. You could suggest that lathering up with a good shaving soap and badger hair brush, before getting an extremely close shave with a new double edge razor blade is way more ‘manly’ than some grotesque mash of ginger hair hanging off your chin and jaw.

I have to say that I'm in agreement. With Aongus of all people.

    Pigs have flown.

I said a lot of other people, not that nobody else has heard it. And anecdotally, from talking to people about it and rarely hearing other people talk about it.

Here's a mad idea - why don't you just let people dress as they want instead of 'calling them out on it'? I think hipsters look a bit silly but saying they're 'spastics' and 'idiots' is uncalled for.

Re women dressing in a 1930s fashion - I haven't seen any evidence of that around where I live but I'd be all for it.

Do women find all the hipster and beard stuff attractive because it really seems that they do??

    Be honest

Oh and to me it seems that hipsters have somehow taken things like tattoos, beards and beer which used to be edgy and manly stuff and turned into the gayest, annoying things ever.

And I'm not using gay in the homosexual sense there before somebody loses their mind

no, i can say what i want, the same way they can dress how they want.
i'm not trying to give orders and force them to dress in a different way. in fact, to the contrary i get a huge laugh out of them. (more so cos' they're d!cks than anything) and that by them dressing in this manner, it just re-enforces this belief in me that they are in fact d!ckheads!

they are in their thirties, they go out dressed up like teenagers and act like they're 21 and take yokes and drink gin. they're obviously messed up in the head...

anyway - my point still stands - I think they're twats. they should not be acting like that at their age.

Course you can, but do you really want to be someone who makes fun of what other people wear?

Lots of people take recreational drugs and drink gin. People have been seeking altered states of consciousness for thousands of years. Doesn't mean they're somehow 'messed up in the head'.

sorry, that was meant to read 31 (thirty one) not 21.
yeah, i did a hell of a lot of them when i was a kid - 21,22,23 up to about 25 which i thought was LATE to snap into a kind of "adult" way of thinking and stopped all the (what i consider to be) sh!te!

it's only worse these lot are getting ... and i blame hipster-isms for it in a way.

yeah tastyt - GIN has been ruined.
they ruined whiskey on me about 2 years ago too, so i decided to take the hip hop approach - that sh!t hasnt been "cool" since the 80s, so bam... just do that - you get to wear gold sh!t then!

Just reading a lot of the threads I get the impression that I should grow a beard, buy one of those smurf woolly hats (no matter what the weather) and get a pair of skinny jeans...

You're clearly reading the wrong threads then. Oh and btw, no grown man should be able to fit into bitch skinny jeans.

So you used to make fun of people based on how they dressed until you were 25 and now you've stopped doing that? Why did you 'call them out on it' then?

Also, define 'worse' please. As I mentioned earlier, people have been using recreational drugs and alcohol for thousands of years while wearing all kinds of clothes. There's nothing inherently wrong with that.
You're clearly reading the wrong threads then. Oh and btw, no grown man should be able to fit into bitch skinny jeans.

I couldn't fit in skinny jeans nor would I want to. Just not my cup of tea. I sure as shít wouldn't come out with a silly generalisation like that though. Lots of grown men do wear skinny jeans. No one's forcing you to wear them.

The material is usually stretchy, anyone can fit into them if they buy them in their size.
