Thread is a thinly disguised boast that Laois were in an All-Ireland quarter-final.

This is not Seán, but he does have an earring.

I want nothing from him. Lol.

Imagine you actually really love or care for someone, would you not want to reunite them with their parent and be able to provide answers to the essential questions that will inevitably come down the line ?

Personally if I was in that situation I would extremely guilty that my actions had denied my child even the chance of knowing his father. I'd hate to be responsible for leaving him wondering forever who is dad might be, I'd want to find out as much as I could for my imaginary child, I'd feel I'd owe him that essential piece of the jigsaw puzzle of his identity.
When she says she doesn't want more than knowing the truth I can fully believe that.

I understand the woman probably genuinely has an interest that her child would at least know his father in some way, however should she ever discover the father, there is no way in hell she will not pursue him for back-dated child support.

I have a horrible feeling all parties are going to be ridiculed on this thread though.

I joined Boards in 2008 when my friend told me about a thread discussing a very similar situation at the time. It's here somewhere (search function not working from me) but the article kfallon linked to gives a flavour of how that went:
Users were torn between supporting the woman's search for the baby's father, and outrage that she was brazen enough to air her dirty laundry on the national radio. One popular Irish site received almost 400 comments about Roisin's antics.

One poster wrote: “If a woman is engaging in such activity, she should be more careful in terms of protection, or in terms of knowing a certain amount about the man, for her own safety.”

However, another argued: “Just reading some of the replies here, and it's really shocking. A paedophile might not have been slated as much as she has been here.”

Misery factor is fairly low on that, so Joe would have little interest.

What questions could someone possibly have for someone who was an ONS twelve years earlier though? And what if it turned out their biological father was, well, a bit of a cnut who would make their life miserable?

It's not nearly as simple as you're making out, which is why it's a good thing this particular child doesn't exist and this is just a publicity stunt. Ryan Tubridy knows well to play along by now, does his listenership figures no harm either.

Who gets the higher ratings I wonder... If I was looking for someone I would factor this in .... Mind you she's not looking for anyone in an old folks home

    I'm not psychic. I'm realistic.

Unless you're psychic or know the woman and the family personally, you have absolutely no idea what she's do, if anything. You're assuming, based on nothing.

These threads always go the same way, with the same assumptions being made.

I'm sure that guy will be contacting her immediately- I mean, what guy wouldnt want to find out they have an unknown eleven year old kid, whose mother is likely to pursue you for back-dated child support?:D

Legally I don't think that is even possible

If she wanted to know who it was, then why write an anonymous letter?
Give your name at least. It might help.

    Reeks of a publicity stunt.

Since Tubs has read it out, she'll probably be in touch with 2FM. And, to be fair, it worked before!

The same questions that have plagued adopted people and children who've grown up without their parents. A majority of people just want to know who their parents are, even as adults. Just because the answers aren't forthcoming or available doesn't mean the questions don't remain.

Lots of mothers and fathers are dreadful people but a lot of people still rather know them, even just know their identity. Given that it's the mum rather than the child searching she has the chance to ascertain the mans character and whether it's wise to expose the child to him. If it's not she can walk away and provide the child with a name at least when they're 18 or over and are capable of handling the situation.

It could well be a publicity stunt I agree, but the general points remain the same none the less.

And what happens when the child goes to school tomorrow and gets ripped apart for it?

    Terrible idea.

I'd say there is fcuk all chance of the father being found with a photo of the woman being shown.

Coppers should use all that cloakroom money to buy condoms and hand them out to people leaving

You're not one of the von Peckesheims from Annascaul by any chance?
