I imagine she's doing it for her child, who should know his dad even if for no other reason than to take a family medical history, and because there's a man out there with a son, and he should know, even if he wants no part of the childs life. All very sensible and worthwhile and decent.

I have a horrible feeling all parties are going to be ridiculed on this thread though.

And what happens when the child goes to school tomorrow and gets ripped apart for it?

    Terrible idea.

Back when I was in college, I knew a girl in a similar situation, she had a kid from a one nighter.
A few years later some guy approached her in a bar and was all like 'hey! remember me, we banged a few years back!'
And that is how the guy found out he had a child. I lost contact with the girl over the years, but when we last spoke, they were actually working it out, trying out the whole relationship thing with a view to eventually telling the child.

I really do hope things worked out for them.

That woman is delighted with her son, and describes him as 'Brilliant'.

He's got a mum and stepdad who love him and a stable family life. What part of that do you have a particular problem with?

yes cos she despite describing her son as "brilliant" I'm sure she has regrets...
regrets can only solved by abortion

Wouldn't it be lovely if it all worked out. I know it's not the same but my cousin adopted a little boy about 15 years ago and he really wants to meet his birth mother just to find out why she gave him up. It must be awful not to know your birth parents.

I suppose when it's your kid and they want to know where they come from you will try anything. It could be the best thing for the dad as well. He might welcome the chance to get to know his son.

I think she's opening a can of worms. She says that her son is happy, she's happy and she has a wonderful partner who sounds like he's a great dad to her son. Why stir it all up if things are that good?

The child has a right to know who his father is, the father has a right to know he has a son. What they do with the information is up to them.

At the very least, the son would benefit from a full family medical history.

Interesting story involving copperface jacks. One night stand 11/12 yrs later woman looks for father of her kid

    http://m.independent.ie/life/irish-woman-launches-search-to-find-the-father-of-her-son-12-years-after-a-night-in-copper-face-jacks-31357640.html

    coincidence?

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/oireachtas/taoiseach-defends-cut-to-lone-parent-allowance-1.2260617

"With the changes, parents of children aged seven and older will no longer be entitled to the one-parent family payment, from July 2nd."

    I think not! :pac:

as she states she has a partner I doubt she was getting that payment anyway.

She's not a lone parent, the child has a step father.

I think it's a child, old enough now to understand his step dad is not his biological father and wanting to meet him which is totally understandable.

If the kid finds out about the letter being read out on Tubridy:
"Now everyone will know I was the result of a one night stand you had with a man you met in Coppers! Armagh, how could you?"

He may not use the pun.

First class at having no class. That sounds about right. Every so often a 'story' like this manages 'somehow' to filter it's way into the media. Didn't they have someone else posting on craigslist last year looking for the father of her child?

Aye these stories surrounding Coppers surface pretty often alright. Makes you wonder.

Doesn't really make me wonder at all. Of course people have sex in nightclubs up and down the country, but CFJ seems to have turned this fact to their advantage for marketing purposes as if they're the only club it happens in and CFJ's is the place to go for randy spud munchers up for the night out.

It's bad enough that she got herself knocked up after an anonymous one night stand in Coppers without bringing it up 11 years later and shaming the poor child.

If she was so concerned about finding her baby daddy she could have done it years ago while he was still a baby and wasn't of school going age. I'm sure his mates are gonna give him hell and it will be embarrassing.

If she is in a stable relationship and kid has a stepdad why rock the boat. Fair enough to check medical history etc but, again, she could have done this years ago.

Story smacks of attention whoring TBH, she obviously has no shame sharing this story on national radio. Hope she finds him anyway, for the child's sake.

So going public and letting her son know that his father is some random guy she had a drunken one night stand with and whose name she doesn't even really know helps her son how? I seriously doubt the guy will come forward and if the son has no medical problems how on earth would a full medical history benefit him? I think you're clutching at straws a bit there. The child is happy and she should have left it at that until her son is 18 and could decide if he wanted to try and trace his father.

That's even assuming the child actually exists, and that the story isn't completely made up, and the woman on the Ryan Tubridy show isn't just a paid actor. CFJ's know this crap goes viral handy enough as we all get a laugh out of the "poor sod who's lumped with a child he didn't know existed".

It's the oldest one in the book that appeals to all sorts of people on a number of different levels.

Wouldn't surprise me. Tubs did a similar story a few years ago with a woman who was supposedly pregnant after a ONS from Coppers. The details of the bloke were vague enough that it could be anyone, a lot like this. AH went mad for that story too.

She's going to have to tell her son is the result of a ons at some point. If he wants to know who his dad is and she's trying to help him find out, I don't see what the problem is.

Lots of people have family medical issues they should be aware of. Hard to find an argument against that. Just because he's not ill or aware of any possible issues now doesn't mean he isn't entitled to know.

You don't know the families reasons for looking for the dad, but since she's his mother and knows her brilliant son the best, we can assume she's acting in his best interests and it's not up to us to second guess their actions.

Unless, as One Eyed Jack says, it's all a publicity stunt. We shall never know, in all likelihood.

Alot of worried men around the country right now

Mother launches search for father of her son conceived after night in famous club
An Irish woman who fell pregnant after meeting a man in Copper Face Jacks more than twelve years ago is seeking the help of the nation to reconnect with the father of her eleven-year-old son.

The woman wrote an anonymous letter which was read out on 2fm’s Tubridy Show this morning, in which she shared details of her passionate night born from a match made in the Dublin night club.

“Myself and my friends went out on the Friday night and I met someone in Coppers.

“We got separated from our friends and went to what I think was the Bewley’s Hotel in Ballsbridge,” the woman wrote.

The woman, who now has a “brilliant” eleven-year-old son, revealed that she never spoke to the man after their night spent in the hotel, but believes he was from Armagh, is called Sean and once wore an earring.

“I left the next morning for the match. I didn’t think anything of it. Yes, we had a one night stand and as a result I have a wonderful son,” she wrote.

“We weren’t too drunk but this happened twelve years ago so I don’t have a great memory of everything.

“I think this guy’s name was Sean and he was from Armagh and he may have had an earring.

“I want nothing from him, he has his own life but I just wanted to let him know. We all do stupid things but I have no regrets,” she wrote.

The woman now has a partner but after wondering about her son’s dad for years she decided to seek the help of popular radio presenter Ryan Tubridy.

“My son is 11 and he has brilliant stepdad now and everything is great. That night woke me up in life and made me grow up. "Everyone does these kinds of things when they are young and this has been on my mind for years wondering what I could do to find this person without a second name. I thought I would give your show a try.”

Although Tubridy suggested the campaign might be a fruitless search, he asked any listeners with leads on the father’s whereabouts to get in touch on tubs@rte.ie.
